I don’t know about you guys, but there I don’t see anything about another streetfighter fanart contest. If they do they usually anounce it?
SFMC, thats what I was thinking as well, I didnt hear an announcement for that contest-…hmnnnn I would believe they should give some notice of somewhat and for what issue but here we are with issue #6 and nothing…maybe im missing something…???
Re: Good Job Neighbour…
the only reason i told you about that using shading is because you are a good artist and i think the next step is developing a good sense of depth in ur pix. you have a great understanding of shapes and figures. now just add dark and light values and you will be set!
that pic with the girl bending over is pretty damn good. have you ever tried erasing here and there to create highlights? its a good technique. i usually just made shadows and stuff until i realized how important those highlights are. sfmc has them in his “painted” pics all the time.
Re: Re: Good Job Neighbour…
Where can I find these highlight pics you’re talkin’ about…?..
And nobody knows where I got the idea for the toy monkey!?!.. Blah!.. The opening scene in Rebel Without A Cause … :o
yeah i agree with zen you are a great artist and when u look at your other drawings with no shading at all and look at the one with the girl and the monkey it is like 100 times better
i never seen rebel without a cause…and that monkey…
I’m a twenty year old guy who likes old movies… What can you do… Most of my friends think I’m crazy cuz I invest my money on buying classical movies…
Anywayz, as for the shading part, I really don’t shade my drawings that much… I get too much lead on my hand cuz my hands sweat a lot… Also, just one swipe of my hand on my drawing and my work gets a big lead mark… I try not to touch the paper when I draw… Hehe… Kinda hard!
Damn it - Ive also been having the same problem for years…animation programs that i took, and in that field my style was mostly based on line work- I never used to put shading in my drawings at all…if i did, then it was very little…It wasnt until I started Illustrating my drawings- where ive applied more depth with shading, you r drawings will have a look of more solidity and mass…
Anyways its been a while since ive posted a sketch here, Ill start of with an old one back in the day, In the attempt at creating my own characters, I was stuck on a crime fighting theme- lol trying to make a guy cool with long hair and Jacket-DIRECT RIP OFF!! he ended up looking like Terry Bogard with a goatee-quickly back to the drawing board…and tweak, chip away it till i get it somewhat right…still a work in progress to this day…lol
This more recent sketch was in life drawing- the Model was a dancer, and she had some pretty cool poses- it was originally an unfinished gesture, and I made her into chun li later on-- the Illustration on the right of the pic was done was spare time bonus-
I hated it…especially the way i drew her right hand- my old hands from 1998 was better IMHO, It only goes to show how steady practice is always needed.- i also gotta be careful of the squigly line thing going on lately, and not to step out of line when drawing female chatacers, Keep it at a proper standard…(I think Im my own worst critic on these sometimes)…:bluu:
Ok, how is this looking so far
Its that pic of alex and pat, I just started coloring but then I started getting worried. I need a little feedback, just to make sure im going in the right direction with this.
Looking good so far man. Umm… just lower the value on lining of the pants.(the part where the thread runs and connects) It’s kinda bright. So far so good.
Good movemant gunstarblaq. How did your fingers look back in 98 anyways? Overall nice and yeah you spotted your own weaknesses which means you already know what you need to work on. Everything else looks real good.
I guess another reason why I don’t shade is because I would probably want to color them sometime in the future… I still don’t have a tablet and a proper paint program… Our computer went berserk and all my files disappeared (songs, pictures, programs including Photoshop and Flash) so my computer’s pretty much crap right now… I can’t even scan…
As for your drawings Gunstar, the overall image is very unique and has great poses… The Chun-li ones was very good… You seem to use a lot of creases on clothes, huh?.. Create your own style… That’s what matters… Which artists inspire you the most anywayz?.. (Like for me, I love Kinu Nishimura’s, Senri Kita’s, and Tetsuya Nomura’s artworks)…
just messing around
its a pretty cool pic. you have the hair and the expression right though i would use rounder lines for her face. with those sharp edges, she could be mistaken for a guy. i know its ur style but maybe you could give her fuller lips and a nose that is less pointy. also, her face is usually kinda round too thin (like a supermodel’s). last comment i promise; i would try and bring her eyebrow a bit higher. those are all the little things i think of when i draw rose. this is just what i thought would make the pic better.
Here is dudley on the cover of dub magizine
Seba I got the hook up from a good friend of mine from work, and he even threw in a photoshop7,… as well also you can download programs off of the net ive found, man finally I can start doin some decent colour work at last- and The tablets I picked up at Future shop downtown, and i think the price was about 148.99 or so…the Tablet is a very cool piece indeed…
Artists? im probably really bad when it comes to names- i know its a shame…alot of artwork ive collected over the years, especially the japanese artbooks- theres a certian style I am looking for- something Leaning more towards the anime/manga style and American…I havent found it yet…
SFMC…cool sketch you have started there, quick and loose, no worries about the scruffiness, youll clean them lines up later when its More refined…as aforementioned, I Finally got a deal with a new Tablet and program, so soon after some time and practice I will be able to colour some of my illustrations properly.
Hehe thanks for the crit zen and gun. yeah my sketches are always hard edge and I clean them up later. Tiger uppercut!
Gunstar good to hear. You will be rocking some sweet fades and sketches now huh. Hadoken!
Whoah!.. That’s a deal!.. Is that tablet the big kind?.. Cuz the one I wanted to buy in London Drugs was like $300/$400 bucks… As far as Photoshop goes, I downloaded it three times in Kazaa but I can’t seem to install it… Did you know I’m in North Vancouver btw?..
check your inbox seba…actually ive sent it repeatedly by accident since my comp was stuck… sorry…
another old pick ive posted on other forums but yet with this one, also with the “create my own FIGHTING characters phase”, and the usuall rip-off type thing going on:depress:…- this was i think in 98-99 i believe…chunli/Mature/vice thing going on here…since then ive changed her up for the better with a different hairstyle and outfit
by the way anyone takin up the Gamingknights’ offer???..Im kinda busy myself, but might fire up a sketch or two…
Got your message… But I didn’t know how to reply… Hehe… That girl you drew does looks Chun-liesh/Maturish (hmm… )… But I liked it nontheless… The dressings look really clean and professional…
… Well, consider yourself lucky at least that you got yerself a Photoshop… I can’t finish up my scanning without Photoshop… Bah!.. As for the tablet, I’ll wait for Boxing Day or something… Hehe…
Here’s another original character of mine… For some reason, I made her slapping somebody…

Nice picture again, Gunstar, although I think you gave her a little too much forehead for my taste.
seba, you’ve got an interesting style going on there. I’d love to see some finished work from you. If you’re still having problems getting PS, it’s because there’s a lot of fakes and garbage floating around Kazaa. Try using torrents instead, I see a couple known-good versions at suprnova.org.
Here’s a quick sketchpainting of Akuma:
