Maybe if you spent less time bitching about arcade mode and using regional matchmaking you’d feel better. Maybe when people stop looking at how inviting and helpful the community actually is they’ll stop getting their information about it from DJWheat and kotaku.
Doesnt matter how much you guys want to complain about it, this isnt capcom’s official website to discuss all the issues for casual players. This one particular site is for competitive street fighter/capcom fighting games enthusiasts. No amount of whining in this place will magically make random shit appear in SFV. On the other hand, when you decide you want to get to learning street fighter in a bit more serious way, this place will be more than happy to help you.
The hilarious thing is that the casual player (people who dont consistently attend tournaments) far outweighs the competitive. But the main focus is to learn these games and get better at them. Sorry we dont have sick story mode strats.
people point out reasons why sales numbers are south of where they should be
people bitch at “casuals” for saying why they don’t feel the game is a good value to casuals leading to low sales numbers
people claim this isn’t the place to explain why sales are bad despite it being a sales thread
Sorry, but if the other die-hards in this thread were so adamant about SRK being a place ONLY for learning and getting better at SF they’d be in the goddamn character forums reading & posting instead of spending time in this thread. Right? Or…is this somehow getting folks better at SF? Some secret strat I’m unaware of?
Well, I’m decent at fighters. SF in general as I only play Street Fighter and Virtua Fighter pretty much. Have some videos online if someone wants to check that I’m not scrub tier, solid intermediate player. I knew full well this was going to be a barebones launch, and I already have gotten my $60 worth because I play the game everyday. However, I’m still pissed at Capcom here because it seems like a blown opportunity to get my casuals players.
Most arguments for releasing this game early is to give FGC more time with the game and perhaps because of fiscal year end (March 31st for many public companies) and I’d say they could have saved the release at least until this last patch. Releasing the game without 2 of the menu items greyed out just screams “BETA” to many people. And add on the no Arcade mode, when the game is fully capable of having it is just poor design. I feel like the casual players could have been relatively easily satisfied, or at least more satisfied than 1 star reviews on Amazon with just one more month of content, let alone the what the game will look like in June or July.
Arcade Mode (it’s basically in the game already)
Trials
Daily Challenge
The tutorial videos from youtube linked in the game
Survival
Story Mode
Store front open, even if it was limited.
How much more effort would that have taken? This could’ve been delayed by as little as a month for this amount of content IMO. So that’s why I’m “pissed”. I want the game to sell 2 million not half a million. How many more people will Capcom be able to draw in is anyone’s guess. but if they aren’t prepared to basically sell a starter addition on PS+ for like $15 with just Ken/Ryu then I can’t even take the PR seriously at this point that they are really trying to draw the userbase. Heck, even with this roadmap, Capcom could have avoid all the backlash with just a digital only release and call it early access. Full release of the game is in June. They could have still charged full price for it even. A year from now, if SFV is setting at 2 million copies sold and a million people playing online, this will just be a flash in the pan. But yeah, I love the gameplay, but still salty at how this was handled. The franchise should be treated with more dignity and respect, it’s not hard to understand what is expected from a fighter in 2016.
If the main focus is to learn the game and get better, can I assume SFV comes loaded with an excellent tutorial mode? Is training mode fantastic as well? Just wondering, cause those are very important especially for new players who don’t have a ton of experience in other fighting games.
Ooooor just ask and people will probably be happy to help you if they can, as has been the case on this site for years.
Frankly with threads like this and all the other bitching and whining threads I’d probably go ask for help in FGD or GD, trying to sift through all the “Waaaah this is SFV frame!” “Waaaaah missing features!!” “Waaaaaah colors are too much of a grind!” threads I would think i somehow stumbled onto CapUnity or Eventhubs or something and try to find somewhere less whiney to ask for help. Pretty clear round these parts people care more about Arcade Mode and Story Mode then they do the actual meat of the game anyway. Aside from the dedicated video threads the character sub forums aren’t much better then the main one.
If the SFV forum has taught me anything its that all the answers to your questions should be baked into the game, no need to discover how things work on your own, no need to interact with the community for help and understand, nope just a huge ass training mode with all the shit you ever need to know in the game right away. That way you dont have to come to big bad scary SRK and interact with the riff raff.
