Doesn’t his EX DP go up and then down for another hit (kind of like EX Sumo Splash)?
I’m assuming his EX Grab will get invincibilty properties like Abel’s, but with the speed of Zangief’s.

What the hell do we gotta do to ban this troll?
i am so ready to play some hot pink t hawk action on xbox live and listen to all the wannabe thugs cry. to godly.
I disagree, i think ppl all say this but no one ever takes gief to high level in the states. Dumbed down in what sense? To me its always a struggle to get in and play solid footsies, then you have to read your opponent on wake up with all the escape options IV has. In old games he didn’t have as many tools so his style was way more simple, in both games when you get a knockdown it can be over, but in IV there are more things you can do to escape.
that is funny, im interested in dee jay and dudley, u know coz of dee jay’s coolness and no doubt his combobility, and let’s not forget dudley’s links. i main balrog, but at the same time akuma, bison and ryu, i still uderstand what you mean, about the black characters.
It’s full ultra, plus Juri’s probably gonna take Sim range damage.
Two hits going upward but when coming down it doesn’t link. It just puts him in a safe distance away for follow ups.
It better be safe on block cause it would suck to land, and they can (insert any move here) afterwards.
EX Storm Hammer looks to have Gief’s properties but Abel’s speed. (I saw the difference, Gief’s is immediately.)
The Dive part after the EX Hawk uppercut costs an extra EX bar, you might interpret this in any way you like. I for one think that you are free to do whatever you like in the air when the move is over, and that dude in the Ono interview just happened to do EX hawk Dive twice.
That super was called Canyon Splitter. That “short hop j.HP” at the beginning was also a stand-alone special move called Condor Spire unique to Alpha 3 IIRC. If he has it in SSF4, he’s guaranteed high tier; it’s a fast, long range overhead that hops over lows and can be canceled into with cr. short :looney:. He can’t be thrown out of its start up either because he’s airborne. It’d be too broken; there’s a reason Zangief doesn’t have a grounded high-low mix up game. Canyon Splitter was a terrible reversal because the Condor Spire at the beginning didn’t hit right away, and the invincibility was bad. If he still has it, and you can juggle into most of its hits off a FADC DP like Sagat, then he’s set.
He won’t have Condor Spire though, it looks like they borrowed mostly from his ST incarnation, with a few new tricks. He does have his st.jab from SFA3 though, I saw it in the Ono video, so maybe there’s still hope .
Video of T-Hawk’s other ultra.

lol
oh man, i thought it was real
I always wanted to try out t-hawk on ST when i play on ggpo but he’s so simple… he only has 2 moves… (the air and ground dive counts as 1 move for me) so i just didn’t find out tools for him.
With FA, Ultra and Super t-hawk will be a beast =) specialy if he has Gief’s Vitality
Dumbed down in reaction and execution. Gief footsies are pretty fuckin dumb as well. Standing strong and that option select short kick > ex green hand make me rage. When your normals do as much as gief’s do and have that much priority the footsie game isn’t too rough; especially when you factor in his 1200 stamina. Gief is also the best example of why ultras are a terrible addition to the series.
Gief gets in three ways. Reaction EX hand (respectable), walk forward block, or randomizing jump ins to close distance (empty short jump, j.mk, j.fierce etc). Rotate the following at any level play once in, throw timing out the window: SPD, block, c.jabs, and lariat. Or mashing normals and option selects at sweep distance. ‘footsies’
I also think gief sits at fourth in sf4. Right under ryu/akuma.
Lariat and SPD are the two best specials in sf4 in my opinion. His normals are godlike, and he has the best jumping normals in my opinion. I think his jumping normals are better than rog’s.
Andry, you have to understand… I really, really, hate gief in this game. As a guile player it only takes a couple wrong guesses after reacting to everything perfectly for 90 seconds to lose the match. I do have respect for people like crizzle and ultra david who play a lot on reaction, but I firmly believe gief is 90% mashing and guessing in sf4. I guess that’s sf4 in general though
Ya I can see that, i guess I look at SFIV on a whole as dumbed down,so Gief was just a normal figure. He definitely needs to be tweaked but like so many characters there is a fine line from viable to horrible, especially with grapplers.
this is sooooo true.
im either expecting hawk to be total beast (overbeasty), or the coolest garbage tier in the game.
i wonder if j.jab is gunna have beastly priority
wow his FA is beastly range!!!
The thing that I never understood about T-Hawk is how he is to be differentiated from Zangief, when they have the same goal in mind.
They both have lots of HP, walk slowly, and want that 360 grab/super.
We know that one of his ultras is a grab, so his dives, super, second ultra, dash, backdash, focus attack, normals, and stun rating will separate him from Zangief. But by how much?
What about that hopping overhead from Alpha 3 Upper?
I think that one of his ultras needs to be comboable off of DP + FADC. That would make him very VERY different as a grappler and would round out his gameplay. It would have to do crap damage, though, probably no more than 400 after scaling.
Contrary to many people, I like T.Hawk’s character design a lot. So much so that I will definitely give him a trial as a main once SSF4 comes out.
The only problem is, I cant do the 360 motions with the fighting pad consistently. If the input required for the 360 motion was given a lot more leniency, it could help with variation during the online fights rather than only meeting Ryus, Akumas and Kens with the occasional Geif.
Condor dive better focus break.
