gonna be a lil late
im feeling kinda sick tonight, so i wont be on. cya next week
Tried it, and got too pissed off. Not for me.
And just what, exactly, is fun about going 0 for 12 anyway?
Yo Raisin thnx so much for this yo!!!
Most fun I’ve ever had on Kaillera. What you think are the chances of adding one more day of the week yo? I know you have a tuff job so just know that your work is appreciated amigo!!!
I would say I would help but I have no clue how to set matches up.
Congrats to scaryice on going undefeated!!!
edit
I’m really sorry to hear that tiberious =(
I hope you change your mind by next Sunday.
Just curious, your SRK name “Tiberious”, is it based off of Captain James T. Kirk from Star Trek. I can’t help but think of the old Captain whenever I see your name pop up… dood.
I get that so often it’s ceased to be even humorous. Nope. Not the emperor, either, in case you were wondering.
–> C O N G R A T S <–
to everyone who helped make this first week a success! The ST community really came together. You guys are what made this happen! Special thanks to Little Mac who helped me a ton tonight.
I’ve updated the ratings with the results from the first week.
Some thoughts:
1.) The ladder is still in flux! It’s still very new, and some people’s ratings are still drifting. If your night seemed unusually tough, don’t give up! Your rating will autocorrect itself pretty rapidly, and you’ll start winning matches, I promise. Also, keep in mind that the competition right now is especially tough – we mostly got the hardcore regulars, who tend to be pretty good players. There are plenty of intermediate-level, novice, and beginner players that will probably join if they see competition around their own level so that they don’t always feel outmatched. Keeping the faith helps encourage others to do so also.
2.) Little Mac is the co-director. Just so you guys know. If he’s taking the initiative in helping things go smoothly, it’s because it’s his job. He just asked me to make sure people know this so he doesn’t seem bossy or something like that. Haha.
3.) Things will go faster if we keep the Tourney Desk chat room for announcing match starts and results only. That way I can process the info faster and you can get your (next) game on quicker. Because everything was so new and I probably didn’t explain things well enough, what tended to happen tonight was that people would discuss match details (who’s hosting, etc.) there, and sometimes as people returned to report game results, they stayed in that room. Then if a few people started hanging out there, things would begin to snowball, because of course people looking for matches wanted to go where everyone else was.
It’s probably my fault for the confusion, but if it’s possible in the future, let’s try to use the Matchmaking room for shooting the breeze, waiting for opponents, and talk of match details. Remember too that only the winner needs to report the results at the Tourney Desk – if you lost a match and wanna play on, you can go right back to the Matchmaking room.
So does this mean youre not playing Raisin? That’s too bad, I looked forward to some heated matches :).
Here’s one thought:
With the current system you win or lose 25 points for each match. Is this perhaps a large number? Let’s say the ratings have reached asymptotic values. Then each player should have a 50% chance of winning each match. In that case player’s ratings will still be randomly fluctuating by large amounts, say by about 100 points. That means this rating system will never, even after a million games, be more accurate than to within 100 points, which will probably be a difference on the ladder of quite a few spots. Particularly since by design the total spread of points on the ladder will probably never be much more than about 500 points (its pretty tough to win 10 games in a row against anyone)
Just something to think about… Honestly if it stays the way it is I think its perfectly fine, since as Ive said before the most important thing is that its a very fun system.
I had a lot of fun. It’s nice to have matches that are important. Surprised at going 3-0 and being top of the table, but I’ll take it. :wgrin:
Battle #1 - Yuuki
I’ve played Brian and Little Mac before and it was pretty even, so being rated similar to them was expected. Still, it was pretty crazy to have my first battle be a 7-3. That’s pressure. I picked Boxer and he picked Dictator. Our first few matches were very close, me barely winning in the third round each time. He then switched to Chun Li for I believe 2 matches, and then back to Dic. I won 7-0, which didn’t seem to reflect the closeness of many of the matches. I’d say it was the toughest of the three battles.
Battle #2 - Sanjuro
5-2 was the handicap. I again used Boxer, while he couldn’t settle on a single character, using Fei, Dic, Guile, and Ken x2. Guile was definitely the toughest matchup for me. Finished 5-0.
Battle #3 - djfrijoles
7-3 handicap. DJ’s Gief always gives my Boxer a hard time, so I picked Dhalsim. We had played recently with the same matchup, and I think I won like 8-2 or something. Very tough matchup for Gief, as the lariat is a free st.fierce for Sim and it’s hard to get in. He only landed 1 or 2 spd’s the entire time, as I made use of the 3-kick button to teleport out when in danger. Although several times, it messed up on me and just kept me in the corner. Doh. I thought he would switch characters at some point but he never did. 7-0 final.
I put the kreck files up of my rank matches so you guys can check them out.
Sorry I had to do it this way but I just can’t get them to video. I don’t have enough specs =(
I tried all morning.
