Street Fighter X Tekken and the FGC

I agree with both of you guys, but–as OP points out–there is a negative trend toward one certain game that a vocal minority of the SRK community has reacted negatively to and created a narrative of negativity around. And now that’s the popularly understood position of that game.

The U.S. elections coming up are a nice example of this. U.S. politics are based on “momentum,” which is just a sampling of the popular narrative built up around a candidate at a given time by public commentary. (Note here that none of our voices qualify as publicly correct in this regard and would be ignored in favor of X media outlet.) This narrative doesn’t exist in the candidate: it exists in the discourse constructed by the socio-cultural bodies for whom the candidate is performing. The video clip in the OP is pretty damn spot on.

And: this is a case of people protecting their own interests. OP mentioned this, too, and it’s received some hate, but really do try to consider that idea.

i love this game

I’ve noticed this word (derp) being used alot in the FGC, what the hell does it mean?? lol

It’s just a stupid noise.

Every comment about ‘bandwagon hype’ makes me cringe a little, it’s a weak reason to look past shortcomings (not that people parroting opinions are in the right either).

If there’s anything that’s important, it’s keeping a rational assessment of quality. Using anything other than the tangible, physical product to determine that helps no one.

its as people have been saying for a while now, people feel the need to use SFxTK as a scapegoat of sorts. Anything bad happens in SFxTK, it’s instantly 100x worse then if it had happened in AE or Marvel 3, it’s unthinkable for SkullGirls to have any flaws whatsoever mind you.

combine this with actual problems within the game and you have two different parties turning against the rest of the player base for SFxTK, namely the online community for said game and the spectators who play other games. I said this in GD already and it still stands, the Online Assist Gem debate is some stupid stuff and it’s gotten way out of hand. This, the DLC debate, Infinities and glitches, non-operational in game features(couch co-op), and Balance Issues have been running amok this board for sometime. you would think this would die down after awhile…nope not with this game, plus with all the new stuff thats constantly being discovered, no one can tell how things will end up.

there are good things that happen though, like Alex V. Announcing SFxTK will support Boost Gems at WNF and a 1v1 format. This can show if the game can support it’s self on it’s own merits. Anyways, I gotta get to work on more Gem builds…

What disappoints me most about this game…actually not just this game, SSFIVAE

The biggest flaw is most of the fanbase

Yeah, I said it.

These games are not as bad as most people say, gems don’t effect the game that bad, maybe some assist gems are pretty questionable but I find it’s just an excuse to hate on the game and the people that like it. Ryu, Ken, Raven and some others may be powerful, but isn’t there always a more powerful character in ANY fighting game, and some people act as if this is the first time it’s happened.

I don’t know, I like the game personally.

I love this game to death. It’s by far my favorite SF and Tekken title. Other than the obvious bollocks (timer, infinites, dlc on disk, Julia even being in the game etc etc) the only mistake they made, in my opinion, was making it so that you only have to beat one character to win the round. A lot of people think this game is boring to watch. I agree, yet disagree simultaneously. I do enjoy watching this game but I’ll admit it isnt as hype as some of the other games at tourneys. Although it doesnt have you on the edge of your seat like AE, UMvC3 or MK does, i feel this game, more than any, makes you physically wanna pick up your stick and play right there and then. When I’m watching a live stream i always end up having to turn the ps3 on and play the same time. No other game does this to me to the extent that SFxT does.
Back to my point though, i feel if they had made it so that both characters have to be beaten to win a round, like the tag mode in MK9, there’d be a lot more hype to SFxT. A lot of people think that the lack of a comeback mechanic, such as X factor, ultra etc (which was a massive complaint about those other games that do have them) is the reason there’s no hype to this game. People cried about them, Capcom made a game without them…and now they’re crying cos they’re not there. I’m not a fan of comeback mechanics, and i don’t think this game needs them, but i think having to beat both characters (and more time obviously) would have solved that problem. Just my 2 cents

Sorry if this doesnt make sense. I’ve been awake for 30 hours and I’mfinding it hard to string sentences together lol.

^^ Anyone else having this issue where SRK adds an extra

at the end of your post? 2nd time it’s happened to me and I’m baffled.

It’s main use is as a synonym for “retard”, or laziness. The slag herp derp or any variation isn’t fighting games specific.Where I used it, in this thread, it was in reference to someone who appeared to not have a clue what they were doing.

Either way us herp derping about this isn’t adding anything to the topic.

Except this isn’t a bunch of guys posting in the KOF or SF4 or MvC forums telling people that SF X T is a good game.

This is the SF X T forum and the people that come here are presumably interested in playing the game and want to read more from the community about it.

So this thread isn’t saying LIKE MY GAME OTHERWISE MY LIFE IS WASTED. All its saying is “Okay guys, SF X T has gotten a pretty bad rep. But it actually really is pretty good game and some of us are having a lot of fun with it. So don’t let the noise deter you from trying the game and giving it a fair shot.”

I think that’s fair.

While SFxT is monstrously flawed, sending hateful tweets to Ono, especially in light of his recent illness, is tactless.

Send them to Harada for hating on the not-that-terrible Hollywood Tekken movie while thinking his monstrously shitty Blood Vengeance is A-class entertainment instead.

I will give this game another chance later. But as for right now It still needs some tweaking.
Good shit to Vulcan Hades for toughing it out.
I promise that when I return I will not be playing a shoto.

I think people forget but it seems everytime anew fighter comes out it gets alot of heat, vanilla mvc3 got so much hate because it was random and scrubby and its hard not to say it isnt but its a fun game and they fixed alot of problems in umvc3 I feel they will fix sfxt too just gotta wait, also skullgirls is a really good game but why would you quit something to play something else? Why not play both games like someone else said sxt isnt sf4,mvc,or anything else its sfxt things that work in sf4 may or may not work in sfxt and thats fine with me

give other companies games a chance then, there is a lot of innovation on many games

just a quick thing

good players are losing to jab pressure. saw that stuff at seasons beatings, and we’ve seen poongko just destroy people with nothing but jab pressure. if it’s not that big a deal, why are all these high level players losing to it?

people don’t chant for Yun’s Genei Jin anymore. “jab jab jab jab” is the new hotness.

try to minimize the hate if you like this game, that’s cool. but some characters have really friggin good jabs that are great on block and make the already short clock even more of an issue.

*“The problem really comes down to this: people play the games they can win at, not necessarily the games they think are best.

It was too easy to run from the challenge of trying to beat the best player of one game and just go win at another. If you think about it, the two strongest periods of time for fighting games ever were during the original Street Fighter II and during the release of Street Fighter IV. Why? Because those were the only games to play, and if you wanted to play a fighting game, you had to be good enough to win, so the talent level during those two periods rose quickly and solidly.”***

Quoted from James Chen’s interview with Maxwell McGee.

Yeah, Jchensor is sure known for being a kid who lives in his own world of highschool drama. GTFO with your devaluing bullshit.

I love assholes who start posts with “I stopped reading after ____”. In other words; I’m a giant ignoramus who can’t be assed to finish a post and respect insights that differ from mine. Way to go champ, you’re the coolest guy around, definitely not a kid in highschool.

Because people don’t backdash.

it’s sad but true…i’ve only seen japanese players backdash consistently in this game. I guess everyone has the mind set that they are going to tech roll instead, since it’s apparently so good…eh oh well.

How to describe this post:

  1. Overripe
  2. Meaningless

Can you imagine an intelligent adult saying the things you just did? I mean really. You really need to untrain yourself in the ways of message forum arguing because all you did was convince yourself of your point some more.
