Super Smash Bros. Brawl - Wii are very amused

Quote : hell the disigner of smash said that items and stage where used to balance the characters…

That doesnt make sense. If one character is horrible without items, that same character is going to be horrible with items. Item drops are completely random, so both characters have equal chance for the items. That being the case, Items can NOT even out the game. Both top tier and bottom tier characters are going to have the same items drop during the game.

There is a new post entitled “What is Final Smash” in which it says

"The Final Smash is a secret skill that can be performed but once?and only after obtaining an item called the Smash Ball, which is a precious item, indeed.

The basic gist of it? I suppose you could say it?s kind of like a powerful and personalized hammer. (Or maybe not?)

You can look forward to experiencing the glowing personality behind each of the many Final Smashes!"

I was kind of hoping for an explanation of how it is specifically done, but I simply got a “I-I…I want it!” when I scrolled down, thanks a lot. I say they have a game mode with a set amount of these per match if they aren’t ridiculously unbalanced.

I’m guessing it does an instant KO.

Anyway, I’m hoping the next third party character ends up being something no one expects, like Rygar or something.

I hope it doesn’t normally, but it is an item after all.

actually it does make sense.
for ex lets say mario is a top tier character and luigi is low tier and they battle:
a gun drops. the gun attacks are pretty good, better than luigi’s tools but worse than mario’s tools.
if mario pick up the gun then, well, he is better off w/o it anyways, so he throws it out of the arena.
but if luigi picks it up, it make him a better character, so he uses it.

so theres a 50/50 chance that:
50%- nothing happens
50%- luigi becomes a better character for a little time

sounds like balancing to me, a tiny ghetto way of balancing but still balancing nonetheless.

BUT if the items will be better than each character’s tools, then it will just make the game stupid random. he who grabs the item wins.

but if the item generally makes them better, or they are faster then they get it and it works better to their advantage.

So generally that is a bunch of crap.

For the items, I think it also depends on how well they make the characters able to use them. For example, with crates in SSBM,Bowser and DK could toss them farther than ,most of the cast, and DK could jump when holding them. Another example is how Mewtwo uses swords, bats, etc,as well as C.Falcon’s wierd upswing with those items. What if they added more character-specific properties to items? Make certain characters able to utilze them better? I’m not saying make them item-dependent,but just to make it more sensible.

Ah,whatever. It’s not like items will ever be allowed in tourneys.

Smash Ball appearing only once and allowing a character to do their Final Smash only once per match does sound pretty balanced, actually, since it would essentially be a race to get it and get your super out, it could really potentially turn a losing match around for, say, a Jiggly getting raped by a Marth

will Smash balls (no pun intended) be banned from tournaments?

this is not good for you guys I thought it was an instant final smash after you got it but it seems you can hold on to it? why oh why did they do that…

…what if Kirby could copy Final Smashes?

Wario: WELCOME TO WARIO WAFT! Have a Rotten Day!! bends over
Kirby: I’m all up in this bitch! Kirby Waft

…and the landscape decays, innocent people die, the sky turns brown, and the other players have to sit and suffer.

But seriously, good update today. :wgrin: Sounds like Super Arts to me!

Peach: AEGIS REFLECTOR!

It’s an item, so the probability of it being banned is high.

If there were actually a way of having this work out, although it wouldn’t, I think it would be cool to have a game mode where a character has a set amount of two items and final smashes (if they aren’t instant KOs) such as let’s say four lives Mario gets a super mushroom, a star and a super smash thing. If it were the GC controller, the mushroom and star would be left and right and down would be the final smash while still having up taunt. It would be another option that you can use strategically.

If it were at all possible, which it probably isn’t, that they could get a certain amount of character specific items for match in competition it would be cool, but then again no one would make a list of any given items X character would have, I just doubt it would get followed and it would be ignored anyway people would just play normally.

AEGIS REFLECTOR! I would use Urien if he were in this game. Nintendo would probably give him pants if he were.

