James Chen is my hero. Traumatized that guy so bad, he was ready to fly home thinking he’d been eliminated for sure. Next time around we should hire a Cammy cosplayer to scare Gian out of the building.
Thanks for the Translation I enjoy these interviews…
I’m gonna go a lil off topic but I heard you lived in Japan for a year… the thing is I’ll be visiting there soon and I’m thinnking about moving there sometime soon or later… I wanted to know how you learned Japanese and how long it took you… and what type of work you did there
Also any special place in Japan where all the Pro ST players be playing?
Yeah, I didn’t mean full screen Psychic DP, but rather every time he does a DP, it hits. That fool can read your mind.
Well, it’s on The Insanity DVD which is still for sale, so I’m not going to put it online. If you live in SoCal, I’m sure there’s at least one person who has that DVD.
He will not be going.
Chun’s far st.Jab beats it clean. You don’t even need to time it…just mash.
Hahaha…good shit.
First I studied for two years at my university (UMSL), then I went to Toyo University as an exchange student and studied there for another year. I got a FATTY scholarship, so all I did for work was a little bit of English tutoring on the side (maybe 5 hours per week), and I was set. But then again, I don’t live a very extravagent lifestyle, so I don’t need a lot of money…
If you’re in Tokyo, the best place to go is More, which is in Shinjuku:

If you’re in Osaka, the best place to go is Nagase UFO. I’ve never been there, so I dunno how to get there…
So how good is your japanese? You think it’s possible for me to communicate in japanese or maybe even read japanese websites in a year (w courses /without courses) (IN Japan)
Where can I buy the Insanity DVD? How much is it? Will it play on an Xbox or PS2 if I use them as DVD players?
It comes with a music cd, and the best hitbox book ive seen for st. The total package cost me like 70 after 20 dollar air shipping. Its really worth it though. My brother played it on my ps2.
Matador does ridiculously well against Guile with just two moves, low strong and low roundhouse. Get him to block low strongs until he’s out of range, then low roundhouse. Repeat. It’s not free by any means, of course, but there’s no real “stop doing that” tactic to employ against it.
Everyone needs the Insanity DVD. The matches are nuts.
In only one year? The only way you can do that is with immersion courses. I’m not too shabby in my reading and speaking, and I’ve been learning on my own for the past 10 years the bad way(random anime/manga/fighting games).
But seriously, while Japanese isn’t a complicated language rule-wise, the things that will get you is context and vocabulary. Kanji is very unforgiving. You’d have to do nothing but study the language(including extensive speech training to get you accustomed to using the right words) that whole year to get to where you’d want to be.
Is N.Ken’s j.jab xx huricane a link or is it bufferable in air? I can’t seem to do it. Do I just suck?
Haha, Shady Negroes. I remember laughing my ass off when you originally posted back in the greatest thread ever.
Yeah Claw is a tough match for Guile. The Sonic Boom is basically useless except if they mis-range and mis-time a low roundhouse or low strong.
Everyone (including me) says this match is heavily in favor of Claw but evertime I see the match Guile wins. Usually due to Guile hitting a jumping-short crossup and going from there.
It’s not that bad for Guile if you can stay on the offensive but the typical Guile turtling won’t work at all unless you have impeccable timing on your booms as well as things like standing forward, which IIRC works pretty well against Claw. (Though I may be wrong there)
guile can win with well placed flashkicks vs the strong/low roundhouse.
As for new ken, it has to connect to combo it, you need to be on the enemy to do the air two in ones into hurricane kicks, you can do it with any level punch too, not just jab.
The key to landing Ken’s Jump Jab into Hurricane Kick is to hit Jab as late as possible. If you jump and Jab right away and fall onto the enemy with the Jab, it’ll never Buffer. You can only Buffer the Jab (or Strong or Fierce) the few frames right after it starts.
The easiest way to do it (after Ken’s Forward Kick Throw, for example), is to jump and do the Hurricane Kick motion and then hit Jab then Kick right away.
And Graham, I heard in ST that Guile cannot Razor Kick Claw’s Low Roundhouse slide if Claw distances it right. I haven’t tested it myself, but if it’s true, it hurts Guile a lot in the fight.

I’m not fluent, but conversational Japanese is usually not a problem. I find reading and writing to be way, way harder than speaking, so I don’t know how much you’d be able to read after just one year.
Speaking is so much more important than reading/writing anyway, so I would concentrate on speaking first, then once you’ve got that down pretty well, try to improve your reading/writing. (Unless all you want to do is translate Japanese websites…)
PM me if you have any other questions, because this really doesn’t have to do with ST.

Yeah st guiles flashkick is smaller, its still possible to hit it i think , but you need to time it much tighter. Which is why i prefer old st guile. Besides that you can jump straight up and come down with fierce into low forward (or standing roundhouse with st guile) if vega slides at the same time.
NKI, what codec did you use for the GMC videos, the buncha separate ones? I tried watching them but i get serious stoppage during it. I tried a buncha different viewers and got the same results in all of em.
If I do a jab/short in the air, will I stay in the air a little longer than if I didn’t do any move at all? (example: Ryu throws a fireball at Guile, Guile jumps straight in the air and does a jumping jab/short)
No i dont think that affects fall rate, but some characters have moves to avoid fireballs when jumping straight up, such as spin kicks in midair, or controllable fierce (balrog/honda).
What do you mean by controllable fierce?
This it ture.
If claw does his slide from a good range, Guiles flash kickwhiffs cleanly.
The error has to come from the claw player, if he does it to close, he get the flash kicked.
