yes,this will make the community better
This is actually funny because I do plan on getting into game design, but don’t worry I wasn’t actually serious with my statement.
Don’t know if its been posted yet,but here is some first hand impressions from Killa Or a former Smash Bros player that got lucky I guess:
http://www.mlgpro.com/?q=node/168229
*Overall Gameplay is slower than Melee
*No wavedashing(Means Fox can’t do his waveshine anymore,so he’s probably nerfed in that aspect,but otherwise he is fine)
*Sonic is faster than Fox,and has alot of tap moves that rack up quick damage.The way he described him,sounds like Sonic will be a pretty top rated character
*Zero Suit Samus plays similar to Sheik.In tournament play if final smashes are turned off,one character is effectively removed from the game
*Pikachu’s side B,and up B are faster
May have missed some stuff,but its a nice video.
EDIT
Aw fuck,I went back and this has been posted already.Damn you guys are fast

Wow…are people really complaining that performing a tilt attack in Smash is difficult? Wow.
There are some difficult things in Smash, and tilting sure as hell isn’t one of them.
I thought it was hard to do too initially.
I found tilt attacking during battle harder to do,than some of the stuff smasher claim to be on the more advanced level,just because you can’t be as rough with the stick(no homo)as you are attacking,but if you are under fire that isn’t what is immediately on your mind
yeah, i feel all of you guys on tilting being a pain, since if your in a hurry to do a tilt attack, shiek’s side A comes to mind, you get a smash attack sometimes.
it was worse on my n64 because my analog stick got incredibly flimsy so it mad things hard to control.
also, whats you guys ideas on gamecube controller. If always used a wavebird, because of the size and weight, and had no problems with input or anything when i play, but if i could get the reliability of a cord, with the weight and stuff, man, for me that would be heaven.
Tilting was actually hard for me to grasp initially, especially in the first game. I barely if ever did it while playing the game because at least from my POV tilts weren’t anywhere near as useful as they were for melee…So when melee came around i had no choice but to calm myself and learn how to do tilts and instead of fidgeting and panicing. However, me not using tilts back during the first smash may have also had to do with the people i played with so i don’t know how exactly ‘high tier’ smash bros. was played back then…cause i was still oblivious to strategies and what not and played using pure instinct.
I agree. Tilting is needlessly difficult. Adding another attack button would have made the game 1000000x more accessable.
B = special
A = smash
X = tilt
Well since three of the four different control schemes for Brawl require you to use a D-pad, I wonder if tilting will be included at all in Brawl, tilting with a D-pad would be incredibly hard.
So much for basic information being “worthless”.
Anyway, I think that the above two videos have been first two that I’ve ever watched where it’s just a person talking. Weird considering how much of my time I spent on the computer/Internet.
Tilting is still in Brawl. As far as I know, tilts will be done with d-pad + button 2, smashes are done with d-pad + button 1 + button 2. Specials (ie. B moves in melee) will be done with d-pad + button 1.
I think that for most people who want to play the game seriously, it’d be best to invest in either a Gamecube or classic controller. I’m not sure if using the nunchuku will make the Wiimote that much more viable an option. I’d imagine that it would still take more time to get used to than either the Cube or classic controller.
Thanks. It’s a good thing I kept all my GC controllers because I don’t like the layout of the Wii remote for tilts and smashes.
those taunts…have brought a tear to my eye
those are such beautiful screenshots, man, Fox is over 9000, Ike is too epic for words, and the Sonic one man, they really went super well with how the characters are animated.
Dedede taunting with “right back at ya”…the reference is too good…
aaand, snake in a box, let the fun begin
SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNnAAAAAAAAAAAaKKKKKKKKKKEEEEEEEEEE!!! lol
SNAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAKE!!!
made me fall out of my seat
To whomever said that tilting was hard in Smash, I’m laughing right now–not because of your situation, but because I’m coming from the completely opposite perspective (Smash is my first competitive fighter), and learning GGXX^C is impossible compared to Smash.
I mean. . .I have no problem wavedashing, tilting, drillshining, doing double-aerials in one short hop, edgeteching or meteor cancelling. But FRCs on Bridget’s Starship? Doing consistent clean hit Sidewinder loops or FRC Gunflame rushdown? Spacing yo-yo traps into gatling + 4HSR corner lockdown? This stuff makes absolutely no sense to me whatsoever.
I think it’s just that Smash is so unconventional, from the input design to the game mechanics to the physics system, that it’s confusing you or difficult to adapt to. Obviously, some basic things stay the same (infinites, rushdown, spacing/poking/zoning, lockdown, oki) but the game is so unconventional that it’s simply throwing you off. . .the game mechanics itself isn’t that hard.
Personally, doing DPs and HCFs or QCF and supers and mixup/crossover is difficult for me. . .but again, that’s because I’ve never played anything like that before, since Smash is so different.
YES! Link got his old 64 taunt back!:woot:
Fox is definitely channeling the spirit of Vegeta! Over 9000 indeed!
“SNAAAAAAAAAAKE!!!”
“Right Back At Ya!” I hope King Dedede doesn’t come with a Texan accent in the US version.
I saw that too and i was like YES!!! It’s also awesome that they put his pose from twilight princess in as well…I loved doing that after finishing off enemies cause it just oozed of bad ass. This update made me smile…even if it wasn’t another character or something that big. Enjoy the View!?.. god man we’re gonna be having way too much fun with these taunts. So i’m guessing Snake only gets in the box as a taunt…i wonder if he’ll be able to move around afterwards…Sakurai is indeed silly lol. I’m surprised nobody has said anything about Zero Suit Samus yet…I say all they need to give her now is a pole. >.> <.< And It’s way too easy to see Fox with a bubble that says ‘over 9000!!!’ for that taunt.
Sonic:…‘Gotta speed keeed’ or ‘Did I do thaaaatt?’
Edit:
DeDeDe: I NEED A MONSTA TO CLAW DAT KIRBEH!
Personally I found tilting even harder to do in Melee than 64, since the engine already had this watery response in attacks, so when you try to hit confirm or short hop you had to gentle and quick rather than just acting on impulse.
Another thing I hated was the fact that some tilts did auto-aim and switched ranges depending on how far you were from you opponent. This sucks because some characters like Gannon and Samus have really good forward tilts and seeing them randomly turn into some retarded swivel kick ticked me off since the range and priority is reduced significantly.
That’s another thing I hope they change in Brawl
