Super Smash Bros. General - Patience and Spacing....or Whine and Moan

I actually loved all the changes they made to Falco. Mostly because I hated Fox/Falco with a burning passion in Melee.

Definitely doesn’t look like it. They’re probably just going to make him a faster character instead :frowning:

Regarding combining the Fire Emblem Lords as multiple costumes on Marth’s movelist: Fine by me! I was actually annoyed by how Ike played in Brawl because he was this incredibly clumsy super-heavy character who was only vaguely like how he behaved in Fire Emblem 9 and 10. Most of the Lords fight roughly the same anyway, so if you want to toss Roy, Marth, Lyn (that might require an alternate model, but oh well), Ike, Chrom, and so on all onto the same character slot as different skins/models for an identical movelist and stats… then that’s the best solution I can think of. It requires the art team to do some more work and you have to slip the narrator a little extra cash so he yells “ROY! MARTH! LYN! SUB-ZERO! MORTAL KOMBAAAAT!” for the roster screen, but I think it’s worth the small investment.

Not only is it accurate enough in most cases, but this frees up developer time to make a whole new Fire Emblem character. Let’s get a mage or some sort of cavalry (aerial or otherwise) in there, or even a true super-heavy like a Knight. There are so many options for interesting move lists in Smash based on Fire Emblem that doing yet another sword-fighter with a Chargeable B, a Counter, and a sword-uppercut is just a waste of potential. I have to believe people would get excited for other options.

To put it another way, any series that gets more than one character really needs enough material to ensure those characters play very differently from one another. Anything else just leads to “LANDMASTER!” jokes, disappointed fans (“That’s not how X really fights, they’re not just a minor variation on Y”), and people making fun of the devs for ‘being lazy’ (whether that’s true or not).

Bowser was actually a solid mid tier in Brawl if you ask me. D3 was high tier. DK was only hindered by chaingrabs. Bowser isn’t really a slow character, he just has a lot of recovery on his attacks. His dashes and air speed are good.

The game looks like it has Brawl’s floatiness/pace.

Bowser had power but never had any real way to assert himself. Heck, the only thing he had to get people off of him was Whirling Fortress. Some armor would go a long way in making him a better character.

Id really like to see Simon Belmondo.

Melee was horrible with the clones, just remembering Dr. Mario, Young Link and Pichu makes me appreciate what they tried to do in Brawl more.

And the only way I would want the Fire Emblem characters or their second rep to be clones of Marth would be if it was Lucina from Awakening. Still would prefer to see/hear Owain if only for shout special attacks.

Looking over the trailers again…is it just me or are there next to no stage gimmicks so far? It seems like every stage, except for a couple of the 3DS stages (the Mario one with the spikes and the Spirit Tracks one), is a balanced stage.

So perhaps there won’t be as much focus on stage gimmicks/hazards this time around and we’ll have more balanced stages, rather than practically every stage having some kind of hazard. Sounds good to me. I mean, stages with hazards lead to fun and chaotic play, but we don’t need practically every stage to have some kind of gimmick or hazard…

I’m terrified that the Nintendog in the background is more than just scenery.

I’m sure stages with tons of activity will still be present. Most Smash Bros trailers are done with the more basic stages in the beginning. They are showing off the characters and mechanics mostly on the beginning.

Random thought but I hope those trophies that attack end up coming back. So cool.

And again, I would like to see Simon Belmont, or Alucard. Maybe too dark but hey, we had Snake in Brawl.

I assume the Wii U version is dropping first. No interest in a 3DS at moment.

Nah, fuck that. I need Spear Pillar shenanigans back for trolling Smashboards players… Nothing more satifying than someone crying about how cheap I am for playing on a “non-tournament legal” stage, lol.

Get fucked by Palkia flipping the screen upside down/reversing controls and firing impossible-to-dodge Hyper Beams through the cave at the bottom… I’m having FUN.

I don’t even mind stages having gimmicks if you can control them. Injustice has shown us there is an acceptable way to make the stage part of the fight. That said, I doubt that’ll be the case in Smash For Wii-U/3DS (I really wish we had a more elegant name for this) because it clashes with the party game aspects.

I’m also going to say something very bold: I hope they get rid of Final Destination. The flexible movement systems in Smash have always been a major part of the series’ appeal, and the near-featureless Final Destination does not play to this strength. Not only that, but I want to see the stage gone just so the people parroting that stupid “Fox only, No Items, Final Destination” cliche have to come up with something else or shut up.

I want Final Destination gone because it’s just a flat out terrible stage. With everything the game has to offer, playing on a flat line feels like a waste.

Too bad they already showed Final Destination(although with a lot more color and pizzazz than ususal) in the Direct. It looks similar to Battlefield, so it’s easily missed.

But at least its not in space anymore?

Clones that are far more interesting and fun than their base characters: Luigi, Pichu, Wolf, Roy, Ike, Toon/Young Link, Ganondorf. Also, any clone I neglected to mention. Fuck Fox.

GO WEEGEE
If my main man Luigi aint in then im going to fuck Sakurai up.

^See, I knew I liked you, Joshkaz… WEEGEE will make it. He’s being too hyped by Ninty right now(Super Luigi U/Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon/3DS Mario & Luigi plot having to do with going inside his dreams)to not have a spot in Smash.

I may be playing as Mega Man when it comes out, but Luigi is my dude. I have to SHORYUKEN some fools.

Heads will roll if I don’t get Luigi. Luigi will still be in even if he isn’t a clone. They can make a new moveset for him based on Luigi Mansion games.

Sorry, but I saw nothing fun in using a character where half of its attacks damaged itself. To make matters worse, those aforementioned attacks are crucial for Pichu/Pikachu. Even though they inflict minor damage on yourself (1-3%), Pichu isn’t exactly a powerhouse and he needs those electric moves to get a KO. Because of that, the self-inflicted damaged racks up at a pretty good pace. Not to mention that he’s light as light can be. He doesn’t need any needless damage. Oh and Up-B damages itself even though it’s not an electric attack… Interesting, yes. Fun, no.
