Street Fighter V Lounge "We on South Central crack addict status"

IF Akuma got added into sf5, I’d want him to resemble his 3S incarnation with SA1 and specials (but nerf the recovery frames of hk tatsu).

I think it would be a cool idea if he couldn’t use ex bar either and his instinct meter only allowed him to use his other 2 supers (outside of the normal SA1) - raging demon and kkz - once filled instead of a trait stance. Akuma in sf5 having the lowest stun/health and no ex/instinct mode would probably be enough of a “nerf” to compensate for his strengths if he ends up being a highly ranked character imo.

I’m a bit biased though since I main Akuma in 3S.

I second this

I want Akuma to resemble 3S incarnation as well too

Maybe in his V-Trigger mode his attacks become more faster and gets some new properties like 2 Zanku Hadoukens instead of one and some buffs on his specials ? and his shoryus and tatsus are covered in Dark Purple Flames ?

That was the really great thing about 3S to me; the differences in characters mechanics. Akuma not having ex and having kkz/demon, Oros double jump/EX supers, and the good ol’ USEFUL taunts.

It really made you feel like your character was unique and id lovee it if the incorporated more stuff like that in SF5

But PC will always be next and future-gen :<

Who wouldn’t? I mean uf ANYBODY switched bodies with ANYBODY the goods are most likely getting examined let’s face it

I find it highly unlikely Capcom will change engines at this point, they appear pretty committed to UE insofar.

My understanding is that UE has several licensing models, one of which is based upon the traditional one-time fee (which given the game’s dev-time, suggests Capcom opted for this a while back). The free to use scheme is perhaps geared mostly towards smaller studios who wish to just focus on in-game mechanics and content rather than dedicating a team to fleshing out a graphics engine (and all the bolt-on essentials typically required of most games) from scratch. A 5% cut of all sales is attached to the free version, which is how Epic recoups their investment in the engine’s development time.

While I’ve never been a huge fan of the Unreal engine, I must admit UE4 actually has some very cool features - especially for those who wish to get something up and running quickly. Their scripting system is also extremely powerful and has a whole swathe of built in manipulators for almost any aspect of the engine, including game logic and their included AI (which can be applied to almost anything imaginable). I’m very curious to see what aspects Capcom adopts, though obviously a big chunk simply won’t be used by a fighting game. Still, plenty of goodies are at their disposal should they decide to get adventurous.

I’m still genuinely curious to see how Capcom handles the network stack. Going by comments they have made so far, it sounds like they are cobbling together their own custom solution. How this pans out is anyone’s guess though it’s definitely ripe for speculation and all eyes are going to be on them when the game (or beta) drops. A solid netplay experience is going to be a huge driver for the success they are gunning for with SF5.

If SF5’s netcode is unplayable or anything close to the steam version (post GFWL transfer), it will have been the biggest disappointment in fighting games in years. But, if the netcode is good, then damn, that might be a cross play dream, a nice bouncy cloud of goodness.

Netcode thread is that way —? Net code discussion. Rollback confirmed!

Truly my only complaint with the models in this updated version of SF5 is perfectly captured in this link.
Chun Li’s face goes from looking mature and tough to having a pouty chubby chipmunk face.

Chun technically just turned 47; lets not make her look pre-teen to teen, shoot for early 30s at least.

Well chun is only 47 if they are going by real time since SF2 right? We dunno when SF5 takes place yet. Plus they dropped the born date years in later games (I kind of miss them, helped create a sense of reality and era to the games). Sadly I’m fairly certain Capcom has decided to not age their characters anymore. I’ve discussed this before extensively, it disappoints me how safe they’ve played it with classic character designs sometimes. SFAlpha gave SEVERAL characters whole new costumes / outfits (including chun). SF3 gave Akuma a minor touch up by giving him gray streaks in his hair to show he is aged a little. I don’t think we’ll see any sort of significant deviation from the original character designs for anyone that isn’t storyline related change like Nash’s return. Sakura/Karin will probably still be in their schoolgirl outfits. Cody will likely be in his prison uniform (or MAYBE a return to his Final Fight outfit). Blanka would always be in his brown shorts and ankle chains. Sagat in his boxing shorts, eyepatch, and bandaged hands.

You’ll see alt costumes but never a main design change, much less showing a character has AGED. Sakura is stuck forever a teenager, Chun never will get a single wrinkle or crows feet or anything like that. Ryu never will have scars or a beard or anything.

It’s a shame, I’d love to see that. Maybe an alt costume series where they imagine characters 10 years in the future of whenever the game takes place. That’d be a cool theme for a costume pack.

Truly, my only complaint is that people are linking to EventHubs without first running it through DoNotLink.

The lightning in the first Chun Li image is so much better than the second.

Second one works better for a game though since the character pops out more compared to the background.

First one looks kind of better for like the dark gritty look but blends characters too much into the scene for game play purposes. They probably could have found a way to make the characters pop out a bit more without changing the art style to be more colorful / brighter if they had chosen to but they took a different route.

There are ways they could do that and still keep the better lightning.

The colors on the 2nd image are just so off. The color of the skin just sticks out as being wrong.

But most of the population will think it looks correct because they are so used to over saturated LCD displays that are set way too bright and are wrongly calibrated.

I didn’t exactly say that it looked better now did it.

All I did was point out why they probably did and why, if these were the two choices we had, I’d go for the second one.

I’d agree with the design standpoint, that there needs to be a distinction between points of interest and the background, but this shit was nowhere near as crazy as, for example, Killer Instinct’s level of “what the sparkling fuck is going on”. Not to mention, there are surely less brutal, less cannibalizing ways to do so than this.

I believe the point of the “current” look, was to dial back hard to SF4 aesthetics and check for response. Exaggerating the difference, so to say, further than the devs themselves would want. Just to see how many customers would pay for one or the other. And then decide on the appropriate mold between the two.

The lighting quality/realism, texture quality, reflections and other effects gone and details removed, worry me as well. That’s not solely an artistic decision. Was it all too taxing on harware, after putting more actors into the scene, I wonder? That’d be seriously disappointing…

Personal rant; Chun looks really silly in her face right now. There’s a difference between being artsy and totally wrecking a face like that. It looks like a donut or something now

Perhaps Chun Li is storing food in her cheeks like a chipmunk? It does look ridiculous.

Picture one looks like a badass, picture two looks like a weak little girl.

Larthy - exactly put down the donut Chun, lol
seriously though Poison looks beautiful in your avatar and Capcom has made pretty gals in other games, why they fail so much in Street Fighter? haha

I’ll take option 1 or 2. Either way I win in the end.
