Super Smash Bros. Brawl - Wii are very amused

Haha the “Gooey Bomb” Looks fun.

i expect my last post to have incited battle thruout this topic by tomorrow

EDIT: btw BlodiaVulcan5…go to Fanime and play melee http://www.fanime.com

Wow. Even as a pessimist I was expecting 2 items.

Also, can we take all the melee talk to the melee thread?

…seriously.

nintendo’s bootleg plasma grenade… “The Gooey Bomb”!

player 1:"stop moving! i wanna throw my goo on you…"
player 2: “wtf, dude.”

It’s a cartoony version of Napalm guyz o0

“OH THE HORROR!”

Gooey Bomb aka the semen ball

I can see it now…“Oh Gooey Bombs are banned in Tournaments”…lol

Link +gooey bomb =death…especially how I used to play the grab the coin matches with 10 secs. left on the clock

Ha ha ha, Gooey Bomb. That is awesome. The animations sell it so well, esp. Mario in the last pic.

Wow something new on the site! :wow:

For some reason I’m reminded of that guy wearing that “Soy Bomb” shirt that crashed the MTV Music Awards a few years back, got up on stage and started dancing with the band, only I’m thinking of Sakurai up there dancing with a “Gooey Bomb” shirt. I think waking up in the middle of the night to see these updates is driving me nuts… :looney:

I don’t know if anyone else noticed this, but if you click on the items panel, and then click on the gooey bomb, you can see the path Home > Items > Normal Items.

So I guess there are going to be “normal items” and “special items?”

Items like the smash emblems are probably going to be “special” I wonder why they’re making a distinction. Maybe smash emblems can’t be turned off (I’d lol.)

…seriously.

Nice… I tried http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/items/item02.html, but nothing…anyone get into the site and find unreleased info yet? Or is this a “sword of a thousand truths” thing, and they are really pushing security.

I don’t like how the gooey bomb doesn’t change it’s shape when hanging on Wario and Mario…looks like it’s still on the ground.

I’m sure they don’t upload anything til they’re ready to post it.

…seriously.

Those Super smash attacks better be able to be turned off…

That’s one thing I don’t get about Smash Players who view the game as a ‘fighting’ game.

They change the options.

Somehow, house rules about stages and items got into the competitive play environment. We don’t turn the timer off in SF, we don’t alter the settings for super meter, so when did it become ok to ban stages and weapons?

Am I the only one who just sees the stage obstacle and item warfare as an aspect of Smash that should be embraced rather than shunned?

I dunno, maybe Fox wouldn’t be so top tier if stages that compromise your control and balance ability were available in tournements. Marth doesn’t rock so hard when you’re on the giant Hyrule stage and edge guarding isn’t a dominating tactic.

I suppose I’m alone in this, but the battlefield and random drops were a defining part of the game for me.

Exactly, random. I dont think you would like it if a random exploding capsule happened to blow you up in the finals of a tourney match, playing for a very nice sum of money. This is the one reason items are banned in tourney play from what i’ve heard.

Well, isn’t that just too bad for the person involved then? I mean, if the players go in to the game, understanding the rules, understanding that there are random factors that have to be addressed, what’s the problem?

Isn’t the “standardization” and arbitrary rule generation for competitive Smash the same kind of scrubby behavior that we all get up in arms over with every other kind of fighting game?

Personally, I love the items and stages.

I think it comes down to how you view it. Smash players just really hate randomness, it seems. They prefer to think of smash as a game of skill, rather than on of chance. Of course, there are plenty of tournaments for games that do have luck factor in heavily (poker, or MTG for example…hell, theer are rock/paper/scissors tournaments!) so I don’t think randomness can’t work in a competative setting. Getting hit by an exploding capsule is no different than getting dealt a crappy hand.

Changing the custom options, of course, opens up the door for all sorts of things, like players calling for things to be banned when they’re beaten, and different organizations having different house rules.

I think a large part of the reason behind why it is this way is that the a large chunk of the smash scene is young (teens and so on), and younger players are often less willing to accept a random loss as “part of the game.”

In any case, I hope the community finds some way to embrace items and more stages in brawl. I only play casually anyway though, so it’s really not a big deal to me.

…seriously.

I like Items, too - I’m a big fan of Player Zero, AKA luck raining down on you from time to time to either help you out or hurt you. Well if this game goes online and I host any matches, items will be turned on. Gooey Bomb FTW! WHATCHYOUGONNADO WHEN GOOEYBOMBGETSSTUCKONYOOOOU!

Oh, I’ve only played Smash in friends’ houses but I use Adult Link mostly. Hands down my favorite Nintendo character. When the new one rolls around I will most def be playing with Pit, Kid Icarus was one of my favorite Nintendo games back in the day. Still hoping for Little Mac, Big Pig Ganon, Eggplant Wizard and King Hippo all of which I’ll use if they make the cut. Oh and I’ll use Zero Suit Samus once I figure out how to make her robo outfit fall off every time. :lovin:

Don’t get me wrong. Playing with items is somewhat fun…but from the moment I saw the Super moves, I said to myself that I’d rather not have those implemented into gameplay. Especially if they do those little cutscenes every single time.

Gooey Bomb? Tag anyone?

IMO the best side game is Super Sudden Death with only bombs on it’s very fun.
