Making the game free for PS+ members in a few months can always bring in a lot of new players. And since this game is going the LOL dlc/add on model it would make since to just get the game in as many peoples hands as possible.
I don’t know about making the whole game free, but releasing a free version of the game with access to online play and 2-4 characters is definitely the way to go.
I like free to play DOA5 style Core Version better. Don’t have to put anymore damn discs on the shelves (PC discs are slowly becoming nonexistent any way) and it’s about the easiest point of entry. Get people to try a little bit of the game (a few characters or whatever) for free and they can always buy the rest at their own leisure. Gets people initiated without any investment and easiest way to up the player base without having to commit to create more physical content to sit on shelves.
Latest Media-Create sales. Feb 29th->March 6th SFV sold 6,357 units. Down from 11,206.
Steam Feb 29th->Present sold somewhere between 4,986 and 11,686. Down from 14,795 Feb 22nd->28th.
I don’t care about single player stuff, I know most of you don’t either. I get why people are hacked off about it though. Everyday when I log on I grow weary of the long load times, the bugginess of the menus, the hit or miss of the battle lounge. Tonight was the first night that I turned off my ps4 early. We are almost a month after launch and those issues above haven’t even been addressed. My hype is starting to fade.
Let’s be honest, Shonen Jump is INSANELY popular and I’m pretty sure that game outsold SF4 at launch. Back in 2012 one of the One Piece games sold over 650k on release week in Japan alone. In 2013 Naruto Storm 3 sold over 1million in a month just in Europe/USA, not counting Japan
Loading times are so bad that I have figured out a solution as a PC player. I play the game windowed and alt-tab out and watch movies in-between loading and searching. I have discovered that I spend more time load/searching then actually playing. I think 1/4 of the time was just SF5 showing me a rotating earth.
Agree. They should wait until the final DLC character is out and then put the game as a free title for PS+ members the same or the following month in its base version (without the characters). Then they’d be able to a) increase the player base significantly with a product that’s more complete than the launch version and b) still make some profit off it in case some of those players want to spend money on the season pass or the DLC characters.
Considering Sony is their partner it shouldn’t be too much to ask for a free PS+ version only seven or eight months after release. And I genuinely think this could help the game going into 2017.
Capcom has to be so fucking broke to have the nerve to release their flagship game like this.
I wonder if we see a buyout by a big company anytime soon.
