Super Dragonball Z

The US version of Super DragonBall Z is coming out in July, one month after it’s Japanese release. When Super DragonBall Z hits, everyone will forget about the Budokai series with it’s PPPE Kamehameha and dozens of characters that all share the same damn moves.

I just hope the loading times aren’t horrible like the Budokai games, the PS2 anyways, the GC versions loaded pretty damn quickly in comparasion.

I demand japanese voices for the US version I just love Goku’s voice

Great deduction there.

B3 is one of the best (some say the best) DBZ games out so it’s only natural for other DBZ games to be compared to it in some type of way. So if you have no interest in B3 or posts containing B3, you simply stfu and move on.

i think someone should make a game about dragon ball (without the Z) and put lots of sexual themes in it.
game features:
1.child molesting!
2.do you really need anything more than that?

Atari put the full Japanese voice track for both the GH version of Budokai 3 and Shin Budokai. I have a feeling it will be standard from now on.

Ven: B3 is the best DBZ fighter as of right now, but I get the feeling this will be far better.

Try out DragonBall Advance Adventure on the GBA, it’s a cute lil action/adventure/beat’em up and you play has the young Son Goku. After clearing the game once, you can go through playing has the young Krillin. Then there’s a spiffy boss rush mode where you can play has Tenshinhan!

no pig with sex slaves?

My thoughts: Somehwat excited, somewhat miffed. It’ll be a decent (maybe even great) fighter, but I play a DBZ game for the DBZ stuff (lightning fast punches, big lasers, free flight), and somehow, I don’t think 2.5D and 720 command grabs can quite capture that. BTW, why the fuck are they putting Chi-Chi in this game…it’s bad enough Tenkaichi had Hercule in it. And why does Videl have Ki blasts? To me, it ultimately seems like they’re simply trying to make an SF clone with the DBZ license.

IMO, Tenkaichi is spot on with how DBZ should be (Virtual On style), despite the fact that it isn’t a traditional fighter. DBZ doesn’t have traditional fights, so why should the games have it? Just build on what Tenkaichi did (just like how the Budokai games progressed) and they’ll have an excellent game on their hands.

Hokuto No Ken doesn’t have traditional fights either. But, look at how that turned out. And HnK is the godfather of overexaggerated anime fight scenes.

I say give it a chance. I like Tenkaiichi as well. Its fun. But its so broken at times that it just doesn’t become fun after a while.

Cell Jr. vs. Cybaman = best fights in the entire game.

Budokai 3 had Bulma in the Japanese version, although she was really just an alternate costume for Videl. So why not make Chi Chi playable? She has the moves!

DragonBall and some early DBZ sure did though.

Super Butoden and Hyper Dimension?

  1. Still don’t agree with Chi-Chi (or Bulma, or Hercule) in Super DBZ or Budokai. Unless they’re doing “alternate” plots like they did with the Fusions in Budokai 2, those guys stand no chance. Like even less of a chance than Raditz, Nappa and all the first season guys do. Now if they are doing the “what ifs” like Budokai had, then it’s OK, becasue then they can make those guys as strong as they want (actually, a battle-ready Bulma would’ve been a kickass idea, but alas).

  2. Dragonball had some old-school combat, that’s for sure. As did the early parts of DBZ. But the era the newer DBZ games take place in (late DBZ to GT) are way over the top with the battles. That’s why I think the Tenkaichi system suits it the best.

  3. Hyper Dimension was a great game for the time (and an excellent fighter). But you have to know that if they had the technology to make games like Tenkaichi on SNES, they’d have probably did that when making Hyper Dimension. The 3D technology at the time was very limited. As for Super Butoden, never played it unfortunately, so I can’t judge.

I’m gonna reiterate that I think this game will be good. Just not good for a DBZ game. And even though that’s OK for most folks here (being hardcore fighter fans and all), for me I’d rather have the game that’s truer to the show (Tenkaichi). As for HnK, I’m pretty sure they didn’t fly or fire blasts that level cities (I’m a bit rusty on HnK, so correct me if I’m wrong), so a traditional fighter is a lot more feasable for the series despite the fact that it’s also over the top.

If you liked Sparking! then, you might like Legends, and the Bukuu/Super Sonic Warrior games.

Looks to me like it captures the feel of late Dragon Ball/early Z quite well. And considering that the highest quality material originates from that time in the series, I’d say that’s a good thing. The only game up to this point that closely replicated the series in its later era was Legends, which was good if you can stomach a mangled 2-player mode and graphics that look like a blender full of puree’d assholes.

I’ve always maintained that Street Fighter’s programmers would lend themselves well to a Dragon Ball game.

Don’t see what the big deal is, if Tenkaichi supposedly captures the essence of DBZ fighting to you than stay with the game. Like I said before, Super DBZ is a game for those who like DBZ…but love good fighting games even more.

It’s not like the games can’t co-exist together or anything. And Chi Chi looks like she will be fun to play as from the vids I’ve seen of her.

True, the games can co-exist. That’s why I say one (Super) will be a good fighter while the other (Tenkaichi) is a good DBZ game. Problem is, most folks come down on anyone with that mindset with B3/Super DBZ >>>>>> Tenkaichi propaganda like it should be a cardinal sin to think otherwise. I’m not grouping the two together, but some other folks sure are.

BTW, I can’t stand those people, whereas people who approach like you do make good sense to me.

I REALLY wanted to like Tenkaichi but the whole control scheme ruined it for me.
While Tenkaichi was a good DBZ game presentation wise, I really didn’t think it was as fun to play as Budakai 3.

I am really hyped for this game. Can’t wait till it comes out. It does remind me of a mix between the SF EX series and Budakai games. The only thing that might stop me from buying it would be the price tag. I really hope it’s not going to be $50. $30 maybe, but not $50. But then again, my judgment tells me that DBZ fanboys will buy anything at any price. =/

I’m tired of all these redundant DBZ games that suck.

Super DBZ is what I have been waiting for for a very long time.

A DBZ game that is actually a GOOD FIGHTING GAME.

Is that so Perfect Legend? Thought you learned something a few weeks ago at the CCAD.

Oh, hell yea!!! I’m on it…just give me the game cause I’m a
DBZ freak!!!
