Street Fighter V sales thread... Serious discussion please

I’ll give them $27 if they put Sagat in.

Yep, I agree with that 100%. Adding a couple chapters from the story (when it
comes out) to try and get people to want to know how it ends.

The Sony partnership helps that idea a lot to because they can heavilyyy advertise “SF5 lite” in the PlayStation store. Not to mention how many people check out the PS+ free games just for the heck of it

Yeah, I’m feeling this too.

They should stick to their development schedule this year, but plan on release a ‘super’ update of the game before the end of the next fiscal year. A complete relaunch of the game with all the lessons learned is the only way to save this game in the long term at this point.

People won’t buy this game for story mode in June anymore, they will watch it on youtube. People won’t buy this game for Juri or Alex alone. But people will buy this game with all the above repackaged along with other goodies, with a note saying ‘I’m sorry’.

Releasing a free but limited demo of the game with online access is also the way to go for this model and shows that Capcom are not necessarily after your money, but truly vested in making this game great.

sigh There is no fixing this. Capcom is just going to have to bite the bullet on this one or abandon it like SFxT

And that’s sad… Cuz if we actually look at the gameplay… Damn this is so awesome but still the sales are shit.

It’s like with SFIII

If they do make a Super or Season 2017 disc/download it has to be something that isn’t necessary to purchase for people who have the game already. They also have to make sure to advertise extremely well that it’s not mandatory to purchase. Otherwise the general public who doesn’t research the game at all will again just see advertisements for a new version and simply go “oh great, they’re releasing a Super/Apology edition, can’t wait to be forced to buy the Ultra edition, I think I’ll save my money”.

The only reason SFxT died was because Capcom had room to let it die. They had another SF game and Marvel game they were already making money with. SFV is the only next gen fighting game they have so they will work with it to make sure it goes for 6 years. We can only guess what their plan is, but they have a lot of options IMO. Ones we’re probably not even thinking of or don’t realize. Especially with a brand like SF.

If they are still trying to get new people, that ship has sailed unless they release some kind of updated (super, ultra, etc), which they said they wouldn’t be doing. Introducing new content to the same platform wont bring new players in IMO. Most people will see it as just the same ol broken game and that sucks because the game it self (fighting part) is very good and fun. THey just made a really bad overall product.

I guess they can just stick to the plan and have us hardcore players, like what was said here. Its like SF3 and that was pretty bad (sales/popularity wise).

I’m going to point out that, while SF3’s graphics and gameplay were fantastic, one of the reasons the game didn’t do as well was because Capcom pissed off the casual playerbase by having an all-new cast of characters when SF3: A New Generation launched, and only 3(Ryu, Ken, and Chun) by the time 3S rolled out.

They ignored the largest portion of their playerbase, and the damage caused a 10 year gap between 3s and SF4.

…and here we have Capcom repeating the mistake by pissing off the casual playerbase, this time due to a total lack of content.

Now that I’ve talked about it, I’m going to go hop on my PS3 and get my ass handed to me on 3SOE. Love the game…totally suck at it, haha.

Street Fighter was already dying before SF3 released. Street Fighter would have still went into a dark ages even if SF3 never came out. Alpha 3 came out afterwards and the general public still wasn’t really fucking with SF like that no more. You couldn’t even play SF3 on a console until about the year 2,000 on a system that wasn’t popular with the public. The arcades were already dying before SF3 even hit.

I think you can slowly bring in more casuals over time. They won’t have the big casual revolution people were hoping them to have immediately, but the game can very much survive on that.

Even in the game’s current state, we still have almost 4,000 people going to Evo just for Street Fighter V so we’re still clearly no longer in a dark age regardless as far as the amount of people playing competitively goes. With the advent of social media and the general advances in the way information travels in 2016, I think there’s a lot of options to slowly get casuals back in. Either way this game is set to have more people actively playing online everyday than MKX or KI any way.

WTF?! Alpha 3 came out later than SF3? O_o

You gotta point

Seriously? The only reason SFxT died was because Capcom allowed it to happen because they didn’t care about it succeeding? Really?

Not enough gems.

Really? I for one would have been much happier when I played SFIV (when I was new) if I could just upgrade the game I already have and not buy a new every few years even IF the new game was alot better each iteration… Many people might buy the game now and go back to it in a few years and be amazed how much new content there is. If the game become really big, it wont happen until a few years anyway.

I meant mostly in the competitive sense. They never seemed super sorry that the competitive community for it was dwindling or anything of that sort. It was kinda just “well uhhh we’re going to keep the pro tour going for SFIV and you guys keep playing Marvel ok?” Whereas with SFV Capcom is in regular contact with social media and the game itself to add things for the future. They’re not just waiting to do a few patches, one 2013 DLC dump and then running away from the game because they pretty much could.

From what I heard SFxT actually sold pretty decently, it was just the huge drama around the DLC and the combination of competitive players that caused Capcom to just say fuck it we’re done supporting it. SFV’s situation isn’t good, but I don’t think it’s bad enough to get the BBB on them again because the word will get out that the rest of the content is coming free of charge pretty soon. I wouldn’t be surprised if they get places like IGN to get the word out.

With SFV Capcom pretty much has free advertisement with the near 4,000 people going to Evo and the Capcom Cup events to bank off of.

That’s mainly because they could salvage much of it and sell it back to the consumer as an update to SF4.

In a competitive sense? Aren’t we stating earlier in the thread that the competitive scene is what works to keep it alive by virtue of the hardcore fans? How could Capcom even have an effect on that? If people want to play the game…they play the game. SFIII didn’t see…uh…any post-release support…but the community kept it alive.

Isn’t it more likely that SFxT was riddled with MASSIVE amounts of problems that, in many ways, crippled it as a competitive piece of work because of stupid decisions on Capcom’s part that seemed to be interested in maximizing profits entirely at the expense of all of its fans both hardcore and casual? Because…THAT was what the “huge drama” was about in addition to the whole DLC debacle.

Yeah. Street Fighter 3 New Generation came out in 1996. I remember being about 10 years old in 5th grade seeing it at Kings Dominion. Thought it was pretty cool and played a couple games with another guy literally twice my size. Back then Alpha 2 had just released in the arcades at best.

Alpha 3 didn’t hit arcades till 98. About the same year that 3rd Strike hit arcades.

I think the answer is simpler. Tekken fans don’t care about SF games and SF fans didn’t want or need a THIRD game starring ryu and chun at the same time one the same consoles.

That game was a mistake that implied capcom didn’t understand what made mvc3 popular. It was never going to succeed, regardless of balance or monetization schemes. It was just a dumb product mashing together two things that went together like ice cream and ranch dressing.

The best thing for Capcom to do is stick to the plan. Changing it now won’t do anything. Game’s reputation will be change as long as all the promised content arrives on schedule.
