I’ll end up buying one <shrug>
I’m afraid a lot of people in the community don’t understand how pricing goes with licensed products/projects. So I won’t even touch that.
If you’ve been following TE stick pricing (MSRPs) then you know with limited editions, we’ve sold them for $169.99 and $159.99 before. Normally our retail price for TE sticks are $149.99 with the exception of the Marvel vs. Capcom 2 and 3 sticks that we sold for $159.99.
Yeah we might be able to sell sticks for less if we didn’t have a game title/licensed tacked on to it. But currently we don’t have any sticks like that nor any plans to do that.
Just saying.
I’ll be be picking up one of these for sure as well…
@markman apparently not. wasn’t this the same deal you went through when you intro’d the OG TE ? Sad but eh don’t like it don’t buy it. Thanks for all the love Markman, Stay Classy.
and that it is a SD reference not Dudley.
Forget about just buying it, I’m already planning a custom mod/paint job for it!
Unf, I just got a few ideas for what some limited edition versions of the Pro might look like. Do want!
Where (as in “available” at that price)?
Not sure sure if your grasp of basic economics is all that great, with the right pricing strategy and the benefits of economies of scale an increase in profit overall is very much possible from the increased production and sales. In fact, there would have to be a significant marginal loss on each additional unit produced before such a decline in overall profitability would occur and any sound accounts/marketing function would not allow that to happen if that were the case.
TLDR: As a practising accountant I do not agree with your generalisation.
Maybe it’s time to reconsider the licensing? To be fair most of the buzz about MadCatz sticks these days are more about the hardware brand rather than related licensing.
Yeah. I bought a TE because it was a TE, not because it said Super Street Fighter IV on it.
Saw some of these at evo 2011 also, didn’t think much of it. I am sure it is not the final design, at least in terms of art and box color.
Quality of parts was no argument TE/RAP level, the main faceplate was not sloped though, I don’t feel it any different than TE other than the function button change.
Why did they make the bottom box rigged like that? Any speculations?
Same here. That licensed artwork was the first thing to go on my TEs.
What about the Asian TE’s? o_O

They would sell like hotcakes here!
It is with the people in the know, but they probably sell a lot of stuff at Fry’s and GameStop that are helped out by the Marvel/Capcom/WWE/whatever character art on the box. What happens when the PDP pad has Marvel characters on it and the other pad is plain with the old Mad Catz logo?
I do wish I’d picked up one of those MCZ-branded Japanese TEs. All sold out now afaik.
Go back a page.
You see why.
From what I understand, if the stick isn’t licensed, then Microsoft will force Madcatz to have that shitty layout. You know the one with the face buttons on the upper left. I’d pay the extra $10 to not have to have that.

Disclaimer: This is speculation, I have no inside info.
Microsoft and Mad Catz are working on a new arcade-oriented console that is essentially an add-on to the Fightstick PRO. The ridges let you place the stick in the top receptacle of the console to plug it in. The console sits in your lap under the stick, and communicates with other nearby consoles and displays via Bluetooth for pairing (“joining” local games).
Microsoft will run many focus groups and ultimately decide not to go forward with the project, because it is silly, leaving Mad Catz hanging with a half-developed product and a lot of R&D money wasted.
Years later, Mad Catz’ now-strong games division will bring it back as the MadCast, a redeveloped standalone console. People will be wary (Mad Catz bringing out a console?), but it will rise to glory and dominate the console scene for 10 years.
You’re assuming that sticks are more than just a niche product for a single genre of game (which, if we face the facts, they are).
Namco Noir.
I still want the full original art on that bitch. >:(
I have one, next time I open it to swap the buttons I’ll scan it. Someone in the original te art thread made a replica one it was pretty close.