Meanwhile I’m on other threads actively trying to help people with the game despite not being that great myself. What a douche! Discussing sales in the sales thread! God I’m an asshole.
Also, crying about hyperbole then going on that rant right after is, once again, hilarious. Oh and, one more time, this is the general forum. Are people posting this stuff in character forums and threads? No? I haven’t seen any on the Necalli character board I’m always on…so gonna guess that’s a no for the others as well.
You’re bitching about people in a sales thread saying why sales are hurting and working yourself into a flat-out embarrassing tizzy over people not just using SRK to train and get better when you are actively participating in a thread not devoted to system tech or training to get better? Apparently on one hand you want to say this community is so great and awesome and helpful…then say the community including the character threads are full of garbage? Okay, sure. Logic ahoy.
If you aren’t interested in the discussion and your emotions fly THIS out of control, don’t read the thread much less reply to it…or do you like bumping to the top of the forum a thread that contains content you apparently despise being on SRK? Again…logic?
Hell, even the fact that you’re actively bitching about the possibility a game might have a robust & thorough training mode is some pretty self-indulgent “I love the smell of my own farts” bullshit. What’s wrong? Afraid casuals might learn enough to beat your ass or something without putting in the time at SRK like a super-elite? Heaven forbid! If SFV had the best training mode ever that turned casuals into mid-tier players without ANY outside help, that would be one of the best things to EVER happen to the community and the genre regardless of how small it might make some peoples SF e-peen feel. They’d just have to get over it.
Maybe you should put in the signup rules that this is only a place for people to talk about how plus on block the light tatsu is, and that people aren’t allowed to discuss the game they just bought in the dedicated subforum specifically about that specific game.
It’s not hilarious to try and build a thriving community with a successful game that reaches out to new players. League of legends did that. It currently has ~2,300 times SFV’s player base and is selling out sports Arenas with its pro scene. Maybe when you want your community to stop being the equivalent of competitive amateur backward wrestling you’ll start paying attention to the fundamentals of community building. The most basic part of welcoming in new players is creating a safe space for them to learn and adapt to the new game and genre. That’s what single player is.
There were those claiming the same thing back when SFIV first dropped.
You’re welcome to do so. You just have to realize that not everyone is going to agree with you.
We have a subforum designed to help new players ease into fighting games and the FGC. You’re welcome to ask all the newbie-related questions in the newbie dojo you want. People being dicks there to new players are dealt with. If you want a safe place to post, you’re welcome to go there.
And they were right. It returned fighting games to a viable genre, but the FGC remained microscopic next to any other popular gaming community. Gaming has exploded in the last decade, fighting games have grown slower than any other genre save maybe RTS. The incredibly hostile new user experience is the singular reason why.
And I don’t expect them too. The community of people who want nothing to do with new players or single player content is pretty sizeable.
I wasn’t talking about posting environment, I was talking about the value of single player content in creating a community by providing a safe space for new players to learn. 99% of players will never interact with a forum for the games they play. Providing a late 90’s technology standard (online bb forum) unendorsed by the game and inhibited by its lack of social features isn’t going to smooth the onboarding experience very much.
True. You ought to also recognize that you are statistically insignificant and by catering to you, Capcom has squandered a great sales and marketing opportunity. By attending to your needs first at the expense of the casual majority, Capcom has jeopardized the financial future and reputation of this franchise.
If you can’t see this to be true then you are either a troll, or this discussion is well beyond your intellectual capacity.
I don’t understand the discussion about whether the FGC is welcoming or not. The FGC is a pretty friendly community but also a meritocracy. Basically no one cares what you think until you prove competence or knowledge. Humility is expected before that. Once you understand this, 99% of FGC social interactions make sense.
The lack of single player content is SF5 specific. Most players don’t care about single player content because its largely a waste of time once you move onto competing. There’s no conclusions to be drawn from that except that sf5 has had a whack launch.
I never said they where bitching about this subject in those forums, i said those aren’t particularly great. My post wasn’t a rant.
I’m not in a tizzy. Doss making assumptions about my mood and feelings somehow do something for you? This is the second time you’ve made claims about my mood, and for the second time your way off. I don’t really give a fuck either way dude, Im judt waiting for my bus stop. Im not making assumptions about your mental state, stop doing it with mine, it makes.you.look stupid.
