Super Smash Bros. Brawl thread v2. wii want it now

Anyone else gonna argue about replay value and bang for your buck?

What worries me, just slightly though, is that… what if he focused too much on “Extra” stuff and that made some other things suffer (like balance maybe)? Like this mini-game thing, for example. Could we have done without it? Absolutely 100%, but he did it anyway. Did this take development away from other things? Don’t know, it’s a possibility.

oh well. w/e. Random Online Match Coin Gambling just got it’s money sink = Trophy Shmump!

Brawl sounds like you’ll be playing this game forever…that is until the new one comes out of course. We’ve got a lil over 100 in reserves…not as big as halo still but i’m hoping for that to change in the next month…wonder how the other stores are doing.

Can’t have a vice without something feeding the addiction. But that is a great concept. And Coin Launcher is just as much a gamble as Brawl Horse Fighting. So don’t be suprised if somebody on your friend list is begging for change so they can get their Coin Launcher fix. “Im gonna have you play every inch of this game!” Damn right, Sakurai. Gotta give props to him. This is a fun way to keep players entertained even if they aren’t engaged in fights. Updates are back on a beautiful upswing.

I really like the Coin Launcher minigame. I wonder if there will be bosses.

A game like Smash is never going to be balanced, NEVER! The most you can hope for is that no character will be broken. But hey if the patch theory holds true…

lol I imagine people going into Spectator Mode and going to sleep to gain coins. Go to Spring Break and leave Spectator Mode on for the week for a bazillion coins!

My mind just went, “Holy crap,” for the first time in ages.

Something tells me any other game that I buy before Brawl is going to be collecting dust after this game comes out. Insanity.

Haha…make the money work for you…

See, now this is one update that I can appreciate. There’s no better way to a geek’s heart than throwing a shmup into a fighting game. Unless you throw in a Falcon update sometime soon.

Considering all these modes and extras, there’s one thing that I can be sure of: when Brawl comes out, I’ll be doing nothing but smashing for a good 2 weeks straight. Now, hopefully the game will be balanced, or at least have decent mechanics.

I wouldn’t be but so worried.

First of all, Sakurai and his bunch have had upwards of like 3 years, up to now, to work on this game. That’s longer than most games have had to work with, so I would think that would be more than enough to craft a good gameplay engine, balance out the characters as humanly possible and then add on some good fringe benefits just for the hell of it.

Besides, Sakurai is pretty darn close to one who echoes Miyamoto’s philosophy on games. He wouldn’t do any thing half-assed, and he definitely won’t release a game on his watch without it being as perfect as it can be.

I dunno…

Regardless of whether a new game comes out eventually or not, at this point, I’m hard-pressed to think of how Sakurai, or any one else, for that matter, will be able to out-do the kind of package deal we stand to get this time. Hell, who even knows if Nintendo can even get Sakurai on lock, so that maybe he’ll do a sequel in another 4-5 years? That’s probably why he’s made sure he stuck his thumb in this one.

But, eh, who cares. This game, like its predecessor, is probably going to be the best selling game on the Wii ever. I some times wonder if G4 is going to devote a weekend to the Smash Bros. launch, like they did with Halo 3…but some how…I doubt it.

I seem to be the only one that finds the shooter coin thing annoying it seems lol. I was never good at arcadey shooters, and I like collecting the trophies and I will probably do the same for the stickers, but now I got to work for it even more =/

Cool, something else I’ll never even hover over on the menu screen. Great update!

Instead of waisting development time on needless extras, they should focus on fixing their broken online structure. Instead of forcing so many restrictions online, why not just offer parental controls?

I think its because the online “structure” is a Nintendo thing, not a SSBB thing.

looks at No More Heroes…you poor poor game…hands it a tissue…go ahead…let it all out…

I’m not talking about the restrictions set in by the Wii itself, but the additional restrictions placed in by SSBB.

It seems like the game is being made with kids, not competitive players, in mind. The way you set up online matches is totally stupid to us, but not to parents with little kids. Of course, I think they’re totally wrong on their target base and even more wrong on who’ll be playing this game in three years (competitive players, almost exclusively), so personally I think the online system is horrible.

I was under the impression that Sakurai had only worked on it for a short while. . .I can’t remember the timeframe, but I recall that at the last E3 or at a similar event, Iwata announced that Sakurai was directing, and Sakurai himself was as surprised as everyone else. Not a good sign.

The only redeeming factor is that the team that Sakurai is working with are Smash addicts–Sakurai commented on seeing them have thousands of hours logged into the game. Of course, this means nothing–lots of hours logged in don’t necessarily mean an intimate knowledge of the competitive metagame.

The worst part is that, yes, Sakurai IS pretty darn close to one who echoes Miyamoto’s philosophy on games. But Miyamoto, if you remember, likes games that are easy to pick up, are relatively uncomplicated, and are genuinely weird. All of these qualities (save the weirdness) don’t really mesh well with a competitive fighting game.

I may be being negative, but it’s just that Sakurai hasn’t really given me much reason to think that this game is suitable for/being catered to competitive smashers.

what an odd assist trophy…I just fear that the parts will be too common

And Melee was? It took banning a huge percentage of the game to make it “playable at a competitive level”.

I don’t think I’ll be able to last. I NEED MY UPDATES
