Streets of Rage Remake (Updates in First Post)

Wow this is so cool. Having Adam back as a regular is teh greatness.

I think the best thing about it is how easy running is and the new remixed soundtrack and special effects (like the lightning during the first stage boss).

I got to the ending of Stage 8, and didn’t experience any glitches. I don’t forsee any possible way I’m going to beat two floors of guys and Super Shiva in 99 seconds though, so that basically ruins the entire game for me. I’m not going to play another 2 hours through this just to get to the only minute and a half of the game that matters and to lose with no chance of continueing. Fuck that.

I thought it was pretty well done though. It just felt odd at alot of parts. The proliferation of enemies on screen on some times felt too much and too random. Guns weren’t that great of an addition. I found myself basically just plowing through a level as soon as I got a baseball bat/katana/pipe, which I was never able to do before.

Eh, I dunno, it’s fun I guess but if I really wanna play SoR I’d rather go back to the 1-2.

Pick Axel and spam Bare Knuckle. It’s probably the most efficient move in the game in terms of speed and damage. Throw in a Dragon Smasher if you get the chance. All in all, it’s going to be hard to beat that last part with anyone outside of Axel and Shiva.

An easy way to take care of enemies with alot of HP is to pick Adam and do his combo up to the uppercut, pause a little and start over. Most enemies, especially the ones that dont block, wont be able to do shit to you.

However Axel is the best… but Adam has more range when he has weapons!

I would like to add that Adam’s dash attack is something fierce. His legs can make contact with foes, making his entire person a flying weapon.

I will admit that the game needs more tweaking and for the first six stages it feels less like a ‘remake’ and more like ‘mash-up’ of all the titles. Thought still very impressive, it only makes me wish Sega would release a new Streets of Rage soon. They keep making brawler/action-adventure titles, so why not this. Sheeeit, Yakuza is going to be a feature film in Japan so I don’t know what’s Sega deal is on SoR. Hell, Golden Axe, the weaker of the two series, has seen more ports than Final Fight.

I think what would make a great new 3d Streets of Rage is to incoporate a dectective element to it so it forces you to look for clues and find hideouts in a huge interactive city.

Zan is the best character in BK3. Best reach in the game by a mile, and a special that actually gets better with star upgrades (as apposed to Axel and Blaze whose actually get worse).

Granted, I never play him simply because I hate his character design.

Oh and real fans play BK3 not SOR3. SOR3 was fucked up big time during localization.

ParryAll with the realness. Stupid censorship and totally fucked difficulty level.

Ever since I got my hands on BK3, I’ve played that instead. But the game’s too easy compared to the U.S. version. Anyway, for SORR, here’s my take on the character from best to worst:

  1. Zan/Axel
  2. Shiva
  3. Adam
  4. Max
  5. Skate
  6. Blaze
  7. Mr. X

What I wanna know is **where is the fan translation of the BK3 story to make a true SoR3? **

That’s what we really need, not a butchering of the code like this “sequel”.

Axel and Zan on the same page? Blasphemy!

IMO, Shiva doesn’t deserve to be second. Sure his regular combo is good, but his grabs suck ass. He has nothing to effectively deal with getting swarmed and his blitz isn’t even all that nice unless it’s one on one. Come to think of it, he’s a boss killer though. His offensive special and blitz was made for bosses. But for regular enemies and deling with crowds? Hell no.

IMO it should be

  1. Zan
  2. Axel/Adam
  3. Shiva
  4. Max
  5. Blaze
  6. Skate

I hate Mr. X so I don’t include him. I hope they drop the bastard and replace him with Rudra when they’re finally done with her.

Yeaaa, that shit happened to me too. Zan just kept walking forward and straight into a wall, and wouldn’t correct his movement to go through the doorway. :annoy: FRUSTRATING. I had to wait for the time to run out, to lose a life and get dropped slightly to the left to continue. TWICE. :annoy:

AI partner is basically a detriment to the game. I first used Axel with rando-partner Max on Balanced. Not able to pick your partner? : < He basically just stayed to the far left/bottom of the screen the entire time and wouldn’t progress at any kind of good clip. Balanced didn’t seem to use any items. Only twice did he pick up an item, first time a knife I was using and second a chicken I needed when he had full health. X_X I made it most of the way with him, and after he died Blaze came in and that bitch went crazy. Evidently the partner AI will change when a new partner comes in. She ran around in insane fashion and died super quick, mainly due to getting hit by falling barrels for OHK. :arazz: Then Zan came in and I finished up with him.

So how many endings/extras have you people gotten? I took two totally different paths through the game and I’m curious how that effects your endings/bosses. First time solo as Adam, I took both UP directions when you could choose. Fought Mr. X w/ no Shiva beforehand and then dealt with the time limit fight against Super Shiva that I lost, to get Ending 3. Second run on co-op, I took the straight paths and fought Shiva then Mr. X and that was it, for Ending 2. No characters/extra modes unlocked.

Shiva is actually better than anyone else when fighting crowds with his regular combo and dash attack alone… until you fight someone who can block. I’d rather have Bare Knuckle in those cases over Spiral Flash in those cases. Shiva does however, rape bosses hard. Another good thing about Shiva though is the angle he swipes his sword, bat, or pipe. It’s perfect anti air swinging.

That’s actually in the works, but by someone else in the Bombergames forum. There’s another issue they need to address in both versions: the washed out sound.

And in SORR, What brings Adam down is his lack of a good special. I like his defensive hurricane kick, but his motion one sucks (too much lag and not enough damage).

Until this game, Skate was my favorite character, but there’s no incentive in playing him. He was always weak to a degree, but he could still deal good damage especially in SOR2.

And Max would be a little better if you could cross up enemies with his atomic drop. It’s a lot harder to get his reverse grab to connect in this version.

So what’s everyone’s favorite stage/music combo?

I just got the game and I must say that shit is too good.
Subway with SOR 3 Stage 2-1. One of my favorite songs of all. Does anyone know how to get the color edit option?

I finally stopped to take the whole 5 minutes it took to find/download this game. You
guys are all right about it. It rocks. I really am amazed at the new score or remixed
tracks they did with it. I keep using up all my 3 continues though…not that good with
keyboard, trying to bash all the baddies. Not yet anyways…

Bumping this thread because I just got done playing the game for the first time

It fucking owns. It takes everything I loved about SOR2 + 3 and combines them together to make the best SOR ever. This is definatley going on my 50 Favorite Video Games of All-Time(That project will be on SRK soon, so look for that).

There’s all new material and improvements expected in the following release. The project was never really 100%.

Shinobi Reverse, its that one ninja dude’s name in SOR3…think his name was Yamato or something. anyway, He’s the most kickass boss in the SOR games just cuz of the music.
