I’ve been playing mostly with U2 because I like the idea of having my opponent both afraid of staying on the ground and jumping. the hit box on U2 can be inconsistent but on the whole i’ve had a high percentage of success with it and the animation is just too dope.
ultra 2 will be good against chun now that i think about it. she was neutral jumping me alot and making me whiff ex dp or stuff regular dp. if my ex dp whiffed, shed get a free cr.rh. a lot of neutral jumping from shotos and chun to bait whiffed 360s now that i think about it.
Currently, there’s a lot of crappy T.Hawk’s online, I’ve been beasting them as Dan for the past 2 days. >_>
Make what you will, from that.
So do you guys think T Hawk is good? So far I like his normals, but… that’s pretty much it. Gief has great buttons too. Hawk’s up close game seems unambiguously worse than Gief’s, and I don’t know that he has an easier time getting in than Gief does. So far I’m not really seeing a reason to switch.
I don’t think he’ll end up being all that great. When I play against people I feel like I get away with way more stuff than I should and once people get their characters down things will not shake out in t. hawk’s favor. His move properties feel so limited and after seeing people being able to punish his specials like dive on reaction I think from here out getting in is going to get much harder and his mix up game doesn’t seem as good as zangief’s. but I love slamming people’s faces into the ground too much to give up on t. hawk.
His normals seem better at stuffing Sagat and dive is also very useful in that match up. Other wise I’m sticking with Gief.
LOL this topic is so back and forth; I don’t know what to think!
Yeah you got different players who are playing against different skilled players who are like “T.Hawk rocks don’t sleep on him” then you have players who are playing against players who actually know somethings about there character and the game and there like “Not looking good for T.Hawk…”
imo I think I’m going with the “Not looking good for T.Hawk” because I see him getting beat by a lot of characters after they understand him.
Like me when I started playing SF4 I would lose to a lot of Gief’s but once I started understand how to play against him now I rarely lose to an online gief unless I feel like picking a character without a projectile.
It seems like Hawk will have a harder time against projectiles because one of the most commons ways to avoid them and get in seems to be dive which can be punished on block and ultra on reaction but the option to use it anytime jumping forward or neutral jumping in the air can be a good bait.
I mean we’re just have to see. I was looking at HDR T.Hawk and it seems he’s kinda like this T.Hawk only with a new move and a Focus attack and he was pretty low in tier due to having a hard time getting in (and I think his dive was safe on block)
anyways I’m with the T.Hawk isn’t looking so good crowd but he’ll be my main come release none the less.
Hawk having a harder time against projectiles than gief is straight up wrong. Have you seen st.rh, st.fp cr.rh, st.strong and ex condor spire lately?
Ive been playing against people who are playing their main from sf4 and theyre all saying t.hawk is going to be a beast. I dont see how his mixup game could be worse than giefs. If anything its just as good. ex spire is so much more safe than ex hand.
Dont get me wrong Im gettin away with some stuff that can be punished sometimes but its not why I’m winning. He is going to have a hard time obviously and not be an auto win button. He never was the type of character and thinking thatd change in super is just silly. If you have patience youre going to be winning matches with t.hawk. You can trade A LOT with t.hawk. Its almost always in your favor.
I was having a lot of success with focus dash forward 360. Especially against moves like chuns st.rh. His dash is better than giefs for sure.
well meh I’m theory fighting and I don’t really know what kind of players your playing against neither do I know much about T.Hawk outside from the mixed messages ppl keep sending in his forum.
Its only 2days away so I’ll see for myself and its good to know he’s not an auto win button.
Edit:
I have a question. Can you pick any stage to train on like in the old SF games? I know in SF4 you were only bound to the Training stage
offtopic question I know but I’d really appreciate if anyone could reply to this
After playing T.Hawk for 2 days now i can say some first things.
I think he will be a solid mid character at the tier list.
Zangief (epsecially now with the same stamina 1100) sadly will be again superior because of Lariat.
T.Hawk’s Tomahawk has lost his invurnable frames from Turbo and the hitbox it’s pretty messed up.Trades is very common with this move.
Condor Dive can punished with everything on block and it hasn;t the same reach as Turbo’s.So if you trade sometimes with hadoukens don’t be frustrated.
Condor Spire is a very very very good move. But it hasn’t a great range.
Ex is pretty handy because it has the same anti projectiles properties like Giefs Banishing Flat. But like we all know it’s very safe.the only thing is to understand this moves range because its very tricky especially at the beggining.
Fortunatelly T.Hawk posses Godlike pokes.Watch out his low Hard kick because can be focused while its pretty safe and hits afar. His jumping jabs especially Hard Punch and Hard Kick are very usefull and they have priorities.Standing pokes like Hard Punch,Hard Kick,Medium Punch and LIGHT PUNCH(=Godlike poke because it has a lot of range for a small light punch) are great tools.
His combos are very easy.It takes me only 5 minutes to get done all of them and i was drinking water during them lol
The most important its his Command throw.
Even if it hasn’t posses the same tick-> command throw as Turbo’s and there is no option select for Typhoon its very damaging (the same with Gief’s) but it has a lot of range to catch the opponent.
His Ultra 1 is very good because it has very good grab range.
And his U2 (even it is beautifull) it’s a disaster and i think it’s doomed.
So far these.
Watch at Condor Dive section a video that i made with Condor Dive’s Cross Up mix ups.
It’s interesting and usefull.
only thing im concerned about hawk is what low combos does he have that will scare the opponent from pressin up during blockstrings? since gief has his c lk into whatever combos…
what exactly is a feasible hawk low attack combo?
I did’t try out these ^^ because i haven’t a stick or a decent pad and i’ve played with Xbox 360 pad (first time in my life lol)
i don’t know how people can play with 360 pads fighting games.lol
anyway i pressume that he can do lp punches to Tomahawk buster.Or a mix up with lp punches ti link them with Mp punch (which by the way its a trial for T.Hawk) or a condor Spire after a push back.
those are combos yes, but what i mean is a combo that hits low which would result in a hit confirm if the opponent is continually holding up to escape tick setups
for example gief can c jab 1x then go into c lk to see if it connects if the opponent is scared he will spd, in which case the c lk will connect and the follow up combo would be another c lk into ex gh and so on
that was what i was referring to
also i am one of those xbox 360 controller users and its just about comfort-ability, i have used a stick and i prefer a controller over em
i know crazy huh?
tries to understand all of this SF4 talk mumble jumbo
uhh about that training mode question. Can you pick any stage to train on?
Yeah i think T.Hawk can do that with Light punch, Light kick. Also he has :df:+:lp:.It’s a standing move but i think can hold a bit the opponent for a mix up game.
I don’t know for sure about the last move.
But most of Turbo’s setups are still in.
I bow to you:wgrin:
good to know
Tick throw with close MP is godly. Hawk is definitely awesome in the tick throw department. If they hold up, just jump with them and j.RH to bring them back to earth. Or wait and EX Tomahawk EX Dive. Personally I like to TK Dive so they waste their air move trying to hit me and 360 them as I land.
Try not to engage air to air. j.lp isn’t the same monster as it was in ST.
How’s close MK in the tick throw department? If it’s blocked, can you connect any 360, or are you pushed too far back? Close MK was an amazing tick in ST and HD, just wondering if it’s still as good.
I don’t think j.lp should be written off just yet. it obviously doesn’t have its godlike hitbox from ST but I was getting some interesting results with j.lp air to air to hawkdive. sometimes i’d be able to land close enough to the opponent that i could mix them up. I’m not sure if it’s a true mix up opportunity or they are just playing dumb but it could be useful.
