I set my mix ups off of empty jump HP DP after a LP SPD to beat reversals and you don’t need to whiff a normal during the jump.If the HP DP hits you can dash forward and do an EX DP and it will beat wake up reversals like ryu’s LP and HP DP.
I think whiffing the normal makes it more effective against 5+ frame reversals. For example, it will trade with reversal tiger uppercut.
Seems I can’t edit my last post. Oh well:
Interesting, when I tried whiffing normal jump moves an heavy shoulder, I always trade with reversal TU. But when I whiff Splash during my jump, I always win. I guess that means it has more recovery than normal jump moves, maing my invincibility happen later than before, allowing me to beat tigher uppercut. I’ll need to do some more testing with this added knowledge.
yeah you’re right whiffing does make it more effective against 4+ frame reversals.
You can beat Seth’s HP DP with LP SPD, neutral jump, whiff splash, HP DP. If you do a forward jump instead of neutral jump, you’ll trade. The nice thing is that you’re still within LP SPD/Super (I guess U1 too?) range after the neutral jump.
Doing LP SPD, jump forward, whiff normal (not splash), HP SPD beats all of Ryu’s non-EX DPs. You can beat Ken’s MP DP by doing splash instead (I think that makes you susceptible to 3-frame moves though).
You can also beat Ryu’s U2 by whiffing a HP DP after LP SPD, then doing another one.
Your ryu set up also works on akuma and with the follow up dp set up I mentioned before with meter you can beat all of ryu’s non- EX DPs again if they try to do it. It also eliminates their dash back and jump option.
Sweet, I’ll keep it in mind. I’d make a thread about this, exploring your options against every character, but I’ll wait until USFIV comes out before I do something like that.
Cool, I’ll lend a hand when USF4 comes out. I almost forgot, sooner or later your opponent is gonna do a EX DP and since the follow up set up doesn’t beat EX DP I tend do a “Safe SPD”.
If you want to bait a reversal, try doing empty jump, then s.LP as you land. You’re at something like -2 afterwards, making it look like they can definitely punish it when they in fact cannot. If they try to block, you can SPD them instead I guess.
I found a safe jump off of MP SPD which is 3 frame safe. After MP SPD whiff ST.MK,then do a jumping forward HK.
3-frame safe jump? How’s that even possible? >.<
EDIT: Oh, range based, nice. That means they probably won’t be able to FADC either.
Sadly shotos and others can FADC out. You can also os Hk to punish back dash
Couldn’t you backdash after landing to prevent them from FADCing?
Yeah, for some shotos like akuma if you backdash after landing all of his DPs whiff, however for ken his HP DP covers a ton of distance and catches your backdash. If this set up is done mid-screen Ryu and other shotos DP’s can’t be FADC out of , but if the set up is done at certain distances closer to the corner you allow them to FADC out.
4 frame safe jump after super.
Looks similar to the oneI found after forward throw. You have to wait a few frames before jumping, right?
Btw, after super, you can jump forward, whiff splash, and then do U2 when you land to catch various reversals like Ryu’s HP DP.
You can also empty jump into HP DP after super against 5-frame reversals.
for the safe jump after super you gotta walk forward a few frames before jumping. I like that U2 bait set up, i’m gonna steal that.
U2 is really picky with what it will work on though, so I suggest trying it on various reversals. Doesn’t work on Ken MP DP for example.
Neat way to increase the damage you get from a super on some characters. A little risky, though.
Hi guys. Long time T. Hawk main. I come seeking knowledge. In short, I have no idea how to option select. I’ve seen videos that show T. Hawk OS his U2 and I tried it in the Proom to no effect. I also have no idea how to properly plink, but I’ll save that for another thread. I love T. Hawk, I love a lot of his setups and I feel I’m more than halfway decent with him… I’m ready to take it to the next level.
