I would like to point out that I do at least have a little respect for the top Smash players since the game has a high degree of execution needed and the terrible Gamecube controller certainly doesn’t help matters.
SSB64 tiers have been fairly consistent for years (Pika/Kirby/Fox/CF/Ness have been broken since day one), long before SSBM even debuted. Unless the tiers were different in 1998 when the game was in its infancy I find it hard to believe Yoshi was considered tops in any way, shape or form.
Hm… seems that bulky characters in Brawl have some kind of super armor (at least Bowser will), I think that might be an attempt at balancing. Power, priority and attacking speed haven’t been confirmed in any way so here’s to hoping!
Oh and DK wasn’t tops but he was still playable.
Smash has been a good tournament game for years, the rules have been defined and explained a zillion times on why they exist. I’m sure if items are allowed there will be a tier for characters when they use a certain item or some way a character can abuse an item regardless of how they were maintained. I don’t see Brawl being any different if items are allowed- which I feel is worth a try. (hopes they don’t have exploding capsules in Brawl)
I thought WiFi was one of the main selling points of the Wii? But I guess that’s not my problem. =/
I love to see people hate on smash because they either dont understand it, are bad at it… or have horrible misconceptions about how the game is played in tournaments.
Its also funny when people like Justin Wong totally respect smash for being the tourny worthy and amazing fighting game that it is.
I mean, the SF community is so quick to point out scrub mentality when it comes to capcom fighters… yet those same people turn around and act like total scrubs about smash.
These people have never actually gotten good at the game themselves, and prematurely analyze it based on their low level of play. Its just like if I turned around and went " Marvel sucks, its all about bajillion hit combos and boring characters like Magneto and Cable…", its total scrubiness.
There are really soo many things I could begin correcting/informing people on, but I barely even know where to start…
First off: In tournament play its not only Final Destination.
There are 6 neutral tournament stages which go on random.
Battlefield, Final Destination, Yoshi’s Island, Fountain of Dreams, Pokemon stadium and Kirby’s dreamland 64.
Besides these stages there are about 6 others you can counterpick people to.
i found some of the speculative candidates pretty interesting…Lucario looks kinda cool and i didn’t know that the same people who made M & L: super star saga did a game for Demille first…and did that lil rabbit just summon a train!? wtf!? if he’s in i’m already calling that for his final smash. I actually am all for them putting in the duck hunt dog…I got some unfinished business with him since 1987.
it’s about fighting to stay on the stage and it’s about getting the kill (taking the stock). there are two ways to get the kill:
your almost traditional way of beating your opponent, keep hitting them, making their percentage high enough to knock them out of the screen and
the other way, ring out (defeating all your opponents attempts to recover and keeping them from returning to the stage).
ring outs can take a bit of time and effort or they can be quick (and in some ways are quite creative). if the quickness of KO isn’t your ideal perception of a “good, fair fight”, then smash is not for you. it happens a lot and it is the very nature of the game: do not let your opponent back on the stage.
one example said before is shine spike. it’s understandable that it might seem gay to lose a stock by getting shine spiked at low percent, but most tournies play with 4 stock so just think that you still have 3 more chances and try not to fall for that setup again.
That’s funny because I’ve seen Isai play in countless matches and spoken with him many times and he exclaims Pikachu and Fox has his high tier mains (although he can kick ass with really anyone). Secondly, are you sure he said that in that context? If he said anything about Ness and Kirby being top (generally considered to be a dark horse) Pikachu would definitely be mentioned.
Pikachu literally doesn’t have any true counter characters, has the best recovery, insane combos, priority and speed. The only characters that really can keep up with him on a fair level are combo artists like Ness, CF and Fox who can juggle him extremely well.
He could’ve probably meant in terms of technicality because technically a perfect player with Fox in SSBM could defeat every character in the game. A perfect player using DJC could technically beat everyone in SSB64 since the headbutt priority is insane and easily racks up damage. Ness’ slow and awkward recovery is what weakens him by a wide margin because any intermediate player will intercept his PK Thunder.
Well it seems like they are at least thinking about that with the no-flinch frames on the heavier characters now.
Snake actually does haver the potential of being good. His projectile could be one of his best smash bros has ever seen. If it keeps its direction and doesn’t explode on cancel and even has decent knockback it could be crazy. His recovery looks okay and he seems to be a character. He really doesn’t seem that slow (at least in the air), and he is probably gonna be a character with some no-flitch frames. I don’t think there is enough information to really decide anything about what tier he is yet…
well last week was full of awesomeness…so i’m gonna keep my expectations low this week…however…the update is a tad off right now…so here’s hoping they start this week off with a bang
Edit:…well well well!!!..i’m definitely seeing some potential with the plasma wire…maybe an up smash…followed by it to bring the person back down? ‘GET DOWN HERE!!!’
