So let me get this straight. Team Usa 1 (Hsien Chang, Bananaken) who originally qualified due to winning Planet Zero’s Sbo qualifier tournament wasn’t counted in because apparently they gave out to many qualifiers somewhat forgetting the Team Usa 1 (Hsien Chang, Bananaken) was already qualified in the first place. So they had a little faceoff match between Team Usa 1 and the Kuwait team to enter for the qualifiers. Really? I ain’t even American but that seems bullshit to me. Why of all the other japanese teams let another foreign team challenge another. It must be bullshit seeing how much cash you spent to travel overseas only to end in dissapointment. Why not have them faceoff against the other last qualifier japanese teams instead? wasn’t the whole problem cause by such team as (Daigo/Iyo) entering in the last minute? Damn… that sucks.
Go figure.
is it just me or was the ayano cup a whole lot better than this…
Considering it’s single elim, you guys are overreacting. Play-in game, no play-in game… it really doesn’t matter.
At the end of the day, you lose once, you go home. It’s not like they get an extra prize for making top 32, as opposed to top 33. They lost at SBO. That’s what happened. Adding any more meaning to their loss, than that, is just arbitrary.
If they had to play their way into a double elim bracket, but lost one match, and weren’t able to get into the 32-team, double elim bracket, then there would be an issue, but since it’s single elim anyway, and they lost… they go home, just the same.
At the end of the day, SBO looks stupid for their mistake, sure… but it didn’t REALLY affect anything.
Yeah it doesn’t matter, but that was plain fucked up. I’m pretty sure The American team wouldn’t have made it far(It’s fucking SBO) but it still bullshit man. Imagine the money…THE MONEY! wasted to go there.
no it wasnt. why dont u numbskulls read before making assumptions. even if daigo/iyo didnt qualify. that last chance qualifying slot would have still made it through without having a sudden death face off. it has nothing to do with daigo, but has everything to do with SBO messing up and making the foreigners pay for their mistake
to be frank, EVO > SBO by a long way. charging people (countries) to pay for a stream, then denying entry to certain nations. i wanted to see banana ken, like many other paying americans would have too. dont get us to pay then do stupid crap like this
The more I read those results and let it sink in that it was all decided on single-elim, one game… the more I don’t care about who won or who lost.
The fact that the tournament itself is some prestigious, exclusive event with only 64 competitors is also dumb. So many great players didn’t get a chance to play.
I mean… I knew this before. I’ve been following SBO for years now. I guess it’s just different this year, somehow. EVO was so good. All these wonderful FG majors we see now, where it’s $10 to enter and double elim, 2 out of 3. Many Japanese people going overseas to play in them, and preferring them. I used to think SBO was some magical, high-pressure tournament where the true champions are made… now I just see it as some random crapshoot that almost isn’t even worth my time.
Cool that Yun/Yang won the event though, I guess.
Wasn’t the whole reason they had to have a faceoff beforehand was because of having too much teams qualified or handing out too much qualifications(last chance qualifier) in the first place? That’s why it was top 33 not 32. I wasn’t specifically implying to Daigo/Iyo team I was saying the last minute teams who decided to enter. They apparently forgotten there was other teams official qualified in the first place(Usa team) sad thing was they had to challenge the Kuwait team (Who also official qualified) to challenge them. Why not have the last minute Japanese team challenge each other for the spot instead?
Now GODSGARDEN is officially best Japanese tourny!
I wonder if EVO Japan is still in the works.
It seems like now would be the perfect time to get that going again. People seem to be annoyed, by and large, by the typical format, and if EVO could swoop in right now, it’d be great.
God’s Garden is cool, but they obviously don’t have the time/resources/clout or whatever to run an open 2/3 tournament.
no they didnt forget, they just gave out too many overseas qualifying slots without double checking. everything else, even last minute qualifers has always happened. i agree and already said last chance teams should face each other which is why this is a SBO error but instead of people making this clear, they keep throwing daigo’s name into it, like he’s some how the reason sbo gave out too many spots. its unfair to even mention his name, he had nothing to do with this and with the hate he gets already, lets not give his haters another reason to hate on him.
Godsgarden is a very informal tourney… held in a bar, fans vote in the players, players get to choose who they want to play, runs from evening till dawn, players drink beer while playing… The playing from the players is beautiful but it’s still never going to be as prestigious as SBO or EVO.
Last Chance Qualifiers have always happened.
However, TWO LAST CHANCE QUALIFIER SPOTS has not.
Furthermore, you need your name drawn out of a hat to even get a chance to play in the last chance qualifier (16 teams max).
Further furthermore, Daigo and Iyo had a GUARANTEED DRAW so their names were not put in the hat.
This is why poongko had bad luck, his name wasn’t drawn, no spot in Last Chance Qualifier to even attempt to play for the spot.
Further further furthermore, they basically had two LCQ spots at the expense of two other teams who paid 1K+ to fly there.
The whole situation is ten times of garbage.
we don’t know what happen. We don’t know if the US team are really officially qualified. People just hating on Daigo for no reason. Even if Daigo and Iyo didn’t qualify, the US team will still have to play the Kuwaiti too. Daigo’s team is not the only team who guaranteed a spot, i heard there are few other big name teams are guaranteed in the LCQ.
Mago’s team is qualify the same way as Daigo’s team. Mago and Tokido uryo, guaranteed a spot on the 16 men tournament. Other people have to draw their names to a 16 qualifier tournament. they have to win that one before they can enter the real tournament. All the private tournaments in Japan are like this. Big names got automatic spot, other players have to fight for it.
