Super Turbo Danisen Rank Battles @ Pink Gorilla Arcade / NEXT BATTLE: Dec 11th 6:30pm

There will also be 2 boards so probably 1 for casuals and 1 for ranked if need be

oic.

I can’t do anything right on american sticks. Not… that I’d expect japanese arcade marvel but I’d be hype.

Kieth, I wish I could play Fei Long/Ryu matches with you again. Always fun to just get back to basics which you do well in teaching.

this is tomorrow, don’t forget

i’ll probably be showing up around 3 for casuals, see you guys there!

Yo, what if I need to take a piss? WHERE CAN I DO IT?!?!

lol i think they usually direct people to the bookstore for that

also if anyone happens to be awake right now there’s a game-versus live stream going on: VERSUS-LIVE on USTREAM

Hurray. Something to watch as I crash dem castles.

I can bring my SSF2X: GMC board if people want another setup for casuals

For a ranbat we need a:

Kokujin: Loud slob
Hayao: Quiet individual who plays a turtle character
PinoAB7: Hippie/pothead who plays the bizarre mid-tier/low-tier character
Mago/Tokido: The person watching all the battles with a microphone who screeches “SHAWRYU SHAWRYU WAAAAH RESU GO JUSTEN!!!”

For a ranbat we need a:

Doughboy: Loud slob
Axel: Quiet individual who plays a turtle character
zass’ THawk: Hippie/pothead who plays the bizarre mid-tier/low-tier character
This could be YOU!: The person watching all the battles with a microphone who screeches “SHAWRYU SHAWRYU WAAAAH RESU GO JUSTEN!!!”

With a hope and a dream. Though my dream of MvC2 taking off has kinda died. So the dream might just be over. Regardless, good luck with this. When Airthrow returns, he can always slide into the loud slob role with little effort.

lol i think we have all the bases covered

i’m here with a couple people now, come get some casuals in!

rankings updated! Seattle ST Danisen Rank Battles @ Pink Gorilla Arcade

thanks to everyone for showing up, great games all around

i’ve set the next event for next saturday 6pm, does that sound good for everyone?

also if anyone wants their name to show up differently on the site let me know, i didn’t really know whether to put real names or srk names or what

This was cool and very interesting. Brutal, but fun. Shout outs to Axel F. Hardbody for running this and actually picking up his phone. Also, shouts outs to the man with the plan Bobby for the cabs and letting us do our thing.

ggs to everyone and special thanks to Axel for organizing and being so generous with his funds!

I agree with Pablo that it felt more brutal than a normal casuals session. The randomness seemed evil: I had to fight Zass’s Chun three times, then his Boxer three times, and the rest of my matches were Claw and Blanka :frowning: Although there was a Ryu, Honda, Zangief, and Ken entered, I don’t remember getting to play them at all?

I think the next session should be single character only. Entering three characters is only worth it if you’re at least broadly comparable in skill with your three characters versus other peoples three characters. Otherwise you are just fodder for them to rank up. And if you are only good with one character or you only want to focus on getting better with one character and so you only enter one character in the battle, then you’ll spend a lot of time sitting around waiting to play (you’ll play only a third as much as people who have entered three characters).

I think most people would prefer to play mostly against people slightly better in skill than themselves, and have the opportunity to occasionally really challenge themselves (such as vs. Zass’s Chun). It seems like within the ranking system we won’t get that, since we can only fight within our own rank. I will never get the chance to play against those peoples characters at fourth dan because I’ll never be fourth dan.

It’s great that we have this event, but I’m more skeptical of the format now vs. casuals, and it seems like casuals on two stations would be preferable to me personally.

Perhaps what we could do is have the battle every other week and alternate with casuals on two machines?

Big thanks to Axel for organizing this. Also shoutouts to hobos playing DDR.

I only played one game so I won’t comment on the format, but I will say that you can still come early to play casuals.

Just FYI, next Saturday Pink Gorilla will be hosting the shmupmeet, so most of the candy cabs will be converted to shooters that day. Super Turbo will probably be left in, but I don’t know if it’ll be possible to have two setups running.

Yeah what was up with that? I was thinking maybe they came in because it was so cold outside. Sad really. I was surprised at the facial tattoos - that’s pretty hardcore.

that’s kind of a bad attitude in a competitive game isn’t it? the point of the battles is to gauge your improvement, if you don’t think you’re ever going to improve then why do you even play the game in the first place? this event also isn’t supposed to be the only time we ever play each other, we were there playing casuals for hours before it started

the next battle will be far less brutal now that the 4th dan characters are out of the way of the first tier, ranking up won’t be anywhere near as hard as it was this week. this system really needs some time to get set up, after a couple more battles it should be working really nice. i’m definitely going to find a whiteboard to use next time so you can see exactly what’s happening in the ranks and to makes things run a lot smoother

single character battle could be a better idea though, if you only play one character you shouldn’t be punished with less matches. what do you guys think? i just want people to have fun playing while still having a competitive tone to the matches, i’m not completely set on this format or anything

thanks for the heads up on the shmup meet marus, maybe we could reschedule?

Thanks :-/

To get to fourth dan someone needs to be +12, so twelve consecutive wins or twelve wins net any losses. I know I’m getting better but I honestly don’t know when I’ll be able to achieve that against the level of competition we have.

But I get your point about this not being the only time when we can play matches; it would only be a concern if people only turned up at 6:00 for the battle and weren’t playing casuals which seems unlikely.

you would only need 9 consecutive wins to enter 4th dan, and once you move up a rank the points reset, so if you move up to 2nd dan and then lose a match you don’t drop back down to 1st, you just get -1 in 2nd dan. i know it was a little confusing without any way to display current scores, hopefully a whiteboard will fix that

Sooner than you think because we have more and more skilled players coming out! Don’t be so defeatist. <3
