I agree. I don’t care about all the fluff content except the lore. I like the characters and just want something decent, not a novel.
However…I am not ignorant or blind to the fact that my needs are actually the smallest portion of the genre’s playerbase. Nor am I ignorant or blind to the fact that the content we got with our purchase with severely lacking(single player stuff) or out-right broken(online)
Hence, my anger at the product I purchased. Which I cannot return as one potty-mouthed moron keeps screaming, as I have the digital copy. I’m stuck with my purchase forever, good or bad.
(I wouldn’t return the game anyways. Despite the glaring flaws, it is a fun fighter)
Doesn’t mean I’m not going to voice my dissatisfaction with rest of the product, however.
Until you make top 8 a normal thing in majors, not your circle of 6 friends, you yourself cannot say jack shit, going by your post.
A person’s skill at a damn video game doesn’t mean they can’t voice their opinions, good or bad. To imply such is not only arrogant, but fucking stupid as well.
I think actually a lot of the people on the “supposed” side actually agree with you that the game WILL be way more stable and content rich…but they (or at least I) also feel that this might be beyond the pale for Capcom. After years of their bungling, mismanagement and seeming contempt for their player base…this might be too far. This is the line that’s been crossed…the straw on the camel’s back. The irony is kind of that a lot of the “anti-SFV” (though we really generally speaking aren’t against the game itself) are mad because this launch pissed away a HUGE opportunity to bring in and win over casual players if only for a little bit. Personally, I was hoping that this game could get some of my lapsed friends back into SF…but it’s turned them off even more. That has me…pretty much absolutely livid with Capcom. I’ve put in time trying to hype the game for people, reviewing it positively for gameplay throughout the demo on the radio, selling it to friends…and Capcom basically came in and took all that good will and set it on fire in front of me because they’re, apparently, total fucking idiots.
That is making people mad. Very mad.
Would it be so bad if not for things like MVC3? And SFxTekken? And…and…and…and from Capcom? No, absolutely not. This would be MUCH quieter and smaller if Capcom still had the sort of fan faith they had after SF4…but Capcom CHOSE to waste all that faith time and time again…and now they are reaping the whirlwind. Is it fair to SFV? No. It is fair to CAPCOM? Yes, absolutely.
The irony though is that the “anti” crowd seems to be those that actively want the community to grow…while those that want to just shut-down all conversation that criticizes or totally just stonewall opinions are “pro” SFV but are taking a stance that is so toxic against casuals & newcomers (hah…all newcomers are casuals at first) that they are, in a real tangible way, more anti-Capcom/anti-SFV than the anti people because of how much damage chasing away casuals does to a game like this.
Anti’s are mad because Capcom pissed on their parade and, in some cases, totally undermined efforts.
Pro’s are mad because casuals (and some die hards) are mad that they aren’t seeing value.
Well…ironic that getting mad at Capcom can lead to growth while getting mad at casuals guarantees loss.
Thanks for confirming your reading comprehension is fucking garbage considered i pretty much spelled out my point to you and you still failed to grasp it. Now iknow what i am dealing with
Irrelevant, im not comparing KI to SFV.
Also irrelevant to the conversation.
Finally you managed to get on topic. Bravo.
Tekken 3 demo could get you into its community to, its 4 characters are complete, you can take what you learned there to any get together and join in on the fun, the only difference here is that you actually have to show up, with KI you can just stay home in your underwear. The only difference between the the two is KIs demo is upgradable and has an online component, and all the online component does is make it so you can be lazy and not have to meet up with people to play. It really doesn’t change the product as much as you would like to pretend it does.
Im not heated, I just have very little patience and sympathy for people who cant even adress the things I actually said, and have to talk about crap completely irrelevent to said things. Half your post up there was a complete waste because it was irrelevant to what we where talking about.
I’ve literally worked in game design. This game is a clinic in bad design, bad community management, bad monetization schemes, and bad crisis management. If SRK is where you go to get away from people who care about ‘arcade mode’ maybe you need to find a new shelter. What you’re really trying to do is get away from new players or people who enjoy the lore/art/design of the SF series, and considering this is a new game hiding in the most well known fighting game forum is probably a bad place to hide.
Guess how many of those $60 fighting games from the last few years with awesome single player content I bought or gave a fuck about? 0. I spent maybe an hour playing Injustice (bought by my roommate) and another hour with GG:Xrd (pals bought it). MK:X didn’t even get on my radar because, lol MK.
