Nice pic Munta (seriously check out Craig Thompson’s stuff…I can’t believe you aren’t familiar with him). Anyway…another Vega pic, this time it’s a portrait. I realize that the two are in different style, but that’s just how I am, I’m not good enough to know EXACTLY what I’m gonna do yet. So maybe you guys could help me decide.
kinda a long neck.
these are sketches, meaning that they’re even messier than my usual stuff… anywhay this pic is fan art of Mel (Ken’s son), when he’s old enough to participate in a fighting tournament.
RBFFS Nightmare Geese. well, it’s meant to be, anyway.
CptMunta
Yo CptMunta let me find it and I get on It right a way ok I won’t even get my cousin to fix it, so you can see it before its all cleaned up then I’ll get my cousin to fix and color it ok.
Great sketch Rook. Most impressive pic so far in this thread.
Yeah Watchmen is definitely one of the best comics I’ve read. I loved the way Dr.Manhattan thinks hehe. Imagine if the SF comic has the same great writing like Watchmen.
Hmmm maybe I should draw a Rorscharch vs Q pic.
Street fighter would ahve a hard time doing watchmen writing cause street fighter has a sorta specific story to follow…sorta. Also everything has to be approved by capcom. Course somethigns must get slipped by like street fighter 2 the movie.
hey, rook, nice sketches. where do you get your inspiration from? i think i recognize your style a little. if i didn’t know any better, i’d think you’re a jim lee fan. what do you use to sketch? a pen? excellent stuff all around.
also, i am not familiar with the fatal fury series so much, so which one is nightmare geese? how’s he different from regular geese?
Cheers for the Comments fellas
Shinryukenreppa: I went on the web and had a look for his work. That guy kicks ass! I rarely remember names of artists. The ones I remember the most and have helpt develop style. Like: Jeff Smith, Joe Mad, Peter Chung (Aeon Flux) and other people who I’ve taught and worked with. Thanks for the info.
rook: Man Smokin Pics! Tu Mekke!!
Mr.Twelve: Would be great see a picture of the Watchmen in your style. The Rolento and Rose pic’s are some of my favorites on this forum. Looking forward to more art. Rorscharch is my second favorite. You should draw his masked ripped. He was one ugly M.F.
CptMunta: you mentioned Jeff Smith…do u read Bone?
Here’s a more complete and inked version of my earlier Vega figure sketch. I’m not sure if I did what you suggested SFMC…but I guess this’ll do for now.:bluu:
Inspiration? I’m not terribly inspired these days… I just doodle whenever I get the chance. Which isn’t terribly often thanks to working long hours.
As for me being a Jim Lee fan, you’re not too far off… I used to like his stuff (I say “used to” only because I haven’t read anything by him since X-Men 11).
Just curious… how did you arrive at that conclusion?
(I’ve always thought that my style of drawing was so mixed up that my influences weren’t obvious)
I draw with pencils (regular or mechanical) or pen. basically whatever I have lying around… the pic was done in 2B pencil but I increased the contrast in PS so the lines are darker.
Nightmare Geese is this uber-powerful version of Geese in Real Bout Fatal Fury Special. He’s the hidden boss you can fight if you meet the requirements, and he’s disgustingly strong. (eg; single reppuken eats projectiles and keeps going, C jaieiken is fast and unblockable, and psychic counter into combo for > 50% damage, just to name a few). Anyways, he’s got this chi aura around his feet, but I drew a whole body aura instead.
no hard feelings…
hmmmm… look at your geese head, doesnt that resemble jim lee’s omega red from those early 90’s x-men comics (i’ve read enough comics to notice these things)? but you are correct, you do borrow a lot of other styles as well. i can detect capcom-ish features, especially the way you draw the bold muscle proportions. most of my art is a combination of capcom art with some comic book flare from various artists–joe mad, jim lee, scott campbell, and tons of other greats.
hey, rook, dont take that comment about jim lee as an insult. a lot of people praise the guy and he is one of my favorite artists (after i saw the wonderful work he did in batman). i’ll even include a sketch of various head shots of characters originally drawn by lee.
there are too many super-powerful versions of already strong characters. i always hated using geese because his raging storm is so damn hard to pull off sometimes.
naw man, in no way did I consider your comment an insult - was just curious how you came to think of Jim Lee as an influence (which is correct). Personally I’d take Jim Lee stuff over Joe Mad stuff anyday.
btw the floating head in sketch_2.jpg (that you think looks like Omega Red) isn’t Geese’s head, it’s just a random doodle. Nightmare Geese looks pretty much like CVS Geese except (1) he’s not wearing his gi top, (2) his wristbands are different, (3) his hakama (pants) have a pattern on them, and (4) he’s got a chi aura around his feet.
no worries
cheers!
Well, ZenMasterZ I’m going to be straight up with you man. You got hella talent.
i know jim is a helluva lot talented than mad, buuuuut, mad’s style is easier to imitate. i really like the descripion on nightmare geese, dude. i think you should have a finished version of that pic so that i can really see how he looks. i really like your art man, post more, dun care if theyre sketches or not…just wanna see more!
Shinryukenreppa: Yea man Bone kicks ass. I’m not only into his art, but also the way he paces his story. And the shots he used to. Alot the time he uses simple side on shots for speech. That way the he lets his funny dialoge be the star and lets the art just be itself. I think sometimes keeping the art in the bag is cool rather than have incredable angles and poses that are outragous in every shot. I think sometimes you shouldn’t let the art overpower the story. I’ll post a fight scene in my thread and you might see a little of Jeff Smith’s influence there.
As for Jim Lee. He the best thing to happen to Batman since the 80’s IMO.
Rook:: Nice sketches. I love how your lines really flow and are playful. They give me a lot of inspiration.
ZenMasterZ:: Yeah my style is heavily influenced by Joe Mad and Kosuke Fujishima. Lol I am still trying to break away from it though. Anyway your drawings are off the hook. Keep up the good work.
Oh here are a couple sketches
dont worry about that, i have this inclination to draw like Joe Mad too. there is something thats in his style that draws everyone to it. lots of comic artists out there are getting away with imitating his style. i think he might even be the jim lee of the new generation since so many people draw like him.
also, who is fujishima? what are some of his works?
very cool dragon pic, the wings remind me of morrigan’s.
hey hey hey
Wow, guys art work is pretty ok, this is my 1st post my cousin tokd me that you guys are pertty cool here and so far its true well I don’t draw much any more (mainly cuz’ I’m a clean-up artist now) but I have colored some pictures for my cousin alot here is one of them if he didn’t already post it, also Zen, I thank that its a good Idea that your posting a how to draw thingy, drop me an e-mail when you are going to do it and I’ll help you out cuz’ I also see the some misstakes.
