You have to CHANGE the way you play a BRAND NEW GAME!?!?
Jesus… and all this time i was playing 3rd Strike as if it were New Generation, and CvS2 as if it were CvS1, and Super Turbo as if it were World Warriors, and Tekken 5 DR as if it was Tekken 1, AND YOU ARE RETARDED.
Why would ANYONE expect the NEW game the be the SAME?
Moreover, why would ANYONE WANT that?
Sorry about the nasty reply, but I hope some of you never get into game design. Things would be even more stagnant than they are now. /sickened
That sounds like a personal problem. If you do play competitively you should come to the conclusion that you do not need it. It was a very good addition to the gameplay. But if you based your game on wavedashing alone uhh wow just keep playing Melee that’s all I can tell ya. This has been beaten to death.
i always thought smash was popular cuz it was very easy to play with no tech skill needed.
now i know it’s popular cuz people like to fight as nintendo characters or something cuz this game is harder to play than ggxxac…and i say that as an eddie player…
the difference in performing tilts and smashes is just so clunky and unfriendly and JUST PLAIN STUPID.
if you wanna be able to do utilts instead of usmashes 100% even in tense tournament matches, it requaires ALOT of practicing. from my experience when i’m nervous its as hard as doing a just frame, and that’s just the basics…lets not talk about other stuff needed to be competitive.
and even in accent core some characters are way easier than others, and “the hard stuff” add to your game but not that much (eddie can do just fine w/o his just frames and doing easier yet still damaging combos). but in smash the the hard stuff are the basic of the basics with every character.
it aint that hard. you just started too late if you did. lol you’d have to be playing it right from the beginning unless of course your a prodigy like korean dj. who I heard from my friend played SF and MBAC i think but he might have been pullin my leg.
doing a smash is easy, doing a tilt w/o getting a smash or w/o having the direction already pressed beforehand is hard.
and if smash requires so much practice and getting used to, what adventage does it have over other fighting games?
Thats weird because i find games like 3rd Strike harder then Smash but maybe it’s because ive been playing competive for 2 years. L-canceling and wavedashing is really just muscle memory. Before you know it youll be doing it without even thinking. Now i’m gonna have to get use to playing without that shit but I’m looking forward to it
Edit: G.O.T, there some videos of KDJ playing MBAC on Youtube. Ive seen them around
is that really a serious question? Can you not tell just from playing the game how much different it is from other fighting games? I think anybody that has spent a minute with smash can tell how different it is from other fighting games.
Or perhaps you want to know how can someone play smash in the first place. Well to answer that question you have to answer the even more ridiculous question, why is smash bros fun? And of course the concept of fun is totally subjective so you might as well stay out of the thread if you want someone to justify why they play a game to you.
It is the human condition to be eternally unsatsified.
(P.S. I have to agree with tataki that tilts are harder than they should be, but that’s to be expected, especially under pressure, due to the severe amount of overlap these games have.)
yes it is.
learning to perform QCF and DP motions is something that you will use in almost every 2d fighter. even for games that will come out in the future. so you are actually raising your ability in so many games w/o even playing them! that is a good reward for your “1 time” time investment!
but what do you get from getting used to smash controls? besides being able to finally play smash, nothing.
it sounds like a stupid thing to complain about but is it really?
why not just have smash support more standard controls as well? (a button for tilts and a different button for smashes or a combination of buttons will be a welcomed idea)
or just making smash as easy and friendly as it can get?
why not let everyone the ability to jump into the game and start having the fun right away?
this is smash we are talking about. its not like guilty gear a game that is 'tailored for hardcore pros" so why does it have to be hard like one?
Are you seriously proposing that all fighting games should be rehashes? What about VF5? that game doesn’t play like SF and it’s leaps and bounds above other 3D games. Should no one play VF5 because there’s no other game as good as it that has similar inputs? Your argument of, a game isn’t worth playing if it doesn’t let you learn other games is just flat out ridiculous. I’m sorry you play GG and it has to piggyback on other tournies and scenes but smash has a very strong, independent community and smash inputs not transferring to other games isn’t even a subject of concern.
Furthermore, you assume that technical ability is what separates good players but I argue that that being able to do a DP is not what separates good players from scrubs. Far from it, a good player knows about spacing, priority and anticipation. Someone that plays smash can learn all these things.
Let’s end it. Who wants to see Ludwig Von Koopa as a unlockable, or Morton Koopa? huh whats the deal? We need more koopas as playable characters. I already have a koopa clan ready for Brawl with like 6 other people. lol. All we will be playing as Falcon, Snake, Dedede, or Bowser. Mainly just Bowser though.
All I know is that for every Melee “Vet” we lose there will be 10 new Smash Brawl players who will play this game competitively. This will be even better because it might bring some fresh playing styles and uncover new innovations that were never explored in Melee.
