Oh, shit. Forgot to mention, I wanted to challenge synco, or at least make the post last week, totally forgot. So I guess I have to play Afro first?

You can just play the first of the two that you run into at Super.

God damnit, I don’t know how to fight Guile. I only know that matchup when I play O.Guile. >:(

Hey guys apparently OtoChun is playing HDR CLassic mode on XBL! See this. It seems the Japanese are getting hard copies via the Capcom Digital collection see this this.

OtoChun777 “Recently is a Xbox360 “Street Fighter 2HD REMIX” primarily” Yes I’m gonna stalk him

Superarcade ST will be streamed tonight. Try to make it out. Everyone that isn’t local, catch us on the stream.

We’re playing on the MAME setup tonight so remember to bring your stick (if you got one) or you can use DGV’s setup.

The tournament should be started around 4pm. Be sure to join the stream at that time.

I don’t get off work till 4:30. I probably won’t make it for the tourny, but I’m coming out for sure. stoked.

I come now.

 Team Rush Hour
Wipe yourself off, man… you dead.

So what’s the verdict on MAME? Legit or don’t bother?

EDIT: God, I couldn’t resist.

Damn. Tonight was hella sick! Thanks so much to Dark Gaiden & Vintage, VOLTECH, TemjinAlpha, and Watts for contributing their time, effort, and gas to our scene! Days like this would not have been possible without the dedication of these guys! And thanks to everyone that came out and supported ST!

The best part about this tournament was that the matches were so close and intense that it didn’t feel like anyone underperformed. As such, team tournaments might become a staple of our biweeklies.

Also, if I’m able to make it to WNF regularly, we might bring back the 1v1 tournaments if there are 8 people or more. We could run Japan-style Single-Elim/Single-Match ($1 entry) tourneys just to stay fresh, if you guys are down. Let me know if you like that idea.

FUDD: MAME is pretty good actually. For me, at least, it only took a few matches to get used to everything, but I think the circumstances were quite a lot better than would be run by the smaller communities scattered throughout the US (0ms monitors, dedicated setup, etc.). Nothing replaces arcade cabinets, for me, but MAME is a solid platform for the close-to-arcade feel.

What speed did you guys go with and how did it compare with arcade board?

I believe we played on American ST speed 2. I’d say if you don’t have an ST cab this is the next best thing. We played with the scan-lines off only because the stream didn’t like it =\ but other than that it looked and played well.

The Pros
Accessible to just about anyone with a PC or laptop
Easy to setup*
Portable
Looks and feels very close the real thing
Can use most sticks I played using my stick with a Peawang Dual (Xbox 360\PS3) PCB and it was perfect. Drivers for some XBOX sticks may need to be installed (mine did not)
Our monitors where great*

The Cons
4:3 aspect ration on a wide screen make it look smaller that it really is
*Switching between different sticks is a little cumbersome but gets easier with a little practice
Some people thought there was a little input delay (I didn’t feel it myself) Could have been in their heads?
it’s not the real thing, just very close
*not all monitors are created equal

I’d say it’s not to be thought of as a full on replacement but rather an alternate.
So if your local scene doesn’t have access to a Cab you could still use this method to get some practice\offline games or even a throw tournament and you wouldn’t be too far off from the real thing. The Mame version of ST felt better than the current Alpha-burn emulator and even better than Classic mode on the X360 because it uses the original art and the speed felt closer to the original. (although this would be the next best thing if you didn’t have access to an ST Cab or a PC)

someone else will have to give you the specifics or the version of MAME we used and what hardware works best etc.

Hope this helps

Ah, that sounds good, thanks for the info. I’ll have to try that out for my own practice mode.

Why not VGA CRTs though? They’re so cheap and plentiful. Is the size just inconvenient?

For our setup yes but only because we had some awesome Japanese LCD monitors. CRT’s are probably the best way to go otherwise.

I think its good enough to use for tournies. Just make sure the computer or laptop you use isn’t all infected with viruses from all the porns you search. The game play should be close enough.
