Street Fighter World Warrior | Resurrection | Assassin's Fist Thread

Muscle mass also ain’t the only reason why Ken and Ryu are so strong either. It’s because they’ve learnt how to control and utilise their internal ki/qi/chi energies.

Anyway is it just me that missed it or did they actually skip over the Ken+Ryu vs Gouken fight shown in the trailer?

Something that I wish had made it in was Ken giving Ryu a noogie though.

We have to note that Mike Moh who portrayed Ryu didn’t have a very long period to gain weight and condition his body in the same way as Joey and Christian did whom had been doing so for years. For Mike to even achieve the massive weight gain he got was absolutely incredible within the short amount of time he was asked to do so.

Did they set an age here for Ryu and Ken? I can’t remember, but in Assassin’s Fist they are under the legal drinking age, since you are required to be at least 20 years old to be able to drink legally in Japan. So with this knowledge already one should take into consideration as to why they don’t look as physically imposing.

Another incredibly important part that some who are complaining about their size should really look at the Actual Canon Storyline of Street Fighter.

Ryu and Ken Actual Street Fighter Canon Height and Weight in the storyline
**
Ryu - Height: 5’7 Weight: 150 lbs

Ken - Height: 5’8 Weight: 168 lbs**

**Below is the weight of the Actors Mike Moh and Christian Howard during the filming of Assassin’s Fist

Mike Moh (Ryu) - Height: 5’8 Weight: 172 lbs

  • This means Mike Moh was an inch taller and weighed a staggering 22 lbs more then the actual canon Ryu.

Christian Howard (Ken) - Height: 5’10 Weight: 187 lbs

  • This also means that Christian was 2 inches taller and weighed 19 lbs more then the actual canon Ken**

So both actors are about 20 lbs more then their actual real counterparts of Ryu and Ken. So the assumption or idea that they were too small is simply an exaggeration only when you compare them to the stylized ripped forms of their video game counterparts.

My statement on Mike Moh and Christian Howard is this…and that is that the size that they are at is perfectly fine, my feeling is that they should obtain greater muscle definition, that to me is incredibly crucial in portraying Ryu and Ken, since in the actual SF series both these characters are very defined (as well as basically every other male in the game besides possibly Rufus). With the size that they are at along with greater focus on defining their muscles I feel will make it a perfect blend.

Trying to ask them to look like super body builders is off the question, when you take into consideration how much stylized exaggerations were being put into the SF games in terms of looks. How many Chinese Females do you see whom have a define look such as Chun Li with her large, super toned and defined thighs and legs, not to mention her entire body frame.

Boxer was created back in the day as a direct portrayal of Mike Tyson, yet as huge as Tyson was, he would be a kitten compared to the Video Game Balrog whom looks well over the 300+ pounds of pure muscle. Heck E. Honda is 302 pounds in the Canon Storyline, but in-game He looks at LEAST nearly double that weight, and even though he’s supposed to be fat he carries a six pack on that wide barrel gut of his while having incredibly defined muscles all over.

Who can seriously play Zangief and Not look 10x smaller then the video game counterpart who in-game looks well over his actual 7 foot height and with his ridiculously exaggerated muscles looks to weigh like 700 pounds of pure Lean Beef. Someone like Sagat looks well above his height of 7’4, and in some artistic cases he’s portrayed visually as standing nearly 2-3+ feet taller then Ryu. Want to take it further? Look at Hugo, Canon wise he’s the tallest at 7’8, but in the game of Ultra Street Fighter 4 he looks around 9 feet tall with a chest that’s like seriously 5 feet across, while completely dwarfing all the other tall giants such as T. Hawk, Sagat, Zangief etc.

If we were to try and get real actors to be as close to their video-game/Canon counterparts as possible, we would end up having to digitally install them into the Movie.

All that matters is that when you look at Ryu, you can say “That Looks like Ryu!” or “Damn, Christian IS Ken”. They’ve achieved this, so I’m fine.

Once again, I believe Mike Moh and Christian Howard have the right size, but if their is a Season 2 that they could focus more on defining their muscles with their current weight then they would have the absolutely perfect physique for Ryu and Ken.

My only grip was that Joey played Akuma, and I’m a Purist when it comes to having the correct ethnic to the character, however I can bypass this only because of Akumas physical looks, not to mention he deserves to portray someone since he ultimately helped to make this possible. So to me, I’m fine with the characters looks and physique overall, which I feel will be even better for Season 2 if it gets the green light.

Well anyways we will just have to agree to disagree.

Moving forward I like the universe they built and I’m curious to see just how far they will take this. What if they had a spin off series focussing on final fight…given how it directly ties into the SF universe I would love to see those characters get this kinda treatment.

