About the adjusting of the game to make it competitive. Yeah you have to adjust a few things, turn off items (which is a standard opinion), and put to time and stock. The biggest change to the tournament scene is in the levels which is pretty much the largest difference and makes the game on different levels regionally. Japan only has 2 tournament stages and US has just a few stages banned. I’m hoping Brawl won’t have as stupid of levels so known will have to be banned in competitive play.
Melee is still a deep game with default settings and all levels but some things just make it broken (namely Fox on Hyrule) and others too random (exploding boxes that hit you before you see them).
I know Im a bit crazy, but I am really hoping Brawl will section the stages into definitive groups. Standard Stages (which will be none moving stages), Movement Stages, and Extra. All Extra stages would be the really gimmicky levels (super large like Hyrule in melee, or small like Flat Zone). That way we can just say Extra stages are banned and not have to worry much. Though there will still probably be flat stage scrubs around.
Making a honest rebuttal is dissimilar from saving face. Just admit you disagree and that’s that, no harm no foul. There are many top players who are above you that have different views on balance issues, tiers, playing styles, and what is considered “honorable.” (Ice Climbers infinite anyone?) If everyone ascribed to all their individual philosophies just because they were better or more “experienced” instead of rationally understanding the complexities themselves, that would be the real tragedy.
