Super Sundays -- ST Ranking Battles

Heh, actually, I’m kinda disinclined to do that right now… The thing is that it would add an extra layer of record-keeping and time investment to keep track and post it all. I’m also mindful of anyone who had a bad night and might not particularly want to have their results posted publically for the entire world to see.

Would it be really important to you? And if there’s anyone else who would really like to see this, please speak up. I’ll reconsider if there’s a lot of demand.

Done.

I noticed that.

By the way, thanks, damdai, for helping us generate interest in the league, especially early on as we need to establish legitimacy.

I dont think you should post the precise match results. As you say it will take extra time, as well as clutter up the thread. In addition, it could turn off beginners who see their 0 for 10 losses posted up for public display.

nevermind pull me out of this

i just played with damdai on p2p that shit is garbage im all set

                                                =(

I was looking forward to some matches big Rush.

ive been playing/learning for awhile Ill be sure to give this a try

yeah but when i lose to shit like jump kicks cause i cant block cause of delay it makes me not want to play

Um, I just played damdai today and the connection was rather bad. Maybe his internet isn’t behaving well today?

I’m very picky when it comes to lag, and I find p2p kaillera is quite good when you stick to the same side of the country. There’s no way you should have any trouble blocking jump attacks…

Give it another shot, I suspect something unusual was going on.

with that being said ill try it this coming sunday
if its bad ill just drop after that

Well I haven’t gotten the chance to actually play it yet to see how smooth or laggy it is but it seems I can now join and host games on p2p. Perhaps I will give Super Sunday another shot this weekend.

Yeah, it should be really good if you have a fast, stable connection to your opponent… I regularly get games with delays under 50ms and I don’t really even think of lag at all.

I think once in a while, a problem might be due to a slow/unreliable routing hub between the 2 people and not either one of their ISP’s, but usually they fix those within a couple weeks.

That is awesomesauce, glad to hear it.

It works. I think I can finally quit posting in here about my problems.

Huge props to Damdai for helping me test this stuff out.

I will be sure to stay home this Sunday and get a ranking and get some matches in. I play 95% of the time Vega and Chun Li. I know some folks don’t like facing the good fast characters online when there is some lag. Sorry, that’s just who I use online or in person. See y’all then.

Hey, is there ever gonna be a team battle ranking?

Don’t apologize to anybody brother. You use who you use and THATS IT!!!
If you have the most fun with Claw and Chun than those are the exact characters
you should use ALL THE TIME. Especially in Super Sundays.

This is more about fun than points believe it or not. Ask Raisin. I’m sure he will agree with my statement.

I’d actually like to welcome you on with your first match(with much respect).
So if you agree,… Rasin,…set that that shit up please!!!

I’ve gone up against Little Macs Chun twice and we had hella fun. Our first match is up on this thread some where in kreck file format.

Welcome aboard again man and I hope people see your lead and join up on the fun.

Forget that, man. Pick whoever the heck you want, and don’t let anyone influence you. In this league, players only get to choose their own characters – they don’t get veto power over their opponents’ choices. :bgrin:

Well, we were thinking up several different ideas for side events that involved teams, some of which you might be able to pick your teammate(s) in, like a 2v2 side tournament. The details are still kind of up in the air, but I wouldn’t expect dedicated team rankings anytime soon.

Truer words have never been spoken. Super Sundays is about playing some great games and kickin’ it with the ST community. And let’s face it, we as a community do need each other. It’s not like there are a ton of players for this game, and if we don’t stick together, what we mostly end up with is a bunch of random battles against trash-talking Kaillera punks.

The rankings provide the competitive structure for the league, but they aren’t an end in themselves. There’s no Game Over in this league that you reach when your rating is too high or too low. Getting too fixated on your rating is like complaining about not being able to see the forest with all the trees in the way.

Here’s a good example of the spirit of competition we’re after. Little Mac does fairly well against most players, but he’s not yet very good against Zangief. In the past few weeks, we’ve chatted a bit about what would happen if he were to play a match against a good Gief player like djfrijoles. He told me beforehand he suspected he would probably lose. And indeed, so far both of his losses have come against Zangief. But you don’t see him worrying about it, ducking opponents who play Gief, and trying to nurse his rating. Rather the opposite, he’s even seeked out Zangief players. In the short-term, his rating might be a few points lower, but what does that matter? He’s not only showing great sportsmanship, but in the end he’ll also be a stronger player for it.

hey guys, i’m hoping to join this community you guys have started. hopefully, i can become a better player and competitor. quick question… i usually use mame .119. do i really need to get mame32k 0.64?

also is this p2p? if it is i gotta go get it

Yes, that’s what everyone uses.

You can use any emu you want as long as your opponent has it and agrees to it.
But like scaryice said, most of us are on 0.64
I’m gonna dl .119 right now and see if I can handle it. Some guy got mad at me yesterday because I didn’t have either 0.117 or 0.119 because my comp couldn’t handle them. He said the new Mame uses less resources so I’ll try and check it out. If my comp can handle it I have no beef matching with you on that one.
You should check kawaks out too. 1.58 or 1.59

I think its on the 1st post but I’ll make it easier
We never got to play sam sho do 2 but at least we can get some ST action going

can someone help me use mame32k and kawaks? how do you get onto servers? it seems different than mame.117

Once you have your P2P client installed, all you do in Mame32k 0.64 is start the program and go to File --> Play network game. From that point on, it doesn’t (as far as I know) have anything specific to do with the emulator – all you’re doing is interacting with your newly-installed (NOT the default) networking client.

At the upper-right, there is an option for “Change Mode:” and setting it to 2. Client allows you to do classic-style Kaillera gaming where you join a server. You can click the “Master Servers List” and eventually you should see GodWeapon server (click the columns to sort and unsort them and look for one with a lot of players to find it faster). Select it, click “add to local list” so you can connect to it in the future without having to mess with the master server list each time. Then join it or whatever. That’s classic, join-a-server Client mode.

If you put the networking client on 1. P2P, that’s how you connect directly to an opponent to play a game. Please see the excellent tutorials on main P2P page – click “how to use” on the left for 3 great resources.

You should be fluid at changing it between client and P2P modes so you can hop onto GodWeapon to set up matches and then hop into P2P mode to play the game itself.
