Did somebody say close strong is useless? What? I mis-read, maybe?
I intended to say that cl. MP has a “force stand up” property but it’s useless because any move that whiffed on a crouching opponent still whiffs even if they are in a standing state.
Ah, I see what you’re saying but that’s not always the case. There are instances where a link into jab Tomahawk will whiff on crouching characters, but the forced stand cancel causes Hawk’s knee to hit the character’s upper-body. Can not give specific cases since I haven’t done a jab -> strong xx TB on a crouching opponent in a long time, but I remember seeing it happen when I did. Also, you get the far strong links if you go that route (whiffs on crouching).
I hoped that Capcom put the forced standup in for a reason but I had never noticed it in actual gameplay. Something to experiment with.
I’m starting to love Medium Typhoon. I like it the most of all versions. People expect you to go for Light Typhoon.
When do you guys go for Medium Typhoon? I know about Light and Hard is for damage or in situations T. Hawk is cornered himself, but what are you using Medium Typhoon for? I rarely see it.
Also, I’m always catching myself building so much meter. I’m not using any EX moves until I really have to. I often find myself with a SUPER ready and again, people don’t expect that until it’s too late.
I never go for Medium Mexican Typhoon. I use Jab Mexican Typhoon so that it creates an easy crossover setup (Because the opponent is grounded near you) and Fierce Mexican Typhoon when I want to do big damage or get the lifelead by sacrificing distance. Medium Mexican Typhoon isn’t a bad move, but it doesn’t offer the kind of unique benefits that LP and HP Mexican Typhoons’ do.
Medium Typhoon = damage + positioning. You lose the cross-up, but gain 50 damage and can Spire back into the opponent’s face or safe jump. You can do the same with Fierce Typhoon, but you have to Condor Dive perfectly to get back in and you lose all high pressure.
Medium Typhoon is basically a combination of Jab (positioning close enough to keep up pressure) and Fierce (more damaging command grabs).
Medium spd is soo good because of the damage and the spacing. I use that more than heavy. I recommend only using heavy as a hard punish or if it would win you the round…

I might be crazy, but does anyone think they might have changed/increased the invincibility frames on spire startup? Specifically, lp and/or ex? I’ve noticed I’ve beaten things clean with those two that used to be trades at best… I suppose either invincibility or the hitbox. Or maybe I’m just nuts.
God, I play Hawk like a scrub and got exposed a lot today playing a Ryu and Sakura. Any suggestions on easy input for spire? Sometimes it seems like I get DP or SPD. Makes no sense but I am trying my best to nail it down.

I experienced something strange today. I was throwing out a st. HK and Fei Long tried to punish with Ultra 1. Guess what? St. HK traded with the first hit of his Ultra 1 and afterwards I was able to block the whole thing.
anyone have trouble os ex condor spire when i try a mk safe jump and os ex spire it comes out even if the mk hits I have no trouble os ex dp or sweep but I cant seem to get that one to os any info would be help full thx
Try using Lvangundy’s shortcut and do it a little bit faster.
What are tick throws good for? I still don’t use them, people neutral jump me a lot.
you gotta make em respect your normals once they are afraid tick throws work like a charm if they still know then hit them with cl mp, cl hk, or srk mp/hp. All will punish a neutral jump
