I just think that with Capcom trying to do a better tutorial mode, emphasis on Versus mode and Online Versus’ little ranking, statistics, and etc. that they’ll try to lure non-competitors to be competitors. I think having too much of a robust single player mode will satisfy players to the point that they may not try out the multiplayer aspect of the game. The way the game package is balanced right now that there’s enough to whet the palette of single player enthusiasts and there is promise of more stuff later this year. In the mean time, they could try out the other modes and see what CFN is all about, especially since CFN is strategically positioned in the center of the main menu as to draw the attention of people.
Will it work? Might, might not, and it might to an extent/spectrum. That’s how I see it at least.
I think the game being put out now is more about meeting deadlines for Capcom Pro Tour more than anything to have a proper tournament season for the year.
Let’s be honest though; arcade mode is the most basic of basics when it comes to fighting games. It’s really surprising that it won’t be present at launch.
I agree with ya. Having the game now, and the rest of it coming along free ( as it should ) is fine. Most of us here see it as a early access beta with the full game coming in March. This is likely so that tournaments and what not can host the game on schedule. The issue is though which could potentially hurts sales is that the casual fan isn’t gonna see it that way. They’re not in the loop and aware of these things like we are. So at face value it’s gonna look like they are paying 60 bucks for a barebones game lacking a lot of content.
This is why some of us here are stressing the importance of communication and PR. If Capcom had just simply informed the gaming community of this. Then casual gamers can make a informed decision or weather or not to buy the game now or wait till march. They wont feel ripped off, and will feel like Capcom cares to some extent. Like someone said earlier. Capcom put so much effort into appealing to the mainstream, but dropped the ball here on something so basic.
I’m laughing at this lack of content will hurt the game from review sites. You know many other games lacked basic features at launch and still got high marks anyway? Star Wars Battlefront, Evolve, Titanfall, Splatoon, Rainbow Six Siege. Notice how all those are multiplayer focused games just like SFV.
I dont really care about any of those features (except costumes, I do care about that). However, I care about being charged $60 for a game that only includes online and training mode, that is a rip off and is just pure BS by Capcom. Also, don’t even try to give me a “that is market price” argument, because I paid $60 for GGXrd, a game that has infinitely more content than SF5.
The game is promoting competition and community. Not you playing by your lonesome against the CPU. We only got one trailer for single player last month and it tells you it will be released in June as a free update.
But all those features will come in like two weeks free of charge. It’s not like they’ll be waiting a year for those basic features or charging for them. You’re being kind of harsh man. I really don’t see anything wrong with this other than Capcom goofing by not communicating their reasons for this. ( Likely so that tournaments hosting events for the game before March can stay on schedule ) Thus giving the perception that they’re just releasing an unfinished game because fuck you we’re an evil gaming corperation, it’s what we do. Edit: If Capcom had just said this was an early access Beta and the full game is coming out in March. I don’t think anyone would be raising a stink at all.
I’m 30 and have been playing “to win” off and on since '99. I get what Capcom is doing with SFV and what the end product will be, but gamers younger than me who make up most of the video game market don’t know the score and they shouldn’t start a bad reputation with them. In the early 00s game developers made a huge mistake over pandering to non-competitive gamers, Soul Calibur being the best example of this, but relying completely on the competitive is also a mistake.
This whole thing about everyone complaining being casuals is pretty much the nonsense i would expect 2 hear.
I get that u guys aint bothered about the lack of content and that Capcom r trying 2 give players a jump start on the tournament scene. A lot of the stuff missing on launch we did kno about and I dont have a problem with a lot of it, but correct me if im wrong they only just officially annouced that we would only have 2 person lobbies and no spectator mode that shit is basic come on guys
Just want to say that I’ve never been on GameFAQs and that I have no idea who the guy who’s copied my entire post is. I know none of you guys will believe me, but me and ‘FireMadePrime’ are two completely different people.
I don’t really think I am being too harsh. Regardless of how you see it charging $60 for this is too much. If it turns out that in 2 weeks (which is kind of a long time imo) ALL of those features are added then so be it, I was wrong. However, at this point I don’t really trust anything Capcom says, so we’ll have to wait and see.
LOL, you being serious? I’m not saying I want the other content immediately, cuz they obviously can’t handle the workload. But, seriously, you trying to say what we have now from a visual presentation standpoint isn’t horribly rushed and already garbage quality visual presentation-wise? Is the character story art//stage&npc polycount/texture quality//clipping issues//lip syncing//alot of voice acting work// really holding any standard of quality? It’s already extremely low quality in all those areas, other than gameplay.
I don’t want them to rush, and I expected this and already saw that it was gonna be a beta at launch and accepted it. If you’re trying to say that the little we have now is of acceptable quality though, and ok for the future stages and stuff to release at this same quality - that’s just sad. All that stuff needs to be fixed before they start going crazy with more DLC characters/stages/titles/etc.
Literally the only 2 modes that 95% of the this site uses the most. You guys are free to argue about this shit on facebook, gamefaqs, eventhubs, sewing circle, while getting your nails done or after your pre-k teacher asks you guys what you did during the weekend.
But to come to the website of competitive fighting game hobbyists and complain that the game you bought came with the two things they care hte most about is hilarious. I’ve had XRD on my PC now since X-mas. I have 268 hours ( and still ass at this game). the majority of that time was spent playing online. What good has any other feature in this game done? Outside of needing to do shit to unlock Sin, my PS3 version didn’t fare much better in using extra modes.
They’re nice to have, they’re there essentially to sell it to casual players and for when people in this site wanna have some fun on the side. But really, I’ll take a 15 dollar version of SFV that only had those two things.
DevilJin solved this last page. Everyone should really just be getting this for like 30-40$.
Everyone here basically agrees that it’s a shitty practice that it’s shipping barebones, some are ok with it, some are not.
Reviewers are gonna skewer the game, but mention that in a few weeks it’ll be better. That won’t change the fact that mainstream release hype will have died by the point the update comes, and it’ll cut into Capcom’s sales.
However, Street Fighter is a game that sells well throughout it’s life, not in a release burst, so ultimately, this won’t hurt capcom.
Cinematic story mode, I can wait for that. But no full lobbies or trial mode is bullshit. And we can’t even unlock the story mode costumes until march? WTF capcom. It’s like the only thing they want us to do is mindlessly grind out ranked matches.
