Super Street Fighter IV Event: TEAM TURMOIL - Pownz eSports Centre - 05/01/2010

Yeah Nagata. Not to sound like a jerk or anything, but wouldn’t all the new changes in the game warrant that all chars be open? It is strange that original console chars are allowed if anything, should be all or none of the vanilla cast. Just curious as to why you want to do it the way its set-up now?

I’m just writing this because while I’m in for the 3v3 (gonna be awesome!)…a $10.00 entry fee for the single tourney the way it is set-up where some people can use their old characters and others can’t just doesn’t seem fair (not that I would go far with Guile anyways…) and I’m not sure I will join if that is the case.

yeah until a good reason is given for letting someone use their sf4 mains while others can’t, I’ll be passing on singles.

lol @ kymah, rey, danny, blitz vs everyones 4 day scrubby super chars.

Might as well call it the “Donate to vanilla SF4 console chars tournament”

Real talk

I will also pass on singles

Kymah will be there to steal all your monies!!!

Would anybody be able to help us with a ride there or at least partly there? please PM me if you can help us out. We live in Scarborough.

Just thought I’d add I’m also passing on singles with the current setup. Maybe if enough boycott it, it’ll get changed to SSF4 new chars only as it should be.

Only person in the thread so far who has been for the current setup is danny, and we all know why :stuck_out_tongue: Do we really need to pad his wallet more in a tourney that removes all of his bad matchups?

PS - not saying Danny making money is a bad thing… just that it will encourage people to play the console chars they already know instead of showcasing new characters in the first place. If your goal is to showcase seth and realize halfway through the tourney that you made a mistake in the ruleset, then so be it. If the goal is to showcase the new chars. . . people better start boycotting.

Raynex and I agree (i’m on the phone with him). It isn’t fair to us who want to use new characters who have to face people who have mained console characters since the beginning.

I’ll be honest in saying I could care less if a few players in the scene want to cry foul about not making the money they somehow think they’re due. For all the talk of “oh it’s not fair” it really came down to “oh I won’t get paid” or “why should I pay when Danny/Rey will just win.” The VAST majority of players in the scene enter tournaments to test their skill and have a good time. Those same players are the ones that fill the pot for all the crying top players who can’t see the masses from the high perch of their own ego.

Two people in DaDesiCanadian and DM managed to make a valid argument in #gtasf last night without crying about petty bullshit. I said I’d give it due deliberation. Their points hold up under consideration and the format for singles will be adjusted to the 10 newly introduced characters only.

I really really can’t wait…

Thank you for pulling through, but I’d like to say I found this post extremely insulting. My argument was certainly valid for justifying the rule and your post explains it perfectly.

“The VAST majority of players in the scene enter tournaments to test their skill and have a good time.”

I full agree with that statement, and no I don’t think I had a chance to win either way, but I think that its not a test of skill to have to play new characters or console characters vs. an established top tier character in Seth played by someone who knows him inside and out. How is it a test of skill when all the initial format would do is make it almost impossible for danny to lose outside of blitz’ cammy or Rey’s fei?

How is this petty? It defeats the entire purpose of showcasing SSF4 as people who already play the former cast will certainly NOT be showcasing the new characters when they could win serious cash by simply dominating with their mains.

“Those same players are the ones that fill the pot for all the crying top players who can’t see the masses from the high perch of their own ego.”

How about you survey all the ‘pot-fillers’, of which me/c3/raynex/jaywang/rb/Matt/Teddy/Dave/Dennis Kim/Anant/CQ/JAY etc… are all part of if you look at full tourney results, and see what sort of response you’d get for the old setup. Outside of Dave, I’m pretty sure even all the top players would agree that they would rather play new characters than have to switch to cammy or seth if they wanted to win the tourney, and either way they’d STILL lose to Danny since the format essentially dictates that he will win.

Again thank you for changing, but you didn’t need to post an otherwise inflammatory post to say that only Anant/CQ had a valid argument. Danny being given a free win, since you know he’ll use seth instead of showcasing a new character, goes completely against the stated goal for the tourney, and is thus a valid argument that was given by everybody (top players and pot filler alike) who was against the format.

The bulk of the argument against the format was conducted in the channel last night. The proponents for change outside of Anant and Chris couldn’t raise a single argument substantiated by anything outside of “I don’t think I’ll win, why should I pay?” Should the majority of the GTASF just boycott every tournament that has say… the top 8 players in Ontario entered? I mean hey… the odds of winning decrease dramatically with them entered. Why am I paying into the pot?

While I can agree with you that the original format lends in favour of a select number of players within the scene, it was hardly a guarantee by any means of the imagination. Until we all get our hands on the game, no one knows whehter Seth (as a primary example) has a counter within the new cast.

As I said, the original intent was meant as a showcase of new characters. I wanted all console to flesh the choices out a bit. The original intent remains and the format has been adjusted accordingly.

Sounds like my original thread stood the test of time.

Unlike Gerjay’s argument.

I like how their arguments (in the chat) weren’t even posted here, but apparently for their (and only theirs) valid reasons it was changed. How about for once in your life you admit it was a bad idea and you were wrong instead of insulting the many people who were against it for valid reasons as well?

I still can’t wait.

I’m not sure if my comment played a part into nagata’s comment, but I said what I had to say mainly because I think it will be a lot more fun if we play super-only characters. Also, I will gladly bet my last dollar that people will switch to console characters just to win, and then super characters will become non-existent near the finals. I support whatever happens either way, i’m sure it will be really fun!

First thing, I just wanted to say that I agree with everything thats been said about the console (now new challenger) tournament and how people thought it favoured others more. I just want to put in my two cents and what my point of view is.

How come people never complained when it was “arcade characters” only? Like Lovegety or whatnot tournies? (I haven’t been in the scene for long to know how many tournies but i’ve seen at least one) Console characters got excluded from the arcade version, why not vice versa? I know the intent of why so many of you was to even the playing field and that this tourney was to primarily exhibit the new challenger characters but console character players had to learn arcade characters to play on the arcade, why does this have to be any different?

Again, I do not mean to offend or downplay anybodies comments or pov. This is just from a new console character player that wants to put in my two cents.

First thing, I’m just answering because I’m bored, take anything I say with a grain of salt and don’t be insulted if I say something stupid.

I have absolutely no clue WTF you’re talking about. If you’re playing at the arcade… you obviously can’t use console characters, the system decides that. There is no link between an arcade tourney and this tourney when it comes to character selection.

All further tournies will allow all characters, the whole argument was that for this tourney the point was to use characters that haven’t been analyzed to death in the time since initial console release. The goal of this tourney was to showcase the new characters in SSF4, and hopefully the team tourney will get a chance to showcase the changes to old characters as well.

This format isn’t meant to show off the old console characters. We’ve seen them, they’ve won TV’s and beaten montreal. They’re old news. I don’t see your point at all.

You guys… people are gonna lose to my 1 day Juri anyways seeing how im playing her already

dudely,ibuki and hakan too

with weed the powers/character rosters just grow