LOL so non item players are gonna turn off the item that allows Supers??? I’m sorry but that’s just crazy talk. Eh I’m all for items anyway. But really, I would think this is one item you should allow if you can turn the rest off. I mean, come on, it’s a Super… they make Tourney vids look purty…

uncontrolled random dropping instant KO’s, no thx. purty or not

Oh shit, its Lumbro! I doubt you remember me, but I played you at MLG Orlando 2k5 waaaay back when. I didn’t even know you posted here, heh.

Anyways, back on topic. Herest o hoping that these new “supers” aren’t completely broken

no no no cuz… i’m not saying that as an opinion… i read that in a hal interview a long time ago… said characters like kirby and picachu are weaker but faster so they can grab or get to the items easier like food or weapons helping them out… and characters with no projectiles like dk get a power boost when using lasers and star rods and things of that nature… i’m not saying it as a opinion i read it in a interview a few years back… so what i’m saying is that we they made the game they made it with items in mind and balancing the game accordingly… thus taking out the items unbalanced the game…

Re: Final Smash - Still no guaranty that it is in an instant KO and we don’t know if it gives you an automatic ring out or just knocks you a certain amount of space back. And they can be dodged too supposedly from Sakurai saying “If Mario launches this at you, you?d better flee!” Anyway we’ll see…

Anyone else think you should be able to block all final smash attacks without the shield decreasing/breaking? At the same time, the one who possesses the smash orb shouldn’t be able to grab/throw (anti-shield tactics) while he has it.

…Gotta go to work. I’ll post my other ideas on it later tonight.

goddang, that final smash icon used on the the website is siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiick. I want to make an av of it and a wallpaper… i might just go do that now… :0

and mario going super sayin = total gangsta.

I really don’t get why people want items on. Yeah I can see how it might help lower tier characters, but they completely screw people over. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been down to one life against a friend and had the match won and an ITEM suddenly pops up (like a Bomb) and I get hit and die (most of the time a bombomb that pops up as soon as I throw a smash attack, so I kill myself by accident), losing the match that I had in the bank… Stuff like that happens. Taking items off makes the game better because it eliminates randomness that items add. People who play with items DEPEND on the items, or so it seems from all the people that I’ve played who play with them on. That is the entire point of eliminating the items…to end up focusing on skill, which should be what determines who wins a match. Also, they don’t always help characters. Let’s say you’re playing against Fox and an item pops up in the middle of you two and you’re DK. Fox WILL get the item first most likely. They say it balances out the game? Not really. It just makes the slow characters even worse and the top tier even more broken, because not only do they have all the abilities that make them the best, but they also have explosives and other items like hammers that can add to their greatness.

Yes, Smash IS a fighting game. It might not be a traditional one like KOF or SF, but it is a fighting game nonetheless (despite how different it is from the norm.) Therefore, it’s a necessity for anyone who plays the game competitively to eliminate randomness. There is no randomness in Third Strike for example. Let’s say you were playing 3s as Yun and you activate genei jin and then do a shoulder straight into an item on the screen that KOs you instantly. Would that be right? No. And players would turn off the items if possible to prevent them from hindering their performance. I really don’t see how this is any different than that. Yeah, the way you get KOd is different and there are no health bars(instead a % in its place.) I don’t even play Smash competitively really, just against my buddies, but I still recognize it as a fighting game, despite how different it is from Marvel, 3s, etc.

I like the update on the Final Smash, but since it is an item, I’m 99.9% sure that competitive Smash players will turn it off(if they still allow that option in the game.) If its an Auto KO there is no way that it will stay on in tourney play. Since it can completely change the outcome of matches, I highly doubt that it would stay on when it could potentially take money earnings from tourneys out of the person who rightfully deserves to win’s hands.

it will probably be an auto KO (with plenty of start up lag so anyone can dodge it at least 1/2 a frame… lol) due it it being called “Final” Smash.
