Super Smash Bros. General - Patience and Spacing....or Whine and Moan

Poor Little White Plumber 4

Smash page has been updated with Luigi: http://www.smashbros.com/us/characters/luigi.html

My hype for this game is starting to fade…moar new characters pls

What’s really interesting is this blurb on Luigi’s page: “Want to know more about Luigi? Visit the official website for Mario & Luigi: Dream Team.”

In other words, Luigi is only in this game to provide advertising for another Nintendo title! Very much like what they did with Roy in Melee to promote Fire Emblem 6, and now he’s gone in future Smash games. Enjoy Luigi while you can guys, he’s obviously not going to be returning in Smash 5 or any other title in the franchise. This is the height of cynical advertising, and spits on the legacy of an iconic chara–

…Excuse me. My agent has just informed me none of you are dumb enough to actually fall for that. I withdraw my comment!

Is it just me or does Luigi seem a little bigger this time around? Specifically in this image:

He seriously looks the same size as Samus and Link. I suppose it’s possible that those two are a little smaller, but it’s not just me, right?

Various responses.

On Lightning and that stupid-ass catgirl outfit: Thank you. I needed a reminder that Squeenix is totally onboard with gutting their characters’ personalities in the name of wearing attire that makes no sense for them. I’d actually be okay with it if we weren’t clearly shown over the last two games that she is an extremely serious, “accomplish my objectives and the hell with anything other than overwhelming moral concerns” sort of person, but she is and this makes no sense. They can shoehorn in whatever plot excuses they want, it’s still dumb; I like my RPGs’ plots to be basically consistent and sensible.

Responding to UnSaxon51 on Luigi: …Slightly, but if so it’s minor. A few things come to mind. One, Luigi has always been story-fluffed as the taller brother. They may have decided to make that a little more clear than usual this time around? Two, Link’s and Samus’ postures compact their body in this photo; it’s hard to tell. I see where you’re getting it from (and I agree, my eyes reached the same conclusion at first), but I think it’s just a visual trick. Notice how he’s roughly Pit’s height in the image below, plus towered over by Bowser in images previously posted in this thread.

I’m seeing the same thing you are, but I seriously think our eyes are being fooled by the poses each character are in and how that effects our perception of anatomy/size.

I am ready to SHIN SHO MOTHA FUCKAS. and then immediately do his godlike 2 frame pose taunt that they put back in.

God damn does hitting people with Luigi’s Shin Sho feel incredibly satisfying. Can’t wait.

Luigi’s shoe is the size of Link’s leg, guess he’s been eating his mushrooms.

I pretty much expect all the OG cast to make it in, if they cut jigglypuff then my god…

I never understood why they gave Peach’s Final Smash a sleeping effect when it clearly would’ve fit Jigglypuff better.

Yoooooooooooo!!! LUUUUUUUUUUUIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGGGGGGGGGIIIIIIIIIIII!!!

Seriously, Weegee is the only dude I fucks with in Smash.

SHORYUKEN! Bitches.

As if they couldn’t make this pic look any more gay…

Pic of the day:

Take a deep breath…

Wii Fit stage, I guess? That mirror in the background is a nice touch.

(Insert creepy, overly pandering artwork of Wii Fit Trainer here in response to the daily screenshot that includes her)

There, got that out of the way for us so now we can discuss other topics about the game. After all, we’ve had tons of exciting news lately such as…

…Umm…

…Er…

…Yeah. Luigi, I guess. Which pretty much everyone took as a given, even if I am glad to see the confirmation made some of you happy. Not that the reveal gave us much of a clue as to what his moves (other than one or two) are going to be like or much else to talk about, though. Really wish they’d toss us some match videos or something.

I’d be surprised. Jigglypuff is a fan favorite.

I’m fine currently with the small trickle of information since we could easily be getting no screenshots/info save for a batch every 1-2 months. We still don’t know exactly when the game is projected to come out save for just some time next year. Posting a screenshot a day isn’t really that hard and doesn’t take much in the way from the development. I’m sure as the game gets closer the flood gates will start to open up so it’s just a matter of patience.

I got a question for you guys…If you were Sakurai and you had to cut at least 1 character from the roster (and by roster I mean anybody from Melee and Brawl’s that’s not including 3rd party characters) who would it be and why?

Wolf. Because, why the fuck no?

I’m going to cheat and give three answers.

I would ‘clone’ Falco onto Fox’s stats/moves, making him purely an alternate costume for Fox. They’re similar enough that there’s really no reason to give them a slot apiece… fans of one will be disappointed if the other is superior, so why not just make them both truly equal this way?

Shiek would be detached from Zelda so they were wholly separate characters. In theory this would force Me-Sakurai to sit down and make both of them viable, not just one or the other.

If I was faced with the choice of cutting one previous Brawl character in favor of enough dev time to put in someone else completely different, I… would drop Young Link and add Captain N. I am actually serious on that part; it would be a “WTF? Whoa!” moment for the audience, and might snag a few extra nostalgia buyers in the western (read: primarily American) market. You can even make a pretty decent move-list for him revolving around wielding various Nintendo hardware, so he wouldn’t be a Fox clone. If told I couldn’t do that for various rights reasons, I’d have to think on who to replace him with.

Young Link would be removed on generally the same basis I would merge Falco and Fox. Most of his tricks are already covered by Adult Link, so I see no reason for ‘clones’ and minor to moderate variants on the idea… nevermind both being from the same franchise. If you have finite roster slots/manpower to make characters, then I want as much diversity as possible. I’d even be willing to ditch 3 to 4 clones for one wholly different character. Sadly, Young Link’s notably different size means he can’t just share hitboxes with Adult Link so alt-costume’ing him is out; I’d just give him the boot.

Likely choice: ROB. Because even though he’s very fun and unique, he’s easily the most oddball character from the previous games. Yes he’s an important part of Nintendo (and gaming) history, but he’s the character who I feel is least necessary to keep. On top of that, I think he was mostly included because of Subspace Emissary, so there’s that, too.

Personal choice: Falco. Hear me out on this. In Melee, Falco was almost an exact clone of Fox. Yeah, there were differences, but in general you were playing two flavors of the same character. In Brawl, they emphasized his differences a bit, but also added Wolf, who was yet another version of the same basic concept. However, I think that Wolf’s look and playstyle varies much more from Fox than Falco’s does, and that (to me) makes him a more interesting and fun character to play.
Note: This will never happen and Wolf will get cut long before Falco, but this is my honest opinion on the subject.
