The Koopa Kid/Ice Climbers interview seems a little fishy to me too. It seems like someone took a bunch of things Sakurai said on the comment board, compiled it into an interview, somehow decided to increase the roster from what the comment board hinted at, picked up a few characters mentioned on the comment board and took it onto themselves to take the statment “Some characters will not be returning” to remove characters they didn’t want in the game. Stuff like this happens on the internet all of the time.
Oh yeah, off the comment board both Ganon and Medusa(of Kid Icarus) were on Captain N too in case I forgot to say it before.
“Geno’s cameo was in Superstar Saga, not Partners in Time. And no, they’re not confused. They specifically credited Square Enix with owning Geno in the credits to the game.”
They could just as easily hook SE with the Geno credit in SSBB if they wanted. Also see: Capcom crediting Moto Kikaku in every game Strider makes an appearence. I doubt Nintendo would spend cash to put a Geno cameo in Superstar Saga, so it was probably free of charge to them. Considering that the characters that fans have been clamoring for since even before Melee arrived (Pit, Metaknight, Wario were all mentioned very often), I wouldn’t be surprised to see Geno.
Not that I care too much either way about him. Booster > Geno.
I would. Superstar Saga didn’t make enough money to equal even 1% of what Brawl will pull in. Square didn’t do anything because firstly, they were asked beforehand; the credits deal was just a additional thank you. And secondly, the game didnt make squat. You can bet your ass if they tried to put Geno in Brawl, there would be a huge suit, because Brawl will make a shitload of money. The only way he is getting in is through royalties.
I don’t know if it’s a money thing but the Strider / Moto Kikaku / Capcom ordeal is pretty complex. Capcom went to that manga company to create the character for them as a manga and they went and made a video game of it. Though I suppose their relationship is good and all since they inserted Strider in Ken’s stage in SFZ2 without crediting the company. Even Namco x Capcom had to credit Moto Kikaku.
Rey of Studio Udon mentioned that he wanted to do a Strider comic, but Erik Ko (Udoneko) told him that Strider was the most complicated license that Capcom had.
I don’t see how Sqeenix would have a problem lending out Geno if that’s what Nintendo wanted. Even if it’s a money thing Nintendo of Japan is freaking loaded, they should be able to reach some kind of agreement.
(in the Japanese version of Ice Climber you get to whack baby seals with your mallet. Due to political correctness (yeah, seal clubbing was a big no-no in the “save-the-whales” '80s) we got those stupid sheep-looking things instead.
I wholeheartedly agree though. Seal Clubbers are one of the coolest characters in the game.
I would like capcom and square-enix to join also. I wouldnt mind seeing someone like Frog or Robo in Smash brothers. Or Sage from Dragon Quest, or Jessica.
Make sure y’all get your recommendations in before the ninth.
So far, I’ve recommended Sonic like five times under different names from different IP addresses, Captain N almost as many times, Lloyd and Sheena (Symphonia; GC RPG), Pichu (I really hope he isn’t cut  ), Terra, and a better scoring system for time matches that more resembles a FPS.
I sure do hope Sakurai is reading the English suggestions… :nunchuck:
I’ve read on several sites that the interview is fake, it was a joke that got out of hand. After what you saw in E3, no character has been added to the roster officially, no character has been removed officially.
