Super Street Fighter II Turbo, in the house

Nice one

I would say a comp-only glitch. ST’s AI does all sorts of crazy things that simply can’t be done by actual players (rapid-fire charge projectiles, cancelling uncancellable moves, ridiculous amounts of damage from multi-hit grabs, etc.). I remember AI Zangief dizzied me with just two s.HKs once.

Jump hold up HP. This is well known. Computer ain’t no fool!

Has anyone ever managed to re-create CPU Ken’s pseudo-unblockable DP?

He does a HK that lands right in front of you followed by a DP (usually fierce) that can’t be blocked by holding down-back. I think the gimmick is that the HK starts to count as a cross-up even though he never quite passes over your head.

This got mentioned on the t-akiba bbs (japanese) and the one guy seems to think its CPU only but that seems like above and beyond normal CPU cheating if that’s the case.

Saotome - well done. snappy avatar, too

NKI - I emailed you (erm, the address on your gamecombos page) re: vids

What do you people think about Guile vs Ryu ?

I always hear people say that this match is 5-5 but I personally think that it’s in Ryu’s favor, mainly because he doesn’t have to charge his fireball, and also because he can go over sonic booms with the hurricane kick (god how I hate that move :lame: ).

Japanese top players matches seem to illustrate that :
X Mania IV singles :
Muteki vs Shooting D : 1-2

X Mania IV 3 on 3 :

Muteki vs Shooting D : 0-2
Kurahashi vs Umechin : 0-2
Kurahashi vs Umechin : 0-2 (different match from the one above)
Tsunoppi vs Inoki is Back : 1-2

Hm, I’m having trouble zoning Honda with Dhalsim.
I can use fireballs to keep him at bay, but when he starts using his sumo stomp to go through them, I don’t really know what to do.

I usually just wait for him to land and then FP (which he usually blocks), and wait to see if he jumps or headbutts, but this doesn’t really seem reliable, and I don’t get any damage off.

I also have an assload of trouble with people who do repeated close jump-ins.
Back MK doesn’t work for certain characters like Fei Long and Blanka, and they usually aren’t close enough for back LP, so I just end up blocking until I get an opening. Again, I’ve tried sticking out a MP or FP when they land, but they just block and jump again.

Sticking out an FP while they’re in mid-air works at certain distance, but I find that it trades too much with a lot of normals.

It’s not skilled players who I have so much trouble with, but people who just jump in and throw/poke mix up repeatedly.
I mean, I can win, but I know I shouldn’t be losing rounds to people like this.

I’ve noticed from japanese vids that people use jump back or jump up RH to counter butt smash.

In general all the other good dhalshims I know do short slide or whatever to counter close jump-ins, but I can’t seem to replicate it with the same effectivneess (i.e. I get hit with a cross up DEEP)

Yeah, maybe it’s just the lag, but I can’t hit the cross up slide for shit.
I always seem to come up short, and then I just got owned with a cross up combo.

I’ll try the jumping RH.

It’s CPU Ken only, actually alot of CPU characters have different properties than the playable versions. CPU Ken’s Fierce DP beats alot of moves (including a Jab DP) while it’s not true for human players.

CPU Deejay Hyper Fist is more like SUPER.Deejay than playable N.DeeJay, CPU Ryu has huge recovery after overhead and rushing fierce (I heard that was a Beta left over) and CPU Bison does all those weirdo flying tricks that no human player can ever do !

ST CPU Rulez

I don’t know. I always lose to Ryu, but I suck. Remember that Guile can trade FBs then backfist (guaranteed if in range), and c.Fierce Ryu tatsumaki kicks 100%. You can also space in and maintain charge with b+Short. It really comes down to spacing. Whomever knows the spacing better wins. However, even then Ryu has a solid DP move which I think favours his match up.

Ryu has the clear advantage against Guile. Guile can win, but it’s a harder fight for him. Just ask Mike Watson.

Kyokuji: Where in Ontario do you play?

I used to play at Aladdin’s Castle at Scarborough Town Center when I was younger, but I moved to London years ago.

Then I played at a Wizard’s Arcade in downtown London, but they went out of business a bit ago, so I mostly play online on kaillera now, which is too bad since Third Strike isn’t emulated obviously, so I’m stuck for competition on that game.

I remember asking about this ages ago. It was when Anniversary collection was out for PSX, and it was CPU HF Ken that gave me this trouble. I didn’t get an answer then either.

By all rights, you should be able to test this and see if a human can do it or not. I know you can make it happen with the CPU just by blocking all day in the corner. Eventually he’ll do the whiff RH hurricane, and then HP DP (which you can’t block).

I totally forgot about this, thanks for the recollection.

In any case, I think you could in fact block the DP by holding down-towards. It’s been a long time, but that’s what I remember. If this IS the case, it would clearly show that the game thinks he has crossed you up.

As hard as I’ve wanted to believe this match is fair… it just isn’t. Whenever I see this match played in Japanese vids, Guile almost always gets rocked.

I guess the match was a bit in Ryu’s favor in HF to begin with… and Guile is really nerfed since then, while Ryu got a great super.

Funny thing is, Guile just seems to get rocked in almost every matchup I see him play in Japanese vids. The only exceptions being against shitty characters like Honda, Zangief, T. Hawk, etc.

Yeah, everyone’s been getting new tools since WW, while Guile’s mostly remained the same, and has even been dumbed down in some places.
Granted, he still has some nice follow-ups and he’s a solid character, but he’s not god tier like he used to be.

And I wouldn’t go so far as to call Honda shitty.
Against non-projectile characters, he’s considerably more deadly.

0_o???

Honda is so cheap against non projectile chars its not even funny…and considering 2 of the god tier (Vega and Balrog) are non projectile, I don’t think Honda sucks in any way shape or form. In fact I’ve heard from a really good OG player that if it wasn’t for shotos (including O. Sagat) and guile, Honda would run ST like nobody’s business.

Okay, I saw the most screwed up thing yesterday while playing Gief against the CPU…

Blanka DOUBLE HORIZONTAL ROLL IN BOTH DIRECTIONS PAST ME WTF

I was just sitting there with this blank expression…he rolled PAST me, came BACK past me, knocked me down with elec for a dizzy and then bitethrow-KO’ed me during my dizzy…what the HECK, MAN???

Truth. I generally play Ryu, but sometimes I’ll switch it up with Vega or Cammy. A friend of mine loves to use Honda. I admit I’m pretty scrubby with Vega and Cammy, but I still think I have an exceptional amount of trouble dealing with Honda when I use those two. With Ryu, though, I can peace my friend’s Honda with no problems.

Dhalsim has a DP called standing jab. Many characters like Honda will try to jump from far away to try to trade or hit clean. If they are jumping close but hitting high to trade, block then throw. Honda does give Dhalsim lots of trouble at first, but a really well played Dhalsim pwns Honda, and pretty much everyone in the game; it just takes a long time to get there.

Ryu-Guile was quite tough for Ryu in WW, since Guile was clearly the best character for that incarnation of SF. Since then, he’s obviously lost ground, ST being no exception. I’d put the match about 6.5-3.5 in Ryu’s favor.

Personally I think Vega/Dhalshim is pretty even. The only thing Dhalshim truly has against Vega is that the latter does not have a safe way to get out of slide/noogie loops. Other thatn that, zoning Vega with fbs ad limbs is pretty hard at least in my limited scrubby experience.