This is a great community and it is a great place to learn and discover new things about these games, but that doesn’t really seem to be what people want. They want fluff modes and every little thing explained to them so they dont have to put in the work to find it themselves, which isn’t even that hard when you have the internet. It would be nice to have that in game, but people act like its imparative when a simple google search will find you a lot more then any training mode explination will get you.
The hell is with you and my emotions? My emotions are not out of control, you seriously sound like someone who has no leg to stand on and had to try and find some outside the conversation issue to talk about in order to try and distract from the fact you don’t have shit.
I don’t dispise this thread, it’s a thread, there’s nothing here to really give a rats ass about, and i dont care if it gets bumped or not, it really doesn’t matter. If you dont like the content of my posts then use the ignore function. I will continue to post in and bump any thread i feel.like bumping whether i think its a good thread or not.
I’m not that great at fighting games, so getting good enough to beat my ass in SF isn’t that hard, nor is it something worth caring about. I have no problem with SFV having a robust training mode, I just dont think its fucking essential like a good number of you guys seems to think as if there is no way to learn how to play SF unless theres a super robust training mode that teaches you everything. You guys are on this deluded tip that if SFV has an amazing training mode that teaches you everything that the casuals wills stick around. Hate to burst your bubble but no they wont. GGXrd has a greate newbiews training mode that teaches you tons of shit about the game. guess what its pretty fucking dead here, casuals all left. Skullgirls has a robust trainer. Games on life support. VF had a siiiiick as fuck trainer on PS2 back in the day, games still dead as fuck and always has been here. These training mode explinations dont keep casuals and scrubs around. If its there that is fantastic, but if its not it really doesn’t have any bearing on if a game is going to have a scene or not, and the newbies and casuals who upgrade to real players where going to do that regardless of the depth of the training mode for newmies mode.
Lol @ me afraid of people being better then me when most people are. Its like talking with a 1st grader over here. Dudes using shaming tactics from 2006 in here
Or i understand it just fine, I just dont care. Cuz i really don’t. Ive gotten 8 people into this game just by inviting them over to play. Didnt need the single player mode at all. All that sales shit is Capcoms problem, not mine. If the game fails.then there are thousands of other fighters for me to play, its not the end of the world if SFV doesn’t take off.
I will never switch on any offline mode but training room. But the online is balls as well.
Make no mistake there are hundreds of casual players out there ( thousands?) that switched online and got this -
-Weird disconnections when they were about to win
Keep playing the same guy lots?
I can’t seem to find anyone in that battlelounge thing, it gives me Japanese people?
Why does it disconnect often?
A lot of my matches do this weird teleport thing, what is that?
My points didn’t update there?
Well I tried this fighting game stuff, but it’s a bit strange, it seems buggy and I don’t have any other modes I can play. I think I’ll just return this.
Switch the genre, if this was your first - FPS game experience, would you keep playing?
You and everybody like you are ungrateful “gamers” and by “gamers” I mean random nobodys with a common interest in wasting time in front of a television, and you are trying to tell Capcom how to do their job.
I have never seen anybody trek around the globe like “Ono” to attend ten to twenty community-events a year but here you are talking out of your ass about “contempt for their player base”.
You are an ungrateful no-clue nobody.
If you feel it’s justified to shit on SFV then you should know how it feels to get shitted on too, and nevermind the fact that Capcom spent more time and energy with SFV than you did with your rambling nonsense of a post in 3 minutes of your leisure time. Capcom’s hundreds of thousands of hours spent into SFV is more worth than your pathetic 60 fucking dollars, you fucking a-holes. If you can’t return a digital game then that’s NOT Capcom’s fault, but still all you all do is complain, complain and complain.
Then do it, and take your stupid avatar-picture with you.
“Our loss”? Wow, you’re terribly mistaken. Good bye!!!
If you want to debate, then let this be said; if you reply then it means you don’t understand shit, and if you don’t reply then it means you’re starting to reflect.
I’m glad to know that Ono getting free international meals and travel justifies him delivering a broken game and cratering Capcom with a level of decision making I would associate with someone trying to intentionally destroy the business they work at.
