I’ve realized I really don’t like the NSMB or Mario 3D levels in this game, if it’s both of those in it. I prefer SM1 and 3 by far.
That’s funny, I’ve been thinking how I’m not really feeling the 3DW as much as the others. Maybe I’m still getting used to the mechanics, but something just feels a little off. And I hate the fucking Koopa Car. I’m hoping my experience improves, because it does have a lot of potential and it looks great. It’s still early.
New Soup is probably my favorite style, though. The acrobatics have the greatest potential I think. It’s just so fun to speed run with triple jumps and wall jumps. But I fucking love all four of the original styles and will play any one of them if the levels are good.
SMW probably has the most potential for Kaizo levels if that’s your thing. Being able to throw shells up in the air and juggle shell jumps and shit.
SMB3 is my favorite game of all time.
I feel like I posted this recently, but couldn’t find it in the thread, lol.
Super Mario Bros. 3 is my favorite Super Mario game. I just wish we had Hammer Suits and Frog Suits. Underwater levels would be GODLIKE with a Frog Suit.
I am LOVING that Slide and Gusty Garden are music choices via sound effects in this game. Some of the greatest Mario songs of all time. I’m hoping Nintendo adds more music in updates. Fossil Falls and Steam Gardens would be awesome to have.
I’ve never used Luigi to help clear levels in Story mode but apparently if you do, you get a green flag to show that you used his help. I’m thinking that L does not stand for Luigi in this case.
Endless Challenge is one of the best new additions to SMM2. It encourages record breaking plays. I was going a run on Normal a few evenings ago and got some of the funnest maps. I only got 1 map of enemy spam and two maps that I skipped. The rest were insanely fun speed runs, puzzle solving, stuff that felt like legit Super Mario levels. Probably one of the best Normal runs I’ve had. And I got a new record and a few first clears.
World is still my favorite, but Mario 3 has been rising the ranks recently. Could over take American Mario 2 soon.
The best music in SMM2 is the Super Mario Kart Mario Circuit music.
FACT.
Started working on this course a week ago but everything really came together this week and I finished it. I was so into making this course while at Kings Island that my Switch battery got to the lowest it has ever been. Before arriving home, that sucker was at 15%. Anyhoo…
Red Coins in the Sky
D9R-KNV-66G
I don’t think anyone will have trouble with this one. There’s some puzzle solving involved but nothing brain wrecking.
I still need to play chad’s latest level.
Just finished story mode…
Saw some really good levels made by Nintendo!!
Going to try some of the levels created by you guys, and try to make my 1st level.
UPDATE:
Made my first test level in the SMB3 style.
Just started watching this video and already its giving some great info…but I’d like something for the novice level.
Here’s my newest:
Flower Power!
ID: 8FV-HMQ-XVG
It’s classic SMB, with some help from Super Mario Land
It’s pretty standard, and shouldn’t be difficult for anyone to complete.
@ReggieH I really liked your Red Coins in the Sky level, dude! Great sense of space and pacing. It felt like it could easily be a SMB3 level made by Nintendo. Think I got the first clear, too!
First course is up:
Goomba Landing!
ID: 0WK-Q5R-P1G
It’s a SMB3 level with a Goomba theme.
I had threw in some “?” Block surprises to catch some casuals off guard.
litrally very exited for the news please keep us update about it people…thanks
Word up, I’ll add it and play it later this evening.
I’m drafting out my next level. It’s going to be loosely based on Forest Secret Area from SMW, with two tracked platforms that zigzag up and down throughout the level.
I’ll have to modify the mechanic a little because in the original level, the two platforms cross paths as one continues in an upward trajectory while the other continues down. Then they both change direction at their peaks and head back to the middle of the screen and cross paths again.
Unfortunately, you can’t cross tracks in SMM2. So I’m going to have two sets of tracks that are slightly offset and one will zigzag through the top portion of the level while the other covers the bottom half. They’ll keep meeting in the middle and bouncing away form each other. I’m hoping this recreates a similar experience to the original level. The goal is to have the same kind of feel, not copy what’s already been done, piece by piece.
I think I’ll use the sky theme for it, because I want to keep the Athletic music theme. Maybe throw some rainbows and colored pipes and shit in there. Fuck around with the On/Off switches to make platforms available for 1-Up blocks and 10-Coins or whatever the fuck.
It’s gonna be dope.
Edit: OH SHIT! I can have a vertical subworld that has two platforms doing the same thing, but going up (or down- gotta think about for a minute) and they keep zigzagging laterally instead of vertically. Fuck yeah, I’m all excited about this shit now!
This is fucking cool.
I’m about halfway done with my next level with the platforms. I’ll hopefully have it done in the next day or so.
Ok, here it is:
Sky Secret Area
ID: K3W-12B-YFF
This shit is pretty fun. I expanded on the original idea by adding some saw blades and other surprises. Unfortunately, there’s no way to make koopas fly horizontally like in the original SMW, at least not without tracks, and I already have enough tracks in the level.
I didn’t include a subworld on this one after all, but it is a mechanic I want to explore in a future level.
Let me know what you think!
Oh, and just an FYI- you CAN speedrun this level
I whipped this level up in about two nights with some working on it during a break at work.
SMB 8-1-ish
HV9-SF7-N3G
Inspired by 8-1 from Super Mario Bros. but it isn’t a 1 to 1 recreation. Aggressive Pianha Plants and Hammer Bros. are aplenty in this level. I don’t think this is a hard level but if you can hang on to your power-ups, killing Hammer Bros. will be easier and it will help to shave seconds off your time. Like 8-1 in SMB, there is no check point.
I really need to try out making a level. I haven’t even opened that part of the game. I kind of have an idea of a non-traditional level, but I don’t even know if it is possible.
Also just completed both your levels, cool ones!
Need to get back to creating levels.
I’m aiming for more traditional and casual levels, mostly in the SMB and SMB3 style
@ReggieH Yo I finally played your 8-1 stage and beat @purbeast’s record I also played your Conveyer Chaos level and got the world record on that, too. Great stuff, man!
I’m working on my first 3DW level. It’s a desert theme, using the Ancient Runs in the Sand Kingdom from Odyssey as inspiration. I’ll post it up when I finish it. Probably later this week.
Looks like chad played Conveyor Chaos before I even posted the code here. But that is the benefit of following level creators.
For anyone that wants to play it, here’s the code.
Conveyor Chaos
WQN-X7R-PRG
I think it is the first course I’ve uploaded in Super Mario World style, which is strange that it took me so long to do so, because I really like that game’s style.
Surprised this wasn’t posted here yet.
