Super Smash Bros. Brawl - Wii are very amused

I know nothing of SSBB except for the character roster…someone told me a while ago though that he played a demo of it at E3…was it playable there? He told me it was ass too.

Playable demo of it at the last E3? Hell no. They only released the trailer for the game at that time.

And yes, Mega Man probably has the best chance of being in the game moreso than any other Capcom character. Back in the old days when a bunch of “who would you add to SSB” topics, Mega Man came up quite a bit but too many people at the time thought he’d be a Samus ripoff. I can understand why but Nintendo is creative, they’ll find a way to make him original in spite of the fact that SSBM had “clone” characters.

The concept of patches make me uncomfortable, because in theory, a patch might do just as much harm as good.

The latter versions of Smash (especially PAL) fixed so many blatant problems in the NTSC 2.0 version, like the inability to meteor cancel Marth and Flaco’s d-air, Sheik’s awful d-throw chaingrab, and changed some characters’ weight to balance things out (i.e. making Bowser heavier and Fox lighter).

But HAL also took out some glitches in the latter revisions of Smash that some players came to rely on. Bowser’s flame-cancel–the ability to do an aerial neutral B and land with no lag–was pretty important for Bowser players. And eventually Samus’ ability to cancel her aerial grapple with her own bomb was taken out too.

I’m not necessarily against patches, but it’s just sad to see some useful glitches go in the process of balancing the game.

Well, every top tier was nerfed so losing flame cancel and grapple cancel aren’t as big of a deal, they can still compete without them. But it was a little excessive though. I know that Falco’s spike would only hit them down if he was descending in the air so that kinda limited its usefulness. As a result, a lot of his tactics and combos that utilized it were greatly affected. I mean, most of the time it’s used, the Falco is usually moving up instead of down.

If Fox was lighter in PAL, then I take it that he couldn’t be chain grabbed by Marth and Peach? Same with Falco?

I wouldn’t mind seeing Akuma in Brawl.

That’s just not going to happen, no matter how many people want it to though.

Like Sora and Master Chief. People on other forums actually make threads asking if they are confirmed for Brawl on other forums, ask in magazines, make articles about their ideas. It’s ridiculous.
I don’t want Smash Bros. to have more than 5 third-party characters. It just doesn’t seem right to me.

^ It’s funny how Nintendo is lenient in accepting one character who was requested to be in the game 4 years ago by another respected developer and people think it’s free reign to put any mediocre dream character in the game.

Master Chief?:wtf: GTFOH!!!

The ability to chaingrab is based on falling speed more than weight. IIRC, weight only affects the distance of horizontal knockback; hence Bowser’s weight allows him to survive nasty attacks like knees and chops.

With u-throw chaingrabbing, there’s really no horizontal vector involved, so the only thing affecting it is falling speed. And since Fox/Flaco’s falling speed is the same in NTSC and PAL (as far as I know), Marth and Peach should be able to chaingrab as effectively as they usually do.

I wonder if Peach was toned down any in PAL because she had some pretty dumb shit too. Jab? That thing beats everything under the sun and it hit behind her. Down smash is a no brainer. Assloads of priority on like every single move. Plus she had no lag from her up+B when she fast fell it which was dumb too because everyone else had tons of lag upon landing from their up+Bs. Did I mention that it’s invincible on the way up and is impenetrable from above? Even Marth, who has the most range on every attack, couldn’t penetrate it with his dair, which is a disjoint hitbox. Blah!

Not to mention that her arms are also complete disjointed hitboxes as well.

Personally the only thing I really disliked about Peach (apart from D Smash) is the fact that her turnips are random (and the super turnips do 30+% plus super knockback). I hate when they add luck-based stuff on such a spammable attack. :bluu:

Yeah, adding no lag to an up+B to the character who had the BEST recovery in the game was just too much. Her D smash was punishable by wave dashing out of your shield and throwing but the window of opportunity is VERY small. And if your character’s wave dash didn’t go any far then you couldn’t really do anything. Not to mention it crushed shields easily. If you’re every shielding right next to her when she D smashes, chances are you won’t survive and you’ll get hit. Did you ever wonder why when Peach D smashed the Ice Climbers they both got sent in OPPOSITE directions regardless of which side they were on before they got hit? Yeah that was programming error. That’s why in a typical Peach vs Ice Climbers match, you’ll see a lot of D smash spam.

And the turnips bothered me too. They’re the ideal edge guard projectile. I always wondered why they hit you away from the stage when Link’s bombs knock you up. Since when did a turnip have more push back force than a bomb? <.< I don’t care if she could only pull them out when she’s on the ground, that’s moot when you’re edge guarding. I also hated how the turnips could produce Aegis Reflector like results because when it bounces off your shield, it can STILL hit you. I can’t count how many times it bounces off my shield, I jump to meet her in the air with an attack and the turnip hits me on the way down (towards her) which leads to me getting smacked shortly after. I don’t really hate Peach, it’s just that she’s fucking annoying because she has a lot of stuff going for her that theoretically shouldn’t work.

Any news to when SSBB will be released in the U.S.?
I heard sometime in May 07 & will be released Dec. 31, 06 in Japan.

No word on a US release date. In fact, there’s been no word on a Japanese release date either. That Dec. 31st 2006 release date is completely baseless, as the man in charge of the game, Sakurai, has explicitly stated in his blog that he’ll reveal more info about the game in 2007, when it will be “further along” in development.

…seriously.

Mega Man turns 20 next year. Would be a hell a sweet way for him to celebrate it by being in Brawl heh heh!

BUMP! No I have no new news on this game…

I’d expect to see Brawl maybe around summer or at the end of 2007.

I am thinking they are probably taking their time with either trying make it work on the Wii controller (god help us all if they make it exclusively work with the Wii like they did the Wii version of TP) or trying to bring it online. I expect it to be online, since Brawl is a major system mover for the Wii and if they are putting Pokemon online, they could at least try Smash Bros.

Still I hope everyone prays with me over Nintendo not fucking up the controls.

It has already been released that the gamecube controller will be used for SSBB. So I assume most of the controls will remain the same.

Man stop hating Peach, she’s lucky she has that shit going for so that she can actually stand a chance, because everyone else above her is just flat out retarded.

Above her? There isn’t much “above” her anyways, beside Fox and Falco and she ca take care of them quite well.

Actually, a good fox can cause quite a few problems for peach. And sheik/marth both cause tough matchups for peach, so she needs the cheap stuff.
