Hey there Fudd, didn’t know you were on stream. Good to know you were cheering for us, lol, the stream seemed to like watching our Old Characters team perform in the tourney.
We were on US speed 2. To be honest, it felt really good. It’s not as clean and perfect as arcade ST, but it comes damn close. It’s a FAR superior alternative to GGPO or HDR classic. The best part is, it’s highly accessible to anybody who wants to start an offline ST scene. All you need is a decent PC or laptop, 2 USB sticks, MAME and ST (which are free), and you’re ready to roll. I think it’s an acceptable alternative to investing a couple hundred dollars towards a super gun setup + board.
We had LCDs, they worked just fine. I just think it’s easier to transport and carry around, and it had no delay on it. Hauling around giant CRTs is difficult with limited space in the truck, and the sheer weight of it, plus DG and V’s arcade stands already take up plenty of room. CRTs would look better though.
You can turn on scan lines with certain versions of MAME. The issue was that it darkened the image on the stream, which made it difficult to watch. Plus the scan lines didn’t look quite right anyways, but maybe we just needed to find the right setting for it. There were like 10 different scan line settings, and we didn’t really have time, or bother to find one that looked nice.
Big shout-outs to the entire Super Arcade crew, especially Watson, Mondo, DG and V, Muffin Man, everybody who had a hand in making these streamed tourneys possible. It’s definitely a lot of work hauling around all of this equipment, and setting it up, so big thanks to everybody. Thanks for the stream monsters for tuning in. I hope you guys enjoyed watching everybody’s matches as well as the commentary on the stream.
And yes, I’m still salty from my loss with Power Duck/Paro-Da.
