T. Hawks dp has focus crumple properties and two ht focus properties… It’s so weird. I see it happen in matchs but I’m too lazy to test it out.l. May be when I unpack from school I’ll take a look into it…
super late response. the thing with all of hawk’s dps is that none of them have juggle properties (EX being the only exception), this applies to fierce dp and both of its hit. this means one hit will never combo into the other hit if the first one lands. so honestly, there’s not much in the way of utilizing it effectively. its only going to strike two hits in the condition that the opponent is grounded for both hits and is not in hit stun. that’s why both hits only connect on opponents in block stun or in focus. Seth has a similar thing with his DP.
as for it connecting on opponents when in focus state, you just gotta be close and the opponent hit box needs to be big enough.
Anyone ever tried this in a match? I think someone mentioned this a while ago or maybe not, I really can’t remember, but the thing is: I’ve never seen anyone go for this trick in a real match.
It’s not even a bad one IMO. You whiff that MP DP and as you can see you barely make it to the other side, so maybe this can confuse your opponent and lead into good action?
I sparingly use this gimmick because the timing is really specific. You can use Condor Spire and its a better 50/50 IMO. In situation where MP DP works, I just fierce spire instead because even if you time it wrong, they are still in the mix up.
What are the differences between Tomahawk Buster in ST and AE?
I see Hawk players Tomahawk from a distance in ST all the time, they don’t seem to care too much about punishes. Why do ST players use Tomahawk Buster so aggressively?
Sometimes they will jump forward with LP or MP and go right into a Tomahawk Buster and it works surprisingly good. Is there some mechanic behind it that makes it possible or are these simple guesses?
I know Jab Tomahawk Buster has invincibility and it goes through projectiles in ST.
It’s a shame we can’t use Jab Buster to go through projectiles and I hate the fact we can’t use Buster like it is done in ST because it doesn’t travel far enough (instead way higher so you would probably fly over your enemy to get punished 80% of the time).
The Tomahawk Buster in ST was an extremely good reversal. The reason why many Hawk Players in ST seem to do " random " Tomahawks after jumping is because it’s actually safe on block against many characters if you space it from somewhat far away. All 3 Tomahawks have projectile invincibility during his startup frames and because of the angle Hawk travels during Tomahawk it’s really useful to go through fireballs and hitting the opponent in their hands as they throw it.
In SSF4, Hawk’s EX Tomahawk (his normal Tomahawks as well I believe) actually does have some projectile invincibility frames but the window of projectile invincibility frames is so short that unless the fireball can be " inside " you or going through you as you EX Tomahawk, you’ll end up eating it anyways. Below is an example of one of the rare occurences where EX Tomahawk can go through a fireball safely. It’s at 2:10 in this match with Sushiya against an Akuma Player.

Unlike in ST, Hawk’s 3 Tomahawks’ in SSF4 all serve a different purpose. His LP Tomahawk was meant to be used somewhat like his ST Tomahawk in that it has a good horizontal hitbox to stuff moves horizontally. His MP Tomahawk is the only Tomahawk that has throw invincibility. His Fierce Tomahawk is the only viable Anti-air Tomahawk because of it’s invincibility frames.
There’s hope for T.Hawk. Post on eventhubs mentions developers talking about the possibility of an update if there’s fan interest (which we already know exists)
Yes, I almost always pick it nowadays but I can’t even tell you how many times I have flown over opponents to get punished hard anymore. I stopped counting.
Question, I noticed that sometimes EX condor dive will be blocked and Thawk does not bounce away. I am trying to figure out as to why this happens because this drastically changes the punishment timing and would be a interesting gimmick.
Also, since its his normal recovery on these weird block animations, I also wonder if he is safe…anyone have any insight on any of these thoughts?
Has something to do with hitting below the waist, but I think technically it’s something to do with his hitbox being so low when the rebound animation is triggered instead of bouncing him backwards across the floor it just drops him. Juri has something similar with her dive.
After seeing it in slow motion it seems safe on block, if that’s the case getting this down would be viable vs characters with bad anti air options it seems.
