Please also add something regarding SPD reversals. I tend to “buffer” SPDs during blockstun and I am doing it in a similar way than crouch tech. (Rhythm) People hate me for doing that, they want me to stop it. I KNOW even high-level players DO buffer (people always say “mash”) reversals during blockstun, though.
How am I supposed to do it, maybe I should just watch out for difficult links? I know I can be blown up for overdoing it by neutral jumping. I guess it can become a bad habit.
Tick throws are used when your opponents keep blocking, expecting you to continue your blockstring or combo and then SPD them in the middle of a blockstring or combo. It works like a regular tick throw with the universal grab. If your opponents try to jump or reversal your SPD, next time do not try to SPD and do blockstrings or combos often until they respect them. Always try to switch them up to test your opponent, mainly in the first round.
after lp spd you can use that trick where you body splash over them and make them go the wrong way if they reversal dp; just make sure that you nudge a little bit forward when you do the whiff jab setup. I don’t know why but i find the nudging helps account for her 1 frame slower wake up. Keep in mind too that her DP comes out in 5 frames so it can be safe jumped.
Shoulder works as a baiting tool…nice. I didn’t know you could “safe jump” DPs with it. Is it generally safe if you whiff it and land right before your opponent? I had it against Ryu and I think Ken today.
If you don’t know what I’m talking about I’ll upload the situation, got the replay.
Plus he doesnt have a cross up LK anymore…I tried splash with without…no luck. Best I could do was splash > cr. lp , st lp,. lp SRK and it whiffed sometimes.
I know some combos that do up to 6 hits. Maybe there are combos that have numbers higher then that but they haven’t been discovered yet.
Some 6 - hit combos in SSF4 AE Ver. 2012 -
On Juri: Crossup Splash -> MP -> MK -> EX Tomahawk -> EX Condor Dive
On Dudley: FA Crumple -> Forward Dash -> MP -> MK -> EX Tomahawk -> EX Condor Dive
I’m gonna start testing with Hawk again in training mode to see if I can find some new stuff. Still haven’t uploaded that Vid showcasing the MP Tomahawk -> EX Tomahawk -> EX Condor Dive as a possible combo without the corner yet o_O
I really like this crossup combo, it makes Hawk’s wakeup even nastier, it’s a shame it doesn’t work in IV. I am pretty sure it is j.lk that crosses up in ST, so you just go into lps to tick or combo into dp and it is confusing to block correctly, it’s nice.
Sorry - correction. J. LK will cross up on Hakan, but it’s like…completely position dependent and not really consistent. TRy it, you’ll do it like 1/5 times.
J.LK does crossup in ST. As Lvangundy said, the J.LK can crossup on Hakan in SSF4, but I’ve also found that Hawk’s J.LP can also crossup on Hakan too. It is much harder to crossup with J.LP, however both J.LK/J.LP are impossible to use consistently. The spacing requirement is as precise as it gets. Even Daigo himself wouldn’t be able to use crossup with J.LP/J.LK consistently at all o_O
Speaking of Hakan, he must have one of the most weirdest, if not the WEIRDEST hitboxes in the whole game. Did you guys know that with Hakan, that some combos are possible on him during a certain part of his fighting stance animation while the same combos aren’t possible during other animations? One example I can give is with one of Gen’s combos. If Gen does a Close S.Fierce -> HK Gekiro (Floating Bicycle Kick DP) on Hakan when he breathes in during his fighting stance animation, it’ll work. However, if Gen does this combo on Hakan when he exhales, the HK Gekiro will completely whiff. Isn’t that weird?
I have a few questions:
Which chars cannot duck under St.HK other than Hawk,Gief, Seth,Sagat,Abel,Gouken? This is pretty important as it turns the move from being near useless, to a very scary footsie tool which the opponent must respect.
Which char other than Balrog does cl LP clMP LP Tomahawk does not work on? I tested it on Sakura and it works, I assume it’s universal?
Edit: I tested a bit with Balrog and the optimal BNBs are clLP clLP LP tomahawk, cl LP clMK xx EX spire, for Punishes clMK xx MP DP, raw clMP xx HP DP only works as a deep punish and you cant link 2 ClMPs. I’m wondering if there are more character specific hurtboxes where you cannot do the clLP clMP bnb.
I found out in the corner off the same jump arc, you can do jLP/jLK which will not crossup, or splash which will, giving him the sick ambiguous shoto mixup 50/50 which is worth incorporating, it’s a 50/50 and there is no way for the opponent to tell.JLP into dive in the corner will not crossup though.
Edit: the ambiguous jump in JLP/ Splash works vs larger chars like hakan and seth too midscreen.
I also think its worth incorpoating jump back jab into your game, its a very strong defensive tool and stuffs a lot of stuff.
