Siiiiiiick! Definitely gonna try some of them out.

Edit: added his levels to the first post.

Ross O’Donovan (RubberNinja/RubberRoss) who had some of the most popular courses in SMM1’s community uploaded his first level yesterday

He also mentions on his Twitter and Youtube channel that the next few months his twitch will be dedicated to SMM2. (His actual job is a cartoonist and storyboard artist. He usually streams whatever he’s working on) Additionally, he mentioned that he’s also collaborating with other twitch and YouTube content creators who were active in the SMM1 community to make levels for SMM2

So what is everyone’s style of creation? puzzles? over the top hard? gimmicks? I’m just curious as I know each of us has our own style of creation.

I prefer gimmicks and puzzles with a dash of emulating real courses you’d see in a reg mario game. Will try to recreate an air stage I made…or morph it into a cage match w/ bowser

SMM2 is gonna take over Twitch and YouTube channels. I mean, we all knew that was gonna happen, but it is still great to see the game being embraced so warmly.

Since I’m still packing up (just about done) I haven’t been able to finish a level and upload it. Jumpman is almost finished. I just want to fine tune it before uploading. I’m really wanting to get a course or two up soon but I don’t wanna put up something sloppy. I do admit that I feel a bit rusty.

My style of course creation? I LOVE making hard courses that focus on tricky sections like enemy placement, obstacles, jumps, that sort of thing. I do occasionally like to make easier levels.

EDIT: I was in the middle of packing and editing Jumpman and now the course is finished and uploaded!

Jumpman: Y9L-5DW-YGG

With Mario Maker 1, I made an assortment of levels- from speedruns, to “find the key”, to themed levels (Metroid, SMB2), to basic levels you’d find in a typical Mario game.

My first SMM2 level uses the On/Off switch mechanic to automatically have platforms blink on and off while you scale your way up. I think my next level might be something in the desert maybe. Not too sure yet, but I’ll probably start working on it this week.

My general strategy will probably be to limit my levels to some thematic elements (gizmos and enemy types) rather than throwing everything at them all at once. And what I do is usually kinda visualize what I want to make, and then make it up as I go along and see what works via play testing and trial and error. Rarely do I ever actually graph an entire level out. I’ll just start with a concept and build on it.

I’m going to try to stick to the formula of introducing the player to a theme or gimmick or whatever I want my level to be about at the very beginning of the level, starting with an easy challenge. Then add some more challenges in that are gradually more and more difficult, with checkpoints placed after a few. I always try to add some “secrets” for 1-ups in my levels, too, with keeping in mind that someone might be playing them on Endless Challenge. So I try to give you at least 3 1-ups, but they won’t necessarily be free.

I dunno, some of this will probably evolve, but that’s OK because I plan on sinking a lot of time into this game, lol.

Cool, I added it to the first post.

Also, if you guys want your Maker IDs up there so we can follow each other, post them and I’ll add them in.

WHO MAN’S IS THIS?

It looks a stage I would watch someone play, not play myself!!

Yeah, PePanga is notorious for kaizo levels that I will never play, lol. It’s cool watching streamers play them though!

Ryukahr’s level:

It looks tough, but doable. No kaizo moves like shell jumps, etc., but there is some precision involved.

If you haven’t checked out Ryukahr and you enjoy watching people play Mario Maker, you should definitely check some of his videos out. Dude is really good and super friendly and funny.

there’s a really cool level at the timestamp I linked. The section with the pow block was pretty sick

How do you find you’re Mario Maker ID? I want to add mine.

It’s somewhere in your Maker Profile, when you press Y to bring it up. I’ll double check mañana if you haven’t found it by then.

Found it.

Gonna dl Reggie’s level soon.

Someone turned the popular Indy game Downwell into a SMM2 level.

ok this one is just bizarre… I am not sure how he was failing or what was finally different when he passed this level at this timestamp… :

maybe the beetle shell was hitting him as he came out of the “dry bones” state? I have no idea what was up with that level.
