I’ve changed and simplified the way that new players join, especially since it was a little confusing for most people. The major difference is that for new and relatively unknown players, the exhibition matches against Little Mac and me will be held 15 minutes before the Super Sundays event starts. Hopefully that lets us get them out of the way and keeps us free to do other stuff. It might also allow one or the other of us to be free and participate as players too while the other does the majority of running the event.

Okay, we’ve got the details figured for the 2v2 Double Trouble side event. You can review them in the first post, at the bottom, in the yellow “side events” section. The important points:
Format: Random brackets, best of 3 games between players, single elimination. We’re concerned about keeping this on the usual 90-minute schedule, especially since it’s our first side event, so we’d rather be conservative and have time left over.
Two fights at once? Twice as nice: At the start of each match, while you fight an opponent on the other team, your teammate is also fighting the other opponent on that team. This speeds things way up and makes for more action and less waiting.
Need to determine player #1 and player #2! Each team has a first player and a second player, and these have to be distinct and not change throughout the event. At some point, I need to know which person is which. It’s easiest if you guys just tell me now, but if you’re concerned that other teams might look at your decisions and try set up their own team order in a manner to try to counter yours, you can PM it to me in private or tell me later, right before the tourney starts. I don’t think anyone really cares about that thing, especially since brackets are random, but whatever.
Cheesy team names! Totally optional, but we encourage you guys to make a title name for your team! If you win and get your names recorded in the awards area, we’ll write your team name too. It has to be reasonably short and appropriate for all audiences. (Did I really need to say that?)

We’re capping the 2v2 side event to 8 teams (16 players) total. I don’t think we’d get more than that anyway, but just in case.
Just saying this again to clear up potential confusion… You don’t have to stick with 1 character throughout the tournament, so you don’t need to tell me which character you’re committing to or anything like that. A player who has lost a game has the option of switching characters for the next if he wants.
The uppermost bracket’s players have the advantage of getting to choose last for the opening games of each match. Say there’s 4 teams in the tourney:

2 /…
…___
3 …/
…_/
4 __/
Team 1’s players get to choose characters last for the opening games against their team 2 opponents. Team 3 gets to choose last against team 4. Then in the next round, the winner of 1 vs. 2 gets to choose last when they play the winner of 3 vs. 4. Upper is always better. You didn’t really have to know all this, because I’ll let you guys know who choose first and all that when I launch the games, but just in case anyone was wondering.
The starting bracket spots will be randomized. I’d prefer to do this myself, since I can do it much faster and with way less fuss. But if anyone would prefer that I do so in public at the start of the tourney (with a draw-straws sort of method), I’ll do that instead. I can give you my promise that not only would I never “rig the brackets” (if that’s even possible) but that I’m not rooting for any team in particular anyway.
Thanks for the tip. That will make it dead easy to make the draws for the brackets and for other types of side events. Now I don’t have to mess around with a die.
In the case that someone complains about draws being done in private and wants them public… There aren’t any public random-number generators, are there? Like ones where you can share a URL with the results or whatever? I looked briefly last night but couldn’t find any, and there’s no /random dice-roller on Kaillera. I still have ideas on how to do to randomizing in public with “straw-drawing” methods, but I’m hoping people trust me enough to not have us go through all that extra trouble.
Hey guys… Just throwing this out there - but would anyone be opposed to Raisin and I teaming up for the tourney? We’ll still have someone manning the desk at all times for the ranking battles, and we’d take the bottommost (least advantageous) bracket and randomize the rest.
If anyone objects, there are absolutely no hard feelings… we just want a piece of Double Trouble!! If nothing else, I encourage those who want to participate to seek out a teammate (*note: you DO NOT have to be ranked for this).

Just so you guys know, pre-registering gives you dibs on a spot and makes things easier for me, but you lock in your entry by being present at the start of the tourney. I won’t have forfeits in the first round because people signed up and blew it off, tying up tourney brackets and denying their opponents the chance to play a game in the process.
Our side events are part of Super Sundays package, so the same time as always: 9 Eastern / 6 Pacific. Same Bat-Time, same Bat-Channel.
