Am I in the wrong for wanting Marth to be retired? I main the guy but I think he is a little due.
Those screenshots look so pretty.
Now imagine how it looks in motion at 60fps…
Marth could be replaced by the two main characters in Awakening: Chrom and Lucina.
Lucina
[details=Spoiler]
Lucina poses as Marth at the start of the game, so if anyone complains about Marth not making the cut, well Lucina is the replacement. :P[/details]
I dont think I even used olimar but I guess if you mained him this is great news for you guys
FIRE EMBLEM REP TIME…Marth is veteran status Syke, dont ruin tradition!
I wouldn’t mind a wyvern rider joining. The internet did Chrom pretty…dirty. I think something other than swords can do some good. Unless they give Marth back his spike.
I doubt it. They didn’t replace Olimar with any of the new Pikmin characters so I’m pretty sure they aren’t gonna ditch Marth for one of the new Fire Emblem reps.
That being said, I’d be surprised if Chrom (or Lucina as a possible alt) doesn’t appear as a newcomer.
Plus Chrom is more Ike-Like in fighting style. Replacing Marth with him means losing that (Unless they make Lucy Marth 2.0.)
Since we’ve been discussing the Evo/Smash situation here…
Sadly, I won’t have time to watch the whole thing today; got some stuff I need to tend to very soon that will take up all of my evening. Nonetheless, I dropped by to watch the Smash stream earlier and was pleasantly surprised. I maintain the game has some issues (the pace with which top players burn through controllers, by accounts I’ve heard over the years, is very worrying when I consider getting into the game)… but I see the metagame has grown somewhat from the last time I checked and I’ve gained some respect for Melee. If Smash 4 manages to take what is good about Melee, improves the good ideas Brawl had (but did not implement quite right) then we could be in for something very nice indeed.
And to think, it wouldn’t have happened without a very devoted community getting the game in… and then convincing Nintendo to back down when they made a bizarre choice regarding the streams. That takes a lot of heart, and I’m impressed.
Eh. I can see why as I feel the same with Gannondorf and Zelda being able to transform into Sheik and back.
But at the same time, Marth has been the most popular Fire Emblem character in over 20 years, they sold the last 3 games in the franchise somewhat marketing off his image and he was initially a fan vote. Coming off the most popular game the franchise has had in years, I can only guess if it isn’t the normal Marth it will be the most popular character from Awakening who I mentioned before could replace him. But truthfully, I can’t see them doing that because removing Marth would probably be like switching out Captain Falcon or Jigglypuff.
Sakurai in all interviews in regards to the game stresses how much a pain in the ass fans and character selection is, I’d doubt he’d make a move that would paint a target on his back by removing a character with Marth’s fanbase.
There’s more information on what happened with Nintendo and Evo
Fucking dumb as hell Nintendo…You can’t even really hide behind that ‘We want to protect our IP’ BS on this at all. That video someone posted from the Boondocks is so correct on this.
Just further proof one or more of the current Nintendo higher ups are fucking morons that don’t seem to understand their North American audience.
Maximillian playing Brawl online. EMBRACE THE LAG, LET IF FLOW!!!
I’m really looking forward to Smash Wii U online. If Tekken Tag Tournament 2 Wii U edition is any indication, Smash for Wii U online will be great.
I remember when people tried to play Melee over AOL.
…??? How did they even attempt to play Melee online?
Yeah, what? Melee online how?
I don’t have the full details, but there was (still is?) a ‘network tunneling’ program that allowed netplay for the Gamecube. I… think it was called Warp Pipe? I’m not very familiar with the underlying technology, but I was told it was very vaguely like the ‘TCP to IPX’ wrapper techniques used by the old PC software “Kali”. Sorry I don’t know more, but the idea is a real thing.
I know the Gamecube at one point was meant to be online capable, but the only game I know of that was able to use it was Phantasy Star Online (which was an awesome game btw).
How exactly would you make melee compatible with any sort of feature like that?
There was a video from like 2005 - 2006 on the first version of youtube that showed it. You had to do something to the Phantasy Star Online adapter for gamecube.
Found it. Just as buggy as I remember it.

Playing through Fire Emblem: Awakening again for the 5th time…we seriously need Owain as the new FE rep.
RADIAAAAANT…DAAAAAWWWWWWWN!!!
Just give Fire Emblem it’s own fighting game already, Nintendo. Right after you make that motion control Action RPG with Ike as the main character.
