I think you guys should have an “on deck” section for people who are going to be playing soon. For example, if you reserved that spot to the left of the TVs so people who are playing soon can wait for an open TV to play their match (instead of waiting to call the next players after a match finished) I think it could’ve ran a lot faster. I’m pretty sure more than 50% of the time the TVs were on the win screen.

Also back the crowd up just a little bit so there is walking room BEHIND the players currently playing for people to get to their station.

I agree with this whole heartedly. The “on deck” system works wonders, its a real time saver. Number the stations with some folded construction paper. Then, for example, announce "A vs. B are up on station one, C vs. D on deck for station one."
This is easier to keep together if you have one or two people managing the bracket that are able to stay at their station the entire time.

I also agree with giving the players a bit of space. Things got especially heated during the finals.

I wish everyone played on TE’s so we could just have like 6 out there ready to play and not spend 5 minutes a match binding buttons

Heh heh… I really don’t understand why this game doesn’t allow you to map buttons like HDR. This was a big time waster. Competitors should be encouraged to a) rewire your stick for Type A setting if possible, or b) know the setup for your controller beforehand.

I would also recommend:

[]Paper brackets for the smaller tourneys (TvC, HDR)
[]One laptop per tourney for the bigger turnouts (SF4, Marvel, 3rd strike). I volunteer to bring mine to help you out.
[]At least two people dedicated to each tourney. One person manages the brackets, the other is a runner (back and forth to the PA) to gather competitors/make announcements. Bracket managers should be committed to overseeing their game (i.e., not be a competitor in all 5 tourneys).
[]A big, oversized bracket that everyone can see for SF4. Awesome for building drama. Also keeps random people out of your hair when you are busy doing organizer stuff, and prevents disputes since you have redundancy.
[]Name tags would not be a bad idea. Everyone make their own when they register.
[]Start the tourney a bit earlier, and have a larger time window between signup start and tourney start. For example, have sign-ups from 12pm to 2pm, then tourney starts at 3pm. That gives plenty of time for folks to sign up, and gives you plenty of time to organize the money and the brackets.