I don’t know why people are so mad about this. This is similar to evo. they put two jp players a 16 players pool. and 3 hawaii players in the same pool. They play 1k+ to fly here too. It’ not like SBO doesn’t give them a chance to qualify, the US team is just no good.
Further furthermore, the LCQ spots are only at the expense of 1 US team. the Kuwaiti team qualified and won the first round. At of the end, they only screwed the US players.
Similar to EVO are you retarded?
It’s not like pool play is a single elimination bracket for one game.
And the USA players had to win a tournament to even get a spot in SBO, just LIKE ALL THE OTHER PLAYERS.
You win your pool in EVO, think of it as winning your SBO Ticket if you want to make good analogies instead of completely terrible ones.
You had to WIN something to get in.
What happened here is they WON something to get in a foreign tournament, except they flat out were denied entry.
Do you think it’d be ok to tell any of the foreigners who came to EVO that due to a glitch they’d have to play one of the other foreign players in single-elim BEFORE the tournament even started, winner gets the rights to play in pools and loser goes home?
Because that’s basically what happened.
Jose had to pay money to FLY to Texas to win a tournament so he could FLY to Japan to be removed from the bracket before the tournament started.
Your analogies are all strawmen and not even remotely based on logic.
Also, bullshit we don’t know what happened.
They had the brackets drawn up weeks ago, in full detail, and the USA team AND the Kuwaiti team were both on there.
Both LCQ spots were left open as wildcards and both were on there.
What WASN’T on there was the Taiwanese team.
So when the time finally actually came to run the brackets A WEEK LATER, they realized there was no Taiwanese team on their WEEK-OLD BRACKETS, and removed the USA team.
fubarduck had to freaking negotiate for them to even consider re-adding them, and SBO, instead of removing one of the LCQ spots (via playoff) so there would only be one LCQ spot, decided to randomly fuck over two foreign teams who already had guaranteed spots in the tournament from a week ago.
Also your ends justify the means argument is sickening.
So Kuwait didn’t get screwed you say cause they won.
And if they had lost?
The fact they had a guaranteed spot and had to play against the USA team who also had a guaranteed spot before the tournament even started is bullshit.
Jose even said it was unfair to screw Kuwait, and you know what SBO said?
They said the alternative was then the USA team not playing at all.
In the end, SBO forced two foreign teams with legitimate spots won through qualifiers to rob each other of a spot before the tournament even started.
So screw your retarded analogies and attempts to equate this with Evolution, Evolution is miles above SBO in classiness.
yeah, because they won, they got screw. if they lost, US team didn’t got screw because they can only screw up one team.
I have to agree with you Evo is miles above SBO in classiness, but not fairness. the points system that evo created is not really fair for EU, Asian players or any players that’s outside of US. US will automatic get more points oversea players unless you have money or sponsor to get you to US tournaments. IF you don’t, you are fucked.
The tournament is host in Japan, of course that they are look out for Jp players. I didn’t said EVO did anything wrong. It’s good to look out for our own people.
you can continues to be mad, but i will be moving on. Because i know this world is unfair. Just like white people always make more money than black. You just have to work harder to even out the unfairness in this world.
I’m going to spell it out for you, since you seem completely unable to balance your talking points.
Regardless of your EVO points or whatever, anyone is allowed to play a good number of matches in pools when they choose to enter EVO, regardless of nation.
You are considered “playing in the tournament” even in pools.
In SBO, you play a tournament to even be on the bracket, and you can be removed from the tournament before it even starts.
Why do you think Daigo and Iyo were given a free draw in Last Chance Qualifiers?
Why were they EVEN in Last Chance Qualifiers?
Because they were unable to win ANY of the normal qualifying tournaments.
Even multiple times!
How many chances were they given?
You fail one qualifying tournament you can go to the next one and try again!
But they failed every one and were in last chance.
And then they got a guaranteed spot in last chance, thus depriving someone else (it could have been Poongko’s team!) a chance to play in Last Chance Qualifiers.
Jose and Hsien don’t live in Japan.
They don’t have the benefit of “oh I failed this qualifying tournament I can just go to the next one” that the Japanese do.
They won their qualifier in Texas, and when they flew to Japan, they were told they didn’t qualify.
Same with Kuwait, they don’t live in Japan either.
They flew to Japan, and were told by SBO that they didn’t qualify.
This is all being done after these people fly to Japan under the impression they are “playing in the tournament” already.
Fairness?
You are full of garbage if you can’t see the difference in scale between taking away a spot that was rightfully won and reserved weeks beforehand, versus getting unlucky pools.
Shitty Battle Opera!!
Daigo and Iyo in the the last chance qualifiers just the same other other team. why do you always bright up their name? Other teams are guaranteed a spot qualifiers. If this is a uryo and Iyo i bet nobody will say a thing.
“Because they were unable to win ANY of the normal qualifying tournaments.
Even multiple times!” Daigo and Iyo never lost in any qualifier. I’m not sure what are you talking about.
Let me ask you one more thing why Mago is giving a guaranteed spot at Capcom’s qualifier? If you can answer that i will answer your question.
ohhh you can bet that capcom will give Team madcatz. Mago, Daigo, Tokido a guaranteed spot in the upcoming AE National.
Lastly, the US team and the Kuwaiti team are in the official Tougeki tournament/bracket. They put their names there. They played on the official tournament stage. They just have to win one more round than all other teams to win the tournament.
I’m done with this topic. i won’t reply anymore.
