Suggestions for new books to add to my pull list?

Okay, so here’s the deal.

New Job = more money (I was previously only making a small fee for managing my dad’s antique business).

more money = the ability to afford more shit that I want.

I want more comics.

so…here’s where you come in. Sell me on some new pulls.

Doesn’t need to be DC, I’m interested in Vertigo, Marvel, Dark Horse, or any other Indie company. Tell me what I should be reading, and Why.

Just so you don’t suggest something I’m ALREADY reading, here’s what I read:

Green Lantern Corps
Shadowpact
Teen Titans
Brave and the Bold
All Star Superman

I also read Y: The Last man in TPB, as well as Young Avengers, and Scott Pilgrim (By Oni).

(You can suggest Trades as well, btw.)

Things I’m interested in checking out:

Hellboy
Transmetropolitan
Madman

TITLES I WILL, UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES READ (so don’t waste your time):

Green Lantern (You could staple a $100 bill to the front of each copy and I still wouldn’t buy it)
Spawn (I wouldn’t wipe my ass with Spawn)
Justice Society of America (I would’ve read the previous JSA series with rapt anticipation, but I won’t touch this one).

I might consider Justice League of America, but I get the feeling I’d be forced to drop it in disgust before its over.

You should get Madman. Image is conveniently releasing the TPBs of it, too. Checking those TPBs out might make it easier to get into the series. The current arc is pretty mind-expanding and frankly, I am highly doubtful that your feeble intellect will be able to fully comprehend and appreciate the true majesty of Mike Allred. Thus, start with the TPBs to build yourself up.

Other TPBs you should check out are any of the ABC series. Promethea, Tom Strong, Top Ten, Tomorrow Stories - ALL GOOD. Why, you ask? Because they’re AWESOME.*

Also, check out The Filth TPB by Morrison (Vertigo). It’s one of the greatest comics of the millenium. Or it might be a monumental waste of twenty dollars. U DECIDE!!! (after you’ve spent some of your newfound wealth on it, of course)

Oh, and as for monthlies to add to your pull list: Daredevil, Captain America, CRIMINAAAAAAL!!!1, and The Immortal Iron Fist. Reasoning? The Almighty Brubaker, of course. Try and you will believe.

*AWESOME = Written by Alan Moore

lol.

Iron Fist seems like it might be good (I like the character, and have ALWAYS been a fan of “Heroes for Hire”)

Cable and Deadpool is teh funniez. I’d recommend it if it wasn’t about to fucking get axed.

Yeah, that’s why I didn’t mention it.

damn shame really, I dig Deadpool, but I don’t wanna track down nothing but back issues (I’ll do it for an ongoing run, to get caught up, but not for a series that’s on it’s way out the door)

Marvel Zombies

Guggenheim’s Wolverine is really good right now if you can get past the not so great art.

Who’s doing the art?

The one and only HOWARD CHAYKIN, baby!!! Painy’s all-time favorite.

Black Summer
Doktor Sleepless
Some 30 Days of Nights would be good. Movie’s coming out soon.

Getting Transmetropolitan trades is always a good idea.

Can’t go wrong with 100 Bullets either.

Walking Dead
Invincible
Mouse Guard
The Boys
Blade of The Immortal

I’m not sure if I ever made my feelings towards 30 Days of Night known, but suffice it to say, It’s my opinion that it’s not worthy to wipe my ass.

Really? If I had known, I wouldnt have put it up.

Funny thing is, today I picked up the 30 Days of Night oversized HC. Number 1653 of 2000, signed by Niles and Templesmith.

Anyway, hope you have some use for my other suggestions.

Annihilation Quasar #4!

As far as 30 days of night, the hardcover is seventy fucking dollars. That book better suck my dick and tickle my ass simultaneously for that price.

…Mouse Guard? Really? I’ve never actually directly looked at an issue on the shelf - I’ve just been ignoring them all this time. Is that like some Rats of NIM, Redwall Abbey type fun? I remember reading like all of the Redwall novels when I was a kid - shit was awesome. In no other fictional world can badgers be such beasts.

I never realized how much of a gateway drug that stuff was into the world of furrydom either.

Why don’t you like Green Lantern, Taichi? I think it’s one of DC’s better monthlies. You just don’t like that whole editorial direction with Hal Jordan coming back and replacing Kyle Rayner and stuff? That’s a legitimate issue, I’ll give you that. It’s why I’ll never buy another Batgirl book again.

FAAAABLES!!!11111 definitely at the top of the list. If you haven’t touched that yet, I suggest you drop what you’re doing, and go pick up the first trade at least, Legends In Exile.

I think you’ll like the new Iron Fist series with The Bru. I think a trade for the first couple of issues just came out really recently (last week?) so you can hope right on the wagon and not miss a beat. Definitely give that a shot.

Honestly, there aren’t too many great monthlies right now that I wait all month to pick up (Except CRIMINAAAAAL!!!111, but I don’t know if a trade is out or coming out for it. Oh, and I really like Astonishing X-Men as well, but I don’t know if it’s actually shipping late or if it just feels that way.) - instead I would suggest picking up a ton of trades instead to catch up on things you might have missed the first time around.

Hellboy - Definitely pick up the first five trades or so if you’re interested in it. Everyone should, and the fact that you’re interested already just means you should get to it faster.

Walking Dead - Just excellent, excellent writing.

Invincible - Fun, teenage superhero stuff. Some very old school comic book ideas here, and it’s a very entertaining book.

100 Bullets - There’s like what, 11 trades? Whatever, it’s all good. Some of the best storytelling I’ve ever seen in the comic book medium.

Top Ten - Can’t go wrong with anything by Alan Moore.

Planetary - Shit will blow your mind in a good way.

The Filth - Shit will blow your mind in a bad way. You should really check the trade out, if only for the fact that it’s always really fun for me to tell someone else to read this book. Then it’s like “Haha, you read The Filth too! One of us! One of us! One of us!” Zephy and I can’t be the only ones that had our minds broken by this book.

Sleeper - So good.

And Scott Pilgrim would be on my list of suggestions as well , but I see you’re already there - good stuff.

I would just like to stress FAAAAABLES!!!111 again though.

Please stay in one place. i have to kill you. Nothing personal.

If nothing else, I must respect you for your professional courtesy. I’m out Saturday night and Sunday afternoon, but other than that, feel free to pop in whenever you’d like.

Very well. I’ll kill you Tuesday. Yes, Tuesday seems perfect.

I think the prices for separate issues are at 70 a pop. There was only one printing after all. Same for 300 ( wich I have in HC and issues)

The HC I have is 100 USD though. It has the first 3 30DON series, oversized and all. That’s 15 issues, plus all the extras you could find. Not too bad a deal.

I had a tingly sensation in my balls when I picked it up. Nothing like what you described, but for a comic, it’s an experience nonetheless

…and all you did was pick it up? This was prior to purchasing, *right?*This requires more, um, research…
