Super Smash Bros. Brawl - Wii are very amused

The only awesome thing about the vid is-is that there is still more to learn.

A perfect control match would be the shit! A match so perfect, I can have that drive to get better again… Probably won’t happen, but still

The lack of SSBB updates isn’t what I had in mind. Where the updates at? ;/

i’m probably going to get a nintendo wii only because the ps3 is going to be SO EXPENSIVE >.<

but i dont plan on getting serious into brawl unless they throw in an amazingly cool character… COUGH >>

Guyver? They already said no manga characters, not a chance.

damn >< they fear the Guyver!

so… cant be arsed to read the whole thread. has sonic been confirmed?

Yes, and Dr Robotnik, and Gumby.

i found another character!!! NEWCOMER

You know…with all the loving on the Wii that SNK’s been doing…do ya figure we may end up seeing Kyo thrown into the mix? Hmm…

TERRY BOGARD FTW!!!

That’d be something. Of all the many characters thrown in a Nintendo game, some of it would just happen to be SNK.\

Edit: Say, are they still keeping physics abusing elements like wave dashing in?

Depends. From what Sakurai said there are not gonna be that many third party characters, mabye one or two. While we don’t have exact numbers here this kind of means that these slots are going to go to the bigger companies, like Sega, Namco, Square Enix, and Capcom. These are all companies Nintendo has worked with in the past too, which also increases their chances. There might be a few more companies but those seem to be the biggest contenders. Maybe Konami too if Nintendo allows more than one character per company, but I dunno, “maybe one or two” just gives me the impression that it’s only gonna be one per company.

But in the Tips & Tricks article I posted above, it seems like they want third party support so if SNKP approached them, maybe begged them like Kojima did) there’s a chance, at least according to that article, not going by what Sakurai said.

Still, Kyo doesn’t have that many appearances on Nintendo consoles as far as I know, his only Nintendo appearances that I can think of are on Gameboy games, KOF EX Howling Blood and KOF EX Neo Blood(Two games that even SNKP doesn’t seem to acknowledge too much, none of the original EX characters made their fan poll, anniversary website, or even Falcoon’s huge “We are the KOF Generation” 2005 poster). Kyo’s also in CVS2 but they couldn’t reference that since it’s mostly a Capcom game. He will be in SNK Card Fighters Clash for the DS, but as a card so that’s not the same. Kyo really doesn’t represent Nintendo too much not being on that many Nintendo systems. At least Solid Snake got his start on the NES, the same can’t be said for Kyo. Though Kyo has been on Nintendo consoles before with the GBA so he gets by on that rule(to restate, those are the two rules for getting in this game stated by Sakurai, no manga characters and the character has to of appeared on a Nintendo console once).

Kyo definitly has the fan base for it in Japan.

In the GBA games, Kyo wore his Nests storyline outfit, the cross jacket. Not that it would mean he would wear that outfit in Smash Bros, as Solid Snake is wearing his MGS1 clothes but just to throw that out there, his Nests outfit has a slightly higher chance.

But I can’t predict the future so who knows if Kyo will get in. I will say I think it’s doubtful if Kyo made the cut. For SNKP, Goddess Athena might have a better shot though since she definitly would have the history for it being on NES way back in 1987(maybe not the same fan base as Kyo but still). No 2D Fighting game characters made the character suggestion poll, of course that might not mean anything so take it as you will.

About Sonic -

Sonic has not been confirmed yet… I’m sure/when if that happens the internet will break in half, even secluded Tibet Monks up in the high mountains will hear about it… you won’t even need to read this thread to find out about it, trust me…

Honestly, if any SNK characters have the probability of getting into a Smash Bros, it will be among those that the Nintendo fanbase would have had a chance to really get to care about over the years. That basically means the likes of Athena, the Ikari Warriors, the Metal Slug dudes, Terry Bogard and that dude from Crystalis, more or less. Kyo just doesn’t seem to have that same type of apeal as these other, much more old school characters. Hell, even the likes of the “King of the Monsters” and or “World Heroes” cast would probably be more recognizable (and possibly more welcomed) than Kyo Kusanagi or the other KOF-originating dudes would be, just because these other characters were much more notable on the Nintendo consoles back in the day.

