And what exactly makes GoF suck? You didn’t even say why. GoF is an excellent game. Some people just don’t understand it becasue it’s so different from most other fighters.
And I was not ‘slamming’ commercial games at all. That is you trying to put words in my mouth. All I was saying was that I find certain doujins to be better than commercial games. I am not slamming commercial games in the slightest (Currently I’m following Blazblue and TvC, which are both commercial games.)
Are you getting worked up simply becasue I find streetfighter to be boring? Give me a break. Just because a game plays differently from the norm, doesn’t make it suck. GoF does not suck and can be taken seriously.

I never said it was bad! I respect street fighter as being one of the most solid fighting games ever, if not the most so. That doesn’t change the fact that I find it boring in terms of system, character design and gameplay.
Besides, I post here mainly for the other fighting games. Do you ever see me post in the street fighter boards? No. Because I’m not interested in them. SRK just happens to be one of the better places for discussing random fighting games, especially doujins. (and as you know, I like doujins quite a bit)
One game I always wanted to try was Maribato. My memory of that game is hella fuzzy. It seemed to have a somewhat interesting tag system, but overall the game looked too slow for my taste (think of QoH). If anyone here played that shit, I’d like to hear what your opinion is on the game.
I gotta agree with Dandy J. Pretty much any thing else is a waste of your time.
i played that game for awhile but the bottom line is that its very dry. one of the biggest things is being able to airblock everything. the guard bar goes down 2x as fast but the game would be a lot more fun with no airblock. anyway yea its one of the few games that after 20 minutes of playing id be completely sick of it.

The only reason Smash is there is because it’s so god damn popular albeit everyone and their 3rd cousins know that it’s not tourney viable for shit. Also, Mizuki hit the nail on the head. MBAC is shit. AA however, is a MUCH, MUCH, better game and it’s too bad you guys didn’t get to play it yet. They wised up and decided to add priority to the game.

I am not attempting to troll. I honestly cannot see why people don’t see the merit in GoF when I would think it was obvious to anyone who’d actually attempted to understand how it plays. And that doesn’t just mean playing it once and saying “omg I can’t jump, where’s my hadoukens, this game sucks”

If you explored options in the norm (GOOD CHARACTERS, GOOD GAMES), people might take you seriously. The fact that you do follow TvC and BB makes it look like a game has to have anime to make it good. And yeah, Fighters History Dynamite deserves to be an evo game. That game is solid.

Okay then, ask yourself this:
“If my doujin game replaced every loli under the age of 16, schoolboy, furry, or crazy psycho with a random character from Shaq-Fu…would I still play it? Would even 80% of the cast be intact?”
But what makes a ‘good’ character (design-wise) is all up to personal preference and style! I follow TvC because I missed out on MvC and am interested in learning the (admittedly different) new spinoff game in the series rather than go and learn an old game that’s full of infinites. I follow Blazblue because the engine looks meaty and solid, and has characters that I actually like, as well as lots of other little meaningless things like ballsy hitlag and easy guardcrushes and other stuff that I like in fighting games.
I do explore options in the norm, but I am not going to play a character who I don’t enjoy. In SSBB, I played Snake, and I didn’t stop playing Snake when he became a ‘norm’ and ‘high tier’ character. I played him because I liked his playstyle and it agreed with me. It’s the same for Neko Ark Chaos in Melty blood. I liked Nero, but Neco Arc Chaos has some things that I wish Nero did have, and seems to come together more to my liking, and so I play him. It has nothing to do with him being a cat or being small. It’s because he’s more INTERESTING than Nero, while still retaining some of the properties that I do like about N.Chaos.
I’ll give you another example: Monster. Do you think when the original monster came out, I played Efleet? Hell no. He may have been the ‘oddball beta 1’ character, but he was boring as hell to play and was broken in not a good way. I played Othello, who was a very popular and solid character in that game. Likewise in Blazblue, I’m not all that interested in Carl.
And to all you people bashing GoF for it’s art style, grow up and learn to appreciate good paper doll animation. I find the art style in that game to be far more attractive than sometihng ‘realistic’ along the lines of Mortal Combat or whatever. At least it’s original.