Any tips on how to get p2p working? It sure wouldn’t let me join or host matches. What ports need to be forwarded?
If I can find a way to get it working then I will come back and try this again when I get a chance (will be at least a couple weeks) which made it very frustrating that I had a rare chance to be free and play last night and wasn’t allowed to just because I couldn’t get p2p to work.
I don’t understand why I wasn’t allowed to play Little Mac in the GW server for a quick 5 match set especially considering we are already there in the server but whatever so that made me rather frustrated.
Because any amount of input lag renders the game unplayable. If you play through the server, you will have input lag.
How do I watch those?
You could always turn your firewall off while you’re playing.
Oops:looney:
Guess I should have put an explanation down for those that don’t know.
First make a folder in the main Mame folder and name it records. ( I think you can name it whatever you want ) and DL them to that folder. Next extract them.
Go ahead and open Mame and open your directories under options, and point the input files path to the folder with the files you downloaded ( it’s in the drop box ). Using the p2p client ONLY start net play like usual.
Instead of selecting 1.client or 2.p2p like usual from the drop box on the right, select 3.playback. A little player type of screen will pop up with the list of kreck files for you to play back. Select one and hit play. Mame will load ST like usual and
now just sit back and watch.
edit
for those of you trying to open them with Kawaks cough cough Riz0ne
lol
It’s for mame 0.64 hacked lol
djfrijoles, you got my MSN. send a message through whenever there’s a ranking battle thing or whatever.
Just go to the godweapon server on kaillera every sunday between 9pm-10:30pm EST. That’s when these ranking battles take place.
Super duper long post mode, ENGAGE!!! I recommend skipping the answers of the questions you aren’t interested in.
Sorry to hear that too. I strongly encourage you to join us again sometime. You ended up getting a couple of very tough opponents your first go-around, and your rating is relatively provisional, so it may well be still adjusting itself a bit. There is competition there around your level, and more is likely to join soon. You will win games and matches in the handicap setup!
Right now, I’m leaning heavily towards keeping it on Sundays only, and here’s why… I feel like there’s a minimum number of people necessary to keep the event running smoothly for the players. Last week, we had enough participants to prevent people from having to wait around long periods of time between each match. I feel like if we add more game days, the individual turnout for each event will be lower, which would be especially bad since we’re barely past the “enough players” threshold as it is. Weekly events keep people hungry to play each time a game day comes around, and strong turnouts will only encourage even more people to join in also. (People are more likely to show if they’re confident lots of other people will too – nobody wants to bother with a mostly-dead event.)
If and when we feel confident enough to run the event smoothly with just one person, I will probably join in too. Little Mac and I discussed this, and he’d be willing to run the event solo once in a while. So I can get my kicks in too!
Good point again, and totally correct. For now, the ability to raise or lower your rating quickly is entirely by design. This is because there are a lot of newly-rated people, and I want their ratings to self-adjust quickly so they aren’t constantly winning or losing for ages should their provisional rating be slightly off. There’s also the adjustment of the ladder itself in general, like the slight inflation we saw towards the top – I had assumed slightly too much parity.
It’s possible I might consider a lower ratings adjustment number in the future to make the rating steps less “granular,” but I plan to cross that bridge when I come to it, if/when the ladder has settled down and fewer unranked players are joining. For now, I just want lots of fast ladder movement.
(I actually considered using a +50/-50 system for the first couple weeks and then switching to a +25/-25, but I wanted the rules as simple as possible for people, and in hindsight, +50/-50 looks like awfully big steps even for a brand-new ladder.)
I’d be frustrated too if I were you. I don’t understand why P2P wasn’t working for you; especially since you were joining someone else’s game, you shouldn’t need any ports forwarded for that anyway, if I’m not mistaken. Edit: I was wrong, and you need them forwarded to either host or join a game. Of course we confirmed that the P2P public server was up by then and others were able to join his games. I think you can probably get better help at the P2P Beginner’s Guide thread. Edit: I went ahead and described the problem there. Fingers crossed someone will help…
After 30 minutes of trying every idea we had (which probably wasn’t much, given that neither of us is good at fixing these types of weird problems), I needed Little Mac to help me do organization stuff for running the tourney. I think even if he had played you, we would’ve still been stuck, since it’s a P2P league and not a Kaillera league, and there’s still the issue of getting that working before a player really has the green light.
I really hope you get it working, though. It sounds like you would give people great competition.
You got to be joking about some of these ratings… The last time I played scaryice, right off the bat I rolled him out like 7x in a row with bison and his ass dropped after saying some comment. So he’s the best player on the list?? BWAHAHAHA.
Sign up and show us your stuff if you’re that good. None of us here so far have claimed to be great players, and we’d love to have more high-level competition to play against.
There’s no need to put down other people, though. Let your game do the talking.