Yet I bought SFV knowing full we that it would have basically zero single player content at launch. The only reason I’ve only got in 60 hours between the beta/live is real life obligations; I’d be quite happy to crack out more.
What does that tell you? There are quite a lot of fighting game fans that buy fighting games to play fighting games with other players. Many of us don’t really give a flying fuck about single player content. World Tour mode in the PS1 version of Alpha 3 was kinda fun I guess. I like combo trials too. But all of that are either distractions or crap to do to unlock something for multiplayer.
So while some of you have been trying to convince the rest of us why we ought to be outraged, I’ve been having a helluva time playing the actual game.
As many people have mentioned over and over on these forums, the “many of us” you talk about who are on these forums make up a fraction of a percent of people who purchase this game. The other 99.x percent of people who purchase the game are the ones that Capcom need to worry about since they are what pay the bills.
First, @NickRocks I’ve been playing SF since I was 11 years old in 1991 when SF2 first hit arcades. Don’t assume my join date here means fuck all. Also, that join date is actually wrong, as I long ago forgot my email/password of my original account from nearly 10 years ago. By the way, Infiltration is an 09er. NuckleDu is an 11er. Totally matters when someone enters the FGC, though, right genius? Moving on.
I only really give a damn about Capcom’s fighters, as I prefer the 2D style to 3D fighting. I care even less about MK. And while I have also been having a blast playing the game, online and off, and also don’t give a shit about the single player content…I do understand that the people who do care about playing in tournaments, people who do care about optimal punishes, and things like option selects…are the VAST VAST minority in regards to any games playerbase. That playerbase is what drives sales. That playerbase is what determines if a game will get another game a few years later.
Without the casuals who don’t give a fuck about the things WE care about here on SRK…there would be no FGC. Because there wouldn’t be any games for us to play the way we do.
To quote UltraDavid from the UltraChenTV episode that aired week of the launch: “You don’t piss off the casuals” James Chen even told a story about his own brother has very little to do in the game, simply because of how he enjoys playing fighters.
The point so many are making is that while the game does play great, it is factually obvious that it is missing content, or has broken content that the vast majority care about. This is very, very bad for both Capcom as a company considering all their fuck ups the past decade(Sup Mega Man Legends 3) as well as Street Fighter V’s potential for growth. A potential that was sky high prior to launch, but a potential that has plummeted due to the well deserved criticism of the game.
Can SFV recover? Sure can, if Capcom plays their cards right. Keep in mind though, that if Capcom had released the game, and not one person bitched about the sad excuse of a state it was in…Capcom would make no improvements, as they would think the game is just fine. This is how feedback works. Positive or negative, this is simply how feedback works.
If you think Capcom would have done a damn thing about the rage quitting epidemic going on if everyone stayed silent, your deluded. Capcom are the ones who caused the problem in the first place. It was the complaints that’s changing things, for the better I might add.
“Of course, we really only care about the actual raw gameplay, but the casual $'s are going out the window because the content is so lacking”
“herpderpderp you sux becuz you care about fluff modes! Git gud scrub!” goes online to get bodied by Rookie leaguers
“Uh…yeah we already said WE don’t have a huge issue with the content but that it IS an issue for the game because it is hurting its sales and that hurts the game in countless ways”
“LOLOLOL only scrubs care about that shit, GTFO” goes online…waits 3 minutes to find a match…gets rage-quit on…waits 2 more minutes…gets disconnected
“…that is exactly the point we’re making. Kind of. Except we’re using the term “casuals” and “new players” instead of scrubs because it’s more accurate…but those players, if they have a hook into the game, can become die-hards that pump life & money into the game”
“We don’t need shitty casuals that don’t want to play, you shitty casual!” goes online, can’t find anyone to play against…wonders why. Later will go on to bitch about why fighting games don’t get enough press, enough coverage, enough sequels and enough money pumped into them
Considering the level of discourse some people are showing here, combined with the learning curve of fighting games…I can only imagine a large number of them just face-smash their heads against the controller because…Jesus Christ.
Problem is and continues to be that you guys are complaining about features that have never come close to being the focus of SRK. Coming here to complain about story mode is like going to Capcom Unity to try and get better at Street Fighter.
Just like when we had to hear about casual bitching about how cheap looking KI was and the UI wasn’t flashy enough and its terrible because TJ Combo and Cinder aren’t in, this is that era for SFV.
When we get past it it’ll be a good day. A good day that should come a lot sooner than it did for KI
Don’t worry, after you drive all the new players out you’ll be back to your tiny niche community with its terrible reputation. Balance will be restored.