I mean, it’s the same type of argument for why some characters like Cloud, Auron and Sephiroth don’t have as much of a chance of getting into Brawl as say, a Black Mage, Red Mage, Sabin, and/or Terra. Personal popularity not withstanding, the latter characters are the ones that have the most universal/Nintendo-oldschool adhering vibes about them. And that’s what SSB has been all about, ain’t it?

Snake isn’t wearing his MGS1 clothes, he’s wearing his sneaking suit from MGS2 (which was on XBOX and PS2, but never on a Nintendo system) and his facial hair is circa Snake Eater (also never been on Nintendo platforms)

EDIT:Also, though Metal Gear was ported to the NES, Solid Snake technically got his start on the MSX home computer system. But really, Metal Gear was made popular by the NES version, so Snake first made it big on NES. The same can be said about Castlevania which also technically began on the MSX, but hit it big on NES.

And as I recall, the rule that Sakurai stated was that the character had to have appeared on a Nintendo platform (and I imagine this would mean in some large capacity --the GBC tomb raider doesn’t count --it would have to be a major contribution to the series) and had to be a videogame character primarily (i.e. no Manga, Star Wars, licensed chars, etc.) This means that a lot of 3rd party characters are already eliminated. (Dante, Cloud, Lara Croft, John Madden, etc.)

EDIT:I wouldn’t expect to see another Konami character. Sadly, Castlevania, Konami’s other big series that would be a prime candidate doesn’t really have a definable main character. Simon Belmont? What the hell does he even look like? He’s been blond, black-haired, blue-haired and a redhead, and has been depicted wearing anything from bronze armor to leather S & M gear. Soma Cruz is cool but hardly “classic”. the best candidtae I suppose would be Alucard…but he’s hardly a recognizeable face. Put Solid Snake on the box and people will see it and go OMFG! Solid Snake! Put Alucard on the box and people will be all “Who’s the emo vampire guy?”

…seriously.

Heh, Cloud’s only appearance on a Nintendo console is in Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories as an assist character and Sephiroth has never had an appearance on a Nintendo console. So Cloud isn’t likely and Sephiroth gets a big fat no.

EDIT: Ah, Givequicheachance beat me to it. Thanks for the Solid Snake clothing clear up.

Hey get this. At least according to Wikipedia Solid Snake was supposed to appear on Captain N.

“Solid Snake from the Metal Gear series was planned to be in but due to the lethal weapons and violent lasers he uses, he was removed.”

Freaky…

Well, I’m just thinking that Kyo may appear because SNK’s been debating which console they should go with next generation. And let’s be honest. Smash Bros MAKES gaming series. Loads of people didn’t know wtf Fire Emblem or Earthbound was before we saw Ness and Marth show up. Now look at em!

If SNK decided they were gonna go with the Wii next-gen, and poked at Nintendo to throw in Kyo (I just say Kyo cuz KOF is SNK’s main series, and he’s just better than K or Ash) then KOF would become a mainstream game, at least for a couple games. And SNK would make LOADS of money.

As for Givequiche, the same thing could be said for Fire Emblem. There is no defined lead. But the thing is, they’d pick who would be most advantageous to the company at the time (like how they threw in Roy to promote Seisen no Keifu). So, they’d probably toss in the guy and/or girl from Portrait of Ruin. Though they may toss in Soma, since he’s like…the only recurring character. And was pretty damn popular to boot.

Havent been in this thread in a while, can someone give me an updated roster so far?

There really hasn’t been any updates…

Okay but the roster has not changed since last time -

Kirby (Kirby)
Link (The Legend of Zelda)
Mario (Super Mario Bros.)
Meta Knight (Kirby)
Pikachu (Pokemon)
Pit (Kid Icarus)
Samus Aran (Metroid)
Solid Snake (Metal Gear)
Wario (Wario World/Land)

Samus Aran will have the ability to lose her outfit in battle becoming Zero Suit Samus, but she’s still only one character.

RE: Simon Belmont - I’m kind of sure Konami is going by his last redesign by Ayami Kojima used for the last Castlevania 1 remake Castlevania Chronicles, they go with her designs for everybody. Her Castlevania Symphony of the Night character designs quickly overturned all of the artwork you saw in Dracula X. Anyway, he has red hair now, I think…

Current Simon Belmont -

EDIT: So, anyone play Dream TV? What did Simon Belmont look like in that? That would be his latest video game appearance and all…

The creator has gone on record saying that he wont be releasing any new information until the game starts to take a more solidified form, probably around next year.

So I think you guys should just clench your butt cheeks for a while.
