Streets of Rage Remake (Updates in First Post)

I’ve been keeping tabs on this for a long time and was going to res this thread whenever it was actually finished. All this shit they keep putting in is making me hype including SoR Maker.

The wait is the only real buzzkill. They don’t want to get anyone’s hopes up so they’ve been pretty mum as to the release date. The mods on the forum have even gone as far as to ban people for starting threads inquiring about when it’ll be out. It’s hard to believe that it’s been 2 years since v4.

Yeah its crazy, it was the first game I put on my laptop (that I had for 2 years as well)

I guess you havent heard of the mods pushing back the game another week everytime someone asks about a release date. As many times as Ive seen it being asked, they always keep to their word and push it back. Its been quiet lately and half of their step process is finished. I mean ripping stages from Ninja Gaiden? That’s pretty gdlk. The game should be way longer and better replay value than v4.

Just finished a game of (emulated) Streets of Rage 2.

Since receiving an offer/challenge to play SoR2 with my cousin’s fiance and his X-Box360, and my acknowledgement of the things that suggest he may actually play it (for instance, his insistence on behalf of Axel’s top-tier-ness), I have been experimenting with Mania mode. It seems that the speed of the enemies’ movement and attack are what are effected most scarily. But this is not what I want to talk about now because today I played in Normal.

I played as Blaze (as usual) and had, by my standards, a personal-best equalling (or near-as-damn it) game.

I usually play until I lose a life, and this time I made it all the way to the elevator shaft in Stage 7 (the 2nd act of that stage, if you like). I think it was one of the two fat-dudes who got me in the end, but I definitely learnt that in this stage the most important thing for Blaze is the sword. One of the Black Ninjas carried it in, and this is the crucial point. I had hold of it for a brief moment in this playthru (and also tactically used the chicken, giving me essentially two life-bars) but failed to clear myself some space with Special Attacks.

The lost health even after two or three of these would EASILY be compensated for by the possession of the sword. The enemies most likely to have the agility to win it back would be the Ninjas themselves, and it would be difficult to cheap them with all the other enemies around. But if they can be seen away, and the later waves learnt, I believe this section to be beatable, whereas before I was starting to lose hope.

So much was I enjoying this game (perhaps somewhat due to the reefer I earlier ingested) that I played on to the end. I lost my first credit just before the Robot bosses at the end of Stage 7. Learnt some interesting things about the Robots:

  • their wakeup attacks are like Abadebe’s and can be jumped safely
  • they can use their ball-and-chain attack between the second and third of Blaze’s triple blade strikes, if they are quick. She may be safe if she uses it from a distance (landing only the last two hits of the three)
  • you can cut them with the knife as they pass through the air as they travel by jumping to reposition along both axis (like the clawed Ninjas). Not massive damage, but then there is no hurry in this particular boss battle
  • once you are down to one robot, it is safer to start grappling them. Was pleased to see that Blaze can suplex them no sweat, so long as you are quick and don’t get electrocuted
  • I look forward to facing them with the sword

I think I lost a life to the Robots, KO’d by one of their suicide explosion attacks.

Stage 8 was tough but not as bad as I would have thought. The bosses are not too bad, but I did lose my second credit in the second elevator section of the game (Big’s Mansion). Shiva and Big don’t seem too bad, both being vulnerable to Blaze’s jump-in-and-grapple game, but need to become more familiar with their moves (glad Big only has two). Lost another credit during this battle.

Oh yeah and one other thing before the haters start criticising mine or my girl Blaze’s game: I played this on the pseudo-arcade version on the SP board, and in that version you get ZERO extra lives. So the game took me 3 creds to do, with zero extra lives.

On the subject of the remake, I like the idea. But I’d love to see new enemies, and a polished engine. All looks a bit MUGEN to me, but then it is better than nothing.

But hey: if Capcom heard the fans and made SFIV, then…

You played a 2-year old beta…

Hm mebbe I need to check out where it’s at now then. Gotta say it is a very exciting prospect.

And to think that, when I was a kid, my friends used to laugh at me when I said I’d programme my own version of games I loved. Glad to see some people went and did it.

Damn so where do I go to get the latest?

There hasn’t been a release since then. They’re still polishing the game.

Do you have ties to them? I just started reading this thread and several of the links on the first page are dead. When was the last time they released pics or video? I’d like to see something recent.

I don’t have direct ties with the developers. I just post on the forums and have been following their work the last few years. The dead links are a result of content being moved around as well as a server change. That’s why I put the two main links into the first post.

Rest assured progress is being made!

Port this to a vg console plzzz

:u: That’s pretty sweet.

Update on Page 1 under today’s date.

I just played the game last night and I love it. SofR2 is my favorite beat 'em up of all time and I gladly put this right below it. The music from the first stage is my favorite, and the credit music is too great. The people responsible for the game should make another game that’s similar to SofR. I’m positive it’ll sell.

Bug update is looking good. It’d be pretty hype when we get a bug free SoRR 5.0

I actually liked it that Zamza landed on his feet when you threw him…

New blog update for January 18th (page 1).

Mostly menu and cheat additions. Swords into lightsabers sound too damn good.
