Super Smash Bros. Brawl - Wii are very amused

Hardly news. Everyone in the world would like to see Sonic in Brawl. No surprise that this guy does too. Didn’t Iwata and Miyamoto already both say they’d like to see Sonic in SSBB? Why does the director of the secret rings even matter?

…seriously.

when is this game coming out?

RE: Pichu. I’d rather see him stay in and be differentiated further from Pikachu. THere’s a certain kind of draw about Pichu, and I’d rather see him buffed than axed.

Items and competitive play: I’m not taking a side in this, but someone asked how anyone could want items and comp play to mix. I could say that adjusting to the randomness that an item brings to the equation is part of the skill of winning. TCG games are highly competitive (ignore the nerdiness quotient for a minute) and the random factor is very prevalent. Back to 2D fighters, some games already have random elements (critical hits in Melty Blood/KoF, several of Faust’s moves from Guilty Gear, etc.). I don’t think “random” is a bad thing, and shouldn’t be immediately dismissed. That said, the game gives the option of playing with and without items, so people can choose whatever they like.

Sonic in Brawl: fuck Sega. A small part of me wants Sonic in Brawl, but with Sega’s recent and seemingly infinite shittiness, I’d rather avoid seeing anything Sega-related in the next Smash game. That said, if Sonic is in, I’ll still use 'im.

The luck in TCGs is part of what you plan around though, the meta-game is minimizing or maximizing luck to your potential. In Smash, items are a random number generator that can be partially influenced by the player but is still just that. Most of the issue is that the timing and placement of items is what makes them bad for competitive play, if people could control space accordingly to plan for the next item drop, there would be strategy involved, rather, whoever’s closer and not in a combo at that time usually gets the item that drops. There’s also the debate of “what item setting is best”, rather than arguing over that, one can simply disable items as a universal solution.

Randomness can work if it can be planned around.

What Nintendo should do is make a “Competitive Items” setting, in which items drop at specific locations at specific times, and only specific items deemed worthy of competitive play. Competitive mode should also disable a few stages (mostly ones like Ice Climbers and with “random” stage effects).

That’s coo, and I find myself agreeing with you. I didn’t think about the randonmess in a TCG being more a game of planned odds; you’re right, in Smash, it is truly random.

But meh, no worries. As long as the game comes out soon or we get more news, I’m happy.

Do any of you guys think that they might add renovations to the old characters as preview for how they might look in future Wii games?

I do… now…

I dunno. Judging from Melee, though that was the first time almost all of those characters appeared on Gamecube (except luigi), and very few of them ended up looking like their smash counterparts when their games came out.

I don’t think any of the Melee models were ever reused in any other Gamecube games.
Hell, even Luigi looked pretty different in Luigi’s Mansion from the way he looked in Melee.

On the other hand, there has been a lot of interest expressent over at nintendo about reviving Kid Icarus with Braw’s new Pit design (some talk even of Capcom converting it’s cancelled Gamecube exclusive, Dead Phoenix, into a new Kid Icarus) so anything’s possible.

…seriously.

This game beckons for Zelda/Sheik. It must happen!!!

Like many, I don’t really expect to see Shiek make a return. I’m sure Zelda will, but let’s face it, Shiek was only in 1 Zelda game, and therefore not very important to the series as a whole.

The tranforming mechanic is cool enough to keep, but I assume they’ll give that to Samus (hopefully as a taunt or something so she doesn’t lose a B move.)

I just hope they keep the ice climbers and don’t replace their “two-man” mechanic with a Diddy-Dixie team or something lame like that.

…seriously.

No kiddin. If Diddy and Dixie are in, they had better be by themselves and not as a team…

good sweet mother of GOD would they ever be broken. X_x
they’d be like Ice Climbers with Fox/Falco level rushdown.

well, If shiek does return they need to seriously tone her down, she is just out of control in melee. also, peach, her little spin move gotta get re-worked as well.

We all noticed zero suit samus using some sheik-esque moves in the second ssbb trailer. Even if Sheik doesn’t make an appearance in brawl, sheik users will most likely use ZS samus to keep us all annoyed

this will be the game that forces me to get a wii…go samus & solid snake!

New characters have the tendency to either be really broken or suck really badly. I hope they manage to find a balance between the two this time around.

SSB is prolly the best game franchise on earth today. While i agree about diddy kong needing to be playable i don’t think i like the idea of Sonic. Nothin against sonic but i’m a og nintendo head. Back when nintendo first came out it wuz mario vs. sonic and i’ve always been on mario’s side. I just don’t like the idea of sega characters makin their way into the nintendo gaming world. I wuz pretty pissed when i found out that RE4 would drop for the ps2 after nintendo had bought all the rights 2 the re franchise. If anyone needs to be on the game its Billy Cohen, Leon Scott Kennedy and Chris Redfield. Jill already had her spotlight… which wuz short lived once people learned 2 tech roll in marvel. But enuff bashin… SSBB is gon be the best game of the year with the most longevity, i mean, i still play SSBM and i still have fun playin it. Its a fact that these games never die. So samus w/o the suit might have a little more speed. If thats the case she’s gonna be top tier instead of mid tier just on account of her megablast. So in conclusion… if they put sonic in te game i’d be a lil irked, but i’m still gonna play the game til my face bleeds.

Smash Bros FOR THE WIN!!!

Does he really look good? Does anyone have a picture of him? I played the game a little but don’t care about it, at least for now.

Ugh.

…seriously.

Ugh indeed. :\
