what the FUCK Sakurai?! Seriously, this update really pissed me off. It will just discourage me if a character that i wanted incredibly badly to be a playable character gets used as a stupid fucking assist trophy bullshit.** If he had the POWER TO USE CHARACTERS, WHY NOT JUST GO ALL THE WAY AND MAKE THEM PLAYABLE?!?? Fucking hell, this really rubs me the wrong way. It’s basically Pokemon, but with a stupid, discouraging, really dream shattering way. Goddamnit, Now even characters that had a good chance at becoming playables (i.e. someone like krystal/star wolf) will just have a stupid fucking cameo assit bullshit, possible. All new characters have no been put the “ASSIST TROPHY” LADDER, so now it’s even more complicated if a popular character gets the stupid fucking assist trophy treatment.

Oh come on BlodiaVulcan5, it’s not like he has room in the roster for a billion characters. I say a cameo as an assist is better than no appearance at all. Besides, they can probably make like 50 assists in the time it takes to make 1 character.
I wasn’t sure before that Elite Beat Agents would even be in the game in any form, now I feel like I’ll at least get to see them as an assist trophy if nothing else.

a cameo assist is worse than not being there at all. it’s a tease, “lolskates, we’ve decided not to make this character player but instead be in the background and with some random loopin animation, hayuck!” ~ what snk/capcom says for the snk vs. capcom series. >:( It’s pretty terrible when you know they could’ve went all the way, but isntead stuck them in the background as filler, in this case as a random item. There will always be that mentality in the back of alot of people’s minds, “what if he was actually playable?! damn…” >:(

I disagree. Like Quiche said, you can’t have a billion playable characters. There’d be no balancing at all. Better to have them in there in some form than not have em at all.
And yeah, I thought Samurai Goro was playable at first, too.
No I see goro and I got geeked but I see the item symbol it destroyed me. Also what some of Bloodia said. Some characters that would be hot in the game as assists NO. Also first and foremost I’m looking for crap that will be played tourney wise. I feel alittle disappointed.
BUT overall I can’t complain about it fun factor wise. Beating my brother and cousins down with goro is all good.
As long as Little Mac isn’t an assist, I don’t care what characters get the assist treatment. Here’s something to think about: any characters that get cut could become an AT.

It’s funny because this is pretty much what they did to Wario in Melee, he had all the attacks and everything but they made him into a trophy.
With this new development I’ll probably only end up with a Paperboy and Ridley trophy now. :crybaby:
I can kinda see Blodia’s position on this. Now you KNOW there’s gonna be some awesome guy that gets put as an assist trophy while a less worthy character makes the actual game. And everbody will go “WHAT THE FUCK, why isn’t this guy actually playable?!”

I really don’t mind if only some characters can make it as an assist. Shit, I’ve been playing jump superstars/ultimate stars and Trunks still isn’t a playable character… but his assist is fuckin’ beastly. 'Can’t complain.
My only gripe is that you won’t ever know what assist you’re using, so it’s still all random.
I’d prefer if they’d let you choose one assist along with your character and set it to the taunt button. Have it so you can set how many times you can use an assist per match (for balancing issues) and we could’ve seen some more interesting matchups.
I’m assuming as you get more trophies (the way you do in melee), most of them will be unlocked as assist trophies as well.