Ryu is 5’9" 150 lbs in WW. Mike was 5’8" 170+ lbs when he shot this. If you wanna go by accuracy, Mike should’ve lost some weight. Complaining about size is just a notch below on the retarded scale as someone claiming Ryu should’ve been white.

Edit:
Also, Gotetsu was a scrub for mashing ultra vs. Raging Demon. He should’ve known it was projectile invincible

@TrueSephiroth‌

I do agree and ultimately see your point. These characters are beyond the potential of real life actors even if someone like Nathan jones was playing sagat.

This is why I thought they should have made a animated series to overcome these barriers. However for what it’s worth I think they made solid casting choices although ryu would buff up a bit for next season.

A very comprehensive and definitive plot guide to the SF series excluding SF4. All the references are directly from the games/manuals/canonical sources.

The power levels are particularly interesting.

You niggas deserve the mixup Sennin gave you for responding to his dumbass. Keep that nigga on Ignore please

lol SenninSRk do you even SF?

How can you agree to disagree when the evidence is there in the Alpha sketches.
What about this?

If there was more time, Mike would have been cut like Chris. Hollywood productions get year or so to train, and an entourage of fitness and nutrition experts at the actor’s disposal. Then you aren’t asking these actors to bulk up and start doing backflips and all their own stunts, they have doubles to do all those things. I haven’t seen many martial art acrobats as big as Joey, I’m assuming that’s the size you’d be happy with. If you do know of anyone please point them out.

Look back at Hugh Jackman, you wouldn’t believe how much he has changed over the years.

There is no merit creating another SF anime, as people have pointed out. Fans have had their fair fix when it comes to anime. Doesn’t Capcom release a new anime with every new iteration of SF4 too?

It doesn’t matter who they are, saying dumb shit will get your shit pushed in. No exceptions here.

It’s almost 5am here and I just finished watching it.

Amazing, so good. I was always following SF’s storyline since it’s creation, and wow… it was extremely good
9/10

My thoughts:

Spoiler
  • Music and locations were SPOT ON AMAZING
  • I wasn’t a fan of Sayako, but no biggie
  • I really really liked how they paid a small amount of homage to Street Fighter 2 V hadouken with the katas before doing hadouken
  • Loved how Gouken’s dash was his dash from SF4
  • In the Ryu v Ken fight, my mind was racing on how Ken would give his hairband for Ryu as a headband. That was really well done

Last point:

I almost cried when Gouken gave the belt to Ryu

BTW anyone in London this weekend, Joey, Chris and Akira will be at ComicCon

PSSS Scott Adkins will be there too :bgrin:

Dan likely wrote his own name on the board.

Oh snap, Scott Adkins!
Could this be where Guile tells Ryu to go home and be a family man except Ryu won’t have a home nor a family to go back to?!
Hype levels rising.

LA Times have an article up too http://herocomplex.latimes.com/games/street-fighter-assassins-fist-joey-ansah-and-the-definitive-back-story/
It’s going viral

best fighting game live-action adaptation, even surpasses Mortal Kombat, though it is a few years late. But with a much lower budget.
but as a 2.5 movie and with very few battles, it would have a few pacing issues. 12 episodes work better and it doesnt turn out boring.

there is actually an anime series with similar plot where that scenario happens, though with a twist!

like with Goro and Motaro in MK. The irony was that Shao Kahn looked like a dwarf compared to his actual height

Actually, Assassin’s Fist sucks because Ken and Ryu don’t have gigantic feet like in SF3!! Wtf!! So disappointed… like why can’t they find some martial artists who are jacked, 5’8, and wear size 15s?

You can’t really compare the SF char models and artwork to real life… they are over exaggerated. Yes, in WW they should be more ripped, but like others have said, this is just the beginning.

I like how it seems that they’ve borrowed or paid homage to bits from other Street Fighter productions (aside from the games).

As stated, there was the pre-hadouken kata from SFII V. Goutetsu on the other hand is based not on his canon appearance, but on how he looked like in SF Alpha Generations. Speaking of which, the Heaven symbol appearing in the sky is also taken from Generations. Meanwhile, the bits where Gouken it talking to Ken and giving him advice somehow reminds me of how he talked to Ken in the Animated Movie before the latter left.

Generations has horrible animation and horrible ENG voice acting. But the intro is awesome and it the best part of the entire movie. Just the first 2:40. That’s all you need to see. The SGS is even more brutal in Generations than in AF.

One thing that’s been bothering me.

Spoiler

Why were the two flags on when Gouken finally caught up with them?

Lol I love that little fight Ryu has with the monk at the beginning. Also, Ryu green duffle bag.

What scene are you referring too?

Right after…

[details=Spoiler]Akuma does the SGS on Goutetsu.

It also shows Gouken flat on his back so it seems to indicate some sort of explosion, or lightning strike. But other than the SGS itself, there’s like an explosion or lightning strike in that sequence of events.[/details]
